Very valuable. My 90 year old mother went to hospital after fracturing her leg. She has delirium after 24 hours in the hospital.

Thank you for this. I keep searching for more ideas on how to help my dad. He has advanced Parkinson’s and hours of delirium most days. In his case risperdal made his hallucinations far worse even at low dose (so we stopped that), and we have found liquid gabapentin to help the most. Also THC free CBD oil. Because as he went into delirium he would start spinning and tossing things (pillows, etc), I bought some small nerf balls to give him to toss instead, making it a sort of game. Throwing the balls seems to help him get out some of the excess energy and it doesn’t require him to use/process language/make decisions. I put on classical music and when he is less agitated we do massage or look at old photos. i wish I could find more ideas from other caregivers in this situation. His delirium is the most difficult aspect of his condition to manage. I can’t help but think it’s like I need to give the part of his brain that’s overtaxed a break - so tossing balls and later looking at photos is ok, while most other activities are not.

Hello just found your post. My mom also has advanced parkinsons and got a sudden case of delirium for almost 3 weeks now. She spent a few days at the hospital without finding anything outside of low vitamin b12 level. She is on serequel at night that helps her sleep but at same time I'm not sure if it's making her delirium worst. Did you ever find out what cause your dad's delirium?
