I have the rose coloured version on the way. I have a New Moon 3 which is too short to write with unposted but the cap will not stay posted either, so I was wary about this model until I saw it was larger. Thanks Chris!

Thanks for this, Chris. I have exactly the same model and it was my first bent nib at 0.6 and I love it along with everything else about the pen. Teamed it up with Diamine Lavender and Clairefontaine 90gsm. Yes, the unscrewing of the cap is excessive but not a dealbreaker for me. No nice box, just plastic condom, bubble wrap and Jiffy bag! Three week wait from China to U.K.

I've been looking forward to this review ever since I got mine back in March :D Thank you, Chris. I'm really glad you like the pen. I feel like it'd be even better with a #6 nib, but as you said, the EF bent is just pure joy to use.

A very colourful, good quality pen though I think all those turns to get the cap off would send me round the twist. I picked up my first Delike pen in a nice square blue tin. Pen has an antique finish.

I love La Reine Mauve, but then I love purple inks. I have like six purple inks from various makers. Even though it is 3 times more than other Noodler's ink, due to the 1oz vs. 3oz bottle size, it is worth it, as most purple inks are not permanent. I have it in my PenBBS 456 and it works fine.

Certainly a nice-looking pen, presented in an entertaining way. I wonder if the inside of the cap has a ledge to seal against the section? I couldn’t see any in the ” LED-X-ray”.I hate it when my pens dry out over night because of an ineffective cap, so the answer might be a deal- breaker for me.
@chrisrap524 жыл бұрын
I have not had any drying out issues with the New Moon pens. Cap is sealed & the many threads seal that end. One advantage to that. Thanks for watching.
@Johan-vk5yd4 жыл бұрын
chrisrap52 I have a couple of chinese pens which caps unscrew with too many turns. They also happen to be without inner caps,or the like. Maybe the excessive threading is an effort to compensate for the lack of other means of sealing off the nib? Who knows.

Good review. I own this pen and love it so much (especially the nib) that I just bought the enameled metal version in a couple of different colours. I don't know why more pen companies don't offer this type of nib. Most fudes are too broad but this one has just enough line variation without making it impossible to write legibly.

Moon Man 2 is my favorite of the three (1st version doesn't have metal rings while 3rd has full metal grip section). It also has most finish/color options. I bought "Dark Rose" one and it does look amazing. After watching your video i peeked inside the cap and mine looks very neat, no glue blob or messy finish. At 17 euro, that i paid for it, it still isn't terribly expensive pen, but one would be forgiven for expecting more consistency than in the 1-5 euro price range.
@chrisrap524 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! These pens have variations & have been made for many years. My V3 was in my pens that broke video. Glad you enjoy the "Dark Rose".
@martinlebl6314 жыл бұрын
@@chrisrap52 I remember that video. One reason I never bought one of these, and that glob, while a solution to the problem, does not inspire confidence. Plastic liner insert of some sort is much better and elegant solution.
@chrisrap524 жыл бұрын
I don't know how this pen design/build ended up as it did. Many pens have some significant flaws. In my experience that maybe due to cost limitations, an inner cap may be a few pennies but that is significant in these low cost items. An executive or marketing director doesn't like inner caps. Or they didn't think of it. Rush to bring a product to market. We can only speculate.
@martinlebl6314 жыл бұрын
@@chrisrap52 I mean the changes between versions were likely costlier than that. However, as you point out we can just wonder and speculate.

@@chrisrap52 Jinhao 599 and 992 are a testament to that - they both cost a few euro and have cap liner. Very effective ones at that. I bought one 599 solely as a cap liner donor for Lanbitou 3059 which proved to be cheap and straightforward solution to it's nib drying problem.
@semivintage46894 жыл бұрын
A glob of glue isn't the most elegant solution but if it works and it's out of sight it counts for something. Can see how it'll turn some people off though.
@martinlebl6314 жыл бұрын
Globs of glue should never be visible in a product. Well engineered it shouldn't exist at all, but at least don't have it visible.

lots of turns to take caps off seems to be getting more common. just got a jinhao centennial and its like 4 turns. its not a huge deal but it means it will never leave the house

There have always been pens with a fine single cap thread that take a lot of turns. It is a secure solution.

I have this exact pen (I have nicknamed it as cracked green forest 🙂) and the blue one of the same series, as well. I think the pen’s shape and design make a few blatant nods to the Sailor Pro Gear. Which is a good thing. This New Moon pen is really quite pretty to look at - and fun to write with. I have an F ‘bent’ nib in both of my New Moons. The nib is really nice and is the closest thing I have to a wet, wide quasi-medium nib from a Chinese pen. Though sometimes, the ink seems to come out a little thick and is prone to spreading even on good paper. Mostly it’s just great. A #6 nib would be entirely apt and much nicer on the pen. The crazy four full turns to unscrew cap is definitely irritating, and I’ve gotten used to the somewhat small sized feel in the hand when writing. I have it inked with Monteverde Olivine. The blue one with Diamine Blue Velvet. Nice pen, great value on price and dependable, enjoyable writer. Glad I bought two. The rose one is very lacklustre. This review was anything but..
