Why are so many of us Habeshas and Somalis born in DIASPORA so confused people? This whole "Are we black?" thing does not make any sense because what the fuck is BLACK? When will we stop to use the terms of foreigners to describe ourselves? Identifying yourself as black means seeing yourself through the eyes of non-africans! African American people are excluded in this case, because they lost their specific roots so they had to identify with their skin colour. 1. We are part of the African family. Africans are the most diverse people on the planet. 2. There are different types of Africans like Khoi San, Nilotic, Bantu, Aethiopids etc. etc. 3. Horners like Ethiopian and Somalis are a distinct ancient african race from which obviously all caucasoid populations descent from NOT the other way around! Ethiopian feautures are not europid but ETHIOPIAN and of course AFRICAN because AFRICANS come out in ALL types of facial characteristics we know of! Viva Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and the whole Horn of Africa! Viva all regions, nations, cultures and civilisations which make up the great continent of AFRICA. Diversity is what makes us great!

Aman Andom - Its because that question was never something of existence to Somalis and Ethiopians. Our ancestors never called themselves Maadow, the idea of race in and of itself dates back to European Classical Antiquity, it has no origin in Africa, Africans never came up with race, thats why the idea of "black" was foreign to many Nations of people in Africa. Especially Somalis and Ethiopians, our identity was never based on race, our identity has always been in context to our Ethnic Groups or our tribes. The idea of Race, did truly come with the European. Its only the Somali and Ethiopian diaspora in the west that are taking up calling themselves black. And this whole "black identity" thing is rather recent in our peoples history. I agree with everything you said.

I’ve literally heard Africans refer to the sled v as black because of the belief that black people were born from the ether, so it’s definitely not a “looking at yourself through other’s eyes” kind of thing to refer to yourself as black.

I'm Lebanese and Ethiopians are our cousins!! Egyptians, Somalis, Sudanese, Berbers, Ethiopians, Eritreans etc. are all brown not "black"...the actress that played Florida Evans (Esther Rolle) in the American sitcom 'Good Times' is/was 'black'...Jack Johnson the first African American heavyweight boxing champion was 'black'...you're part of the Semitic family group like Arabs, Jews/Hebrews, Chaldeans, Arameans, Assyrians etc. We (Arabs, Jews etc.) simply settled in SW Asia and you guys (Ethiopians, Eritreans etc.) settled in NE Africa...hence you're 2 - 3 shades darker than us...only difference...same facial features, same culture, tradition, worldview, dress etc...similar language, music, family values, religious upbringing etc.

True. But most black Americans look closely related to West Africans (regardless of skin color) Hair/Facial features. This is just not true with many Ethiopians who have Akaline features and curly/straight hair.
@qolspony
@qolspony 4 жыл бұрын
@ኄኖክ ኃይሉ There is more to being an Ethiopian than being a Black besides hair. The nose on a black American tend to be broad regardless of color. That's because we trace our ancestry to mostly West African 62 -85 percent. Than there is the body, which tend to be be broad and very muscular. Our lips tend to be fuller (although this area varies widely). Than our hair line issue and our mouth. This very very different for people who live in Ethiopia and Somali or area surrounding it. So there are real difference. But these are minor compare to culture. Ethiopians have one of the oldest culture in the world. This isn't the case with Black Americans who have a very new culture that started around 5 hundred years ago. As for food. Black Americans tend to eat overly cooked foods. So we will never even considered eating raw anything, especially anything dealing with an Animal. We are still a conquered people, while Ethiopians never been conquered. We are one of the least travel people in the entire world by population. This is just not so with Africans, Europeans, Asians or Latinos. We don't have problems with Ethiopians as well as anyone else. We are an inclusive people. We accept everyone, as long as they don't treat us badly. But when others treat us badly, we don't forget what they do to us. But we will not hurt them like white people hurt them. We have our problems in America, but we rather deal with it, than to run from it. We have been through a lot as a people. And we have contribute a lot to the world with various inventions that people take advantage of today. We are a strong people. Otherwise, we would not have survived the most powerful empire that ever exist. Thanks for your response.

@@sacatracreoleoflouisiana3004 I have no problem with your comment as you are Creole from Louisiana. Creoles have existed longer than Black Americans, because they were under the French empire before the British than American took over this region. As Blacks Americans were incorporated into this region through the importation of American slavery, Creoles were incorporated into the Black American culture. However, many maintain their culture and language to this very day. Also, Creoles tend to be more mixed than traditional Black Americans, as the French were not as divided about race mixing in the regions they occupied.

Since social media discovered the Horn Africans are classed in the 'Caucasian Race' it has been a never ending trend to keep talking about this topic! But no one is questioning why the Dark Asians are not referred to as Blacks? Face it people, stop your obsession with who chooses to identify as what or whatever box they are put in, because it doesn't change your life. So leave the Dark Asians and the Horn Africans alone! 🇸🇴🇪🇹🇪🇷🇩🇯 Lately Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea are being attacked by some black people (on Twitter and other social media platforms) like the link below, calling them not Africans. And that's not even the half of it, the guy really swears at the Horn African countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea. I've never seen someone that hates the Horn Africans like this guy. He dedicates 1 hour of his life to swearing at the Horn, the shocking part is the venom he is spitting‼ m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3zVe56siJmEaNU 🇪🇹🇪🇷🇩🇯🇸🇴 Yes Horn Africans have Anjera food in common and sometimes their beauty is mistaken for each other, but that's no reason to hate. And the reason they keep saying Horn Africans are mixed is number 1 out of jealousy and number 2 because all the powerful countries are classed as Caucasians. And Caucasian became White due to some American old man, that's why Caucasian is synonymous with White. I'm not making this stuff up, click the link below: The Caucasian race (also Caucasoid[1] or Europid)[2] is a grouping of human beings historically regarded as a biological taxon, which, depending on which of the historical race classifications is used, has usually included ancient and modern populations from Europe, Western Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_race Look black is not a skin colour, it's a derogatory term. And that's why the Horn doesn't claim it. It has a different meaning to the Horn Africans. Plus the World doesn't see the Horn as black. Nor do they see the Dark Asians or North Africans as black. Little children can see the word black is bad. So why can't you see what a 5 year old can see. If black is good, why are the kids damaged from a young age? You don't understand the power of this word 'black' and its link to negativity. You remember the doll test video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzThqx4Z92aiq8 When this girl is crying believing she is ugly, you should ask yourself why is society ignoring the ramifications of slavery and indoctrination of the media? African American child crying was so upsetting to me. I couldn't help but tear up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqG6fIqanrtrjLM This black woman is paying a lot of money to get her skin White. The chemical bath strips her of her beautiful dark skin. It looks like a White person washing mud of their skin. It's so shocking the length this black west African woman is going to, if you can't love and respect yourself. How do you expect other races/ethnicities to respect you? kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5mQiXVuhbCtjZI

And Ethiopia welcomed the refugees from Makkah. The Horn is so intertwined with Islam and the East. Somalia accepting Islam meant they can't do what their next door neighbours can, creating Eunuchs. While Islamic law forbade the emasculation of a man, Ethiopian Christians had no such compunctions; thus, they enslaved and emasculated members of territories to the south and sold the resulting eunuchs to the Ottoman Porte. ... The king of Abyssinia welcomed the Muslim refugees from Makkah into his kingdom. He gave them sanctuary, and they enjoyed peace, security and freedom of worship under his aegis. About a year later, the Muslims in Abyssinia heard rumors that the Quraysh in Makkah had accepted Islam. If it was true then there was no reason for them to live in exile. They were homesick, and they decided to return to Makkah. But when they arrived in Makkah, they found out that not only the rumors they had heard were false, but also that the Quraysh had stepped up the persecution of the Muslims. www.al-islam.org/restatement-history-islam-and-muslims-sayyid-ali-ashgar-razwy/two-migrations-muslims-abyssinia 🇪🇹🐘🇪🇷🐘🇪🇹🐘🇪🇷🐘🇪🇹🐘🇪🇷🐘🇪🇹🐘🇪🇷 Let me tell you about the Year of the Elephant. Abraha al-Ashram an Ethiopian guy. Learn your deen guys. So you can argue from the deen side as well. This guy is so strong that the Arab pagans couldn't do anything that God himself had to interfere and save the Kabah. The above-mentioned episode happened in his youth. Now we come to the most important event of his life which took place just eight years before his death. By then, he was the patriarch of the tribe. The Ethiopian governor of Yemen, Abraha al-Ashram, envied the reverence in which the Ka'bah was held by the Arabs. Being a staunch Christian, he built a big cathedral in Sanaa (the capital of Yemen) and ordered the Arabs to go there for pilgrimage instead. The order was ignored. Not only that; someone entered the cathedral and made it unclean. The wrath of Abraha knew no bounds. In his fury, he decided to avenge it by demolishing and desecrating the Ka'bah itself. He advanced with a large army towards Mecca. There were many elephants in his army; he himself rode a huge elephant. It was an animal which the Arabs had not seen before...read the link. www.al-islam.org/life-muhammad-prophet-sayyid-saeed-akhtar-rizvi/year-elephant Or watch the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZvJZJyDf6yBmrc 🇸🇴🇪🇹🇩🇯🇪🇷 Horn Africans (Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea) are proud people. We have our own history and yes we even clashed each other, and clashed other countries. And by clash, I mean wars; I come with receipts ladies and gentlemen: The Ottoman-Portuguese conflicts of 1538 to 1559 were a series of armed military encounters between the Portuguese Empire, the Kingdom of Hormuz and the Ethiopian Empire against the Ottoman Empire and Adal Sultanate, in the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and in East Africa. This is a period of battles in The Ottoman-Portuguese War. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman-Portuguese_conflicts_(1538-1559) 🇪🇹🇪🇷🇸🇴🇩🇯 Aksumite currency was coinage produced and used within the Kingdom of Aksum (or Axum) centered in present-day Eritrea and Ethiopia. Its mintages were issued and circulated from the reign of King Endubis around AD 270 until it began its decline in the first half of the 7th century. During the succeeding medieval period, Mogadishu currency, minted by the Sultanate of Mogadishu, was the most widely circulated currency in the Horn of Africa. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aksumite_currency

Girls I appreciate you discussing this issue! My take on this is that we are NOT black and I say that because as Eritreans or Ethiopians our people do not identify themselves by colour but rather by ethnicity and nationality. I understand that in America its a 2 dimension world where you are either BLACK or WHITE but in the real world it doesn't work like that. The colour identity system came about by the Europeans (most likely the English) using it as a tactic to divide and rule the world, but when they arrived in Africa, everyone was one type of skin colour so they had to further divide the people by ethnic and cultural lines. The point I'm making is that you are fitting the stereotypes of the colour system by identifying yourself as part of that system. Most "black people" or African Americans of African ancestry have been brainwashed to think that "BLACK" only looks like a certain way so thats why they get confused when they see East African girls like yourself. Please educate and teach them to think and identify by non-colour because thats the only way to escape mentality slavery.

Maybe you should fight for peace in your country because of the current issues. Also, most black Americans have Cameroonian ancestry. The white man ravaged your country to almost nothing. Don’t come for us. Let’s just be peaceful and learn from each other. Also, East Africans are in America, Europe and Canada. So it’s not all about black Americans.

liberia And first chance they get, they marry white people who they also can’t relate to. They have disdain for black Americans but love white Americans. Some are learning how the white man feels about them. In this Trump era, whites are disrespecting black people period. They don’t care about your accent. They gives them more venom to spew at you. If your country is so great, stay there and enjoy your rich culture. Once you step foot in America, no one cares about your culture. It only matters in your country.

People in other parts of Africa like West Africa assume that we aren’t Africans because we look different like having a lighter skin tone, having a curlier hair etc. But one thing we all have to know Is that not all Africans are the same in every aspect that there is. Someone from Japan can’t say “Oh, Philippines are not Asians because they’re darker and they don’t look like us.” because It’s not right. There are variations of black people just like there are variations of Asian or white people.

I agree with you, but every racial group has the “we’re the true (insert race)”. White people did this to the Irish, Italians, Jewish people, and Eastern Europeans. Asians did this to what they call “bottom shelf” Asians like Philipinos and Laos, etc, and then here we have East and West Africans doing it to each other. So yes, racial groups do say “you’re not really (insert race)” to other racial groups within the racial group umbrella.

But now at an older age, I don't mind being 'black', Because I really do love my skin tone ... but out of lack for better word, I call myself black. As an Ethiopian, you have heritage, culture, and a language that dates back thousands of years, so saying you are black is an insult to your ancestors because your skin color doesn't define you.

Where is this coming from (Africa or America). In America, Ethiopians are considered Black. They vary in shades like Black Americans. There is some feature differences with lot of Ethiopians (Somalis), but it depends on the person. Many Ethiopians have Akaline features, so they might be confuse for being mixed or Indian. But because Black Americans cover a large range of Phenotypes (as well as Africa (which is more so)), than it is not really a problem of accepting Ethiopians as Black. The problem seem to be more to do with Ethiopians not Black Americans. We will accept Ethiopians as Black, but oftentimes they said they are not Black. Please note that Ethiopians is an immigrant group like any immigrant in America. They act like a group outside Black Americans. They setup separate enclaves in established community as way to differentiate themselves from Black Americans. They do not acknowledge what Black Americans have done in America and how it has positivity impact immigration policies concerning people of color and Black people. They rather stereotype Black Americans for the purpose of appearing better and different from us. But when they are targeted by Whites, they look to Black Americans for help, because we are the power force in America. This is the same with other Africans, Caribbeans and Hispanics/Latinos.

@@Zelazella1they do owe us something, especially if they are black, African or person of color. We have fought to make America a better place and even given our lives. And upon blacks fighting the establishment past the 1964 civil rights act. Than the following year, they past the immigrants rights bill of 1965. Before this passing, immigrants of color could not enter the country easily. White women owe us for affirmative action that brought white women to the workplace and to vote. Blacks free labor and invention like factories (Washington Carver) is the sole reason america is an economic power. But everybody want to pretend that all these benefits just fell out the sky! Anyway your very life might be the reason you could mumble these words to me. Because across the world, free speech is sanctioned. You really need to get out more. Read some black American history. But if I did go, I would do everything to learn about the people there. There culture, their history, their way of life. The problem with immigrants coming into MY country is that they segregate themselves in these neighborhood enclaves. And limit any contact with world around them. I know this is a survival method, but it is damn rude to close yourselves off from people who made it possible to live a higher standard life. But that's life. I accept it. I think most black Americans accept this. But we do notice it. We don't complain about immigrant issues like whites, because we already know they are not talking about whites. They are talking about all immigrants of color. And since we are a person of color, we don't contribute this hatred. Its not that we don't have issues as well with immigrants, its just that racism is worse than anything we can imagine. But most immigrants are clueless about Americans racial history until it hits them in their face. But keep thinking blacks are the enemy just because you can't take a few minutes of your time to read some black history.

Answer: The term Black is a descriptive term for a person within the color SPECTRUM of the Original Africans and/or someone who has a direct LINEAGE to Africa and the CULTURE. It has historically referred to those who come from the mothercontinent recently or pre-historically. So yes. They are BLACK. Answer: Racially: I know race is a social construct for the most part built by racist white people, but in terms of when you are in the western world. You would most definitely be considered black. The simple way to test this theory, is if you were placed in the 1950s, you would be treated like the stereotypical negative view of a black African. Now you could say, "But a BLaCk perSon is a desCendEnt of weSt Africans, and they aren't from you so therefore you're not black." The thing is, every black African all over the continent of Africa, South, East, and West experienced racism from white people for their appearance/skin color. So under this limiting categorization you would be racially black. The only group of people you could argue are not black are native North Africans. (The only reason they're starting to change the definition of what it means to be black, and what it means to be white is because the purpose of black was supposed to be a negative connotation gated towards Africans in general, but further research on the beauty and diversity of Africa is starting to put Africa in a positive light, so everything/one that's being put in a positive is now being labeled as white.) Ethnically: You have native East African genetics, mixed with the Middle East Identity: If you don't want to define yourself racially, that makes complete sense. I myself don't just like labeling myself as just black. I feel that should be reserved for western people/ideologies. But to deny your blackness because you share similar features from Non African groups that are looked up to in society doesn't make you any more unique, or more or less African. You can find many West Africans and BA that are lightskin, with small/skinny noses, curly hair, etc. I think it's all just a superiority complex and the need to feel better or else you won't stand out. Also not wanting to be associated with stereo typically negative concepts. Whatever the case, I think all Africans need to remember they're African at the end of the day, and nothing more or less than the other. This is just my pov, so I may be wrong. And I am African btw

I agree. Similar stuff happens in the states with black folks claiming they have Native blood because they think it makes them special when the real reason why a lot of us have Native blood is the same reason why a lot of us have white blood, so I personally don’t see why having white or Native blood is anything to be extra proud about. It is my opinion as well that all black people should just accept they are black because regardless of what we think we are, and no matter how hard we try to separate ourselves or others from our blackness, the world decided long ago that we are all black. Of course everyone should be allowed to identify as they see fit, but to deny your blackness is going a bit to far imo.
