I make about $23/hr on average with Uber eats... that’s with tips. Without tips it would be closer to $18/hr maybe. It’s quick easy money, and I can start stop whenever I want, so that’s a plus. I drive a hybrid too so that maximizes my profit

I live in the Washington DC suburbs and I make $23 an hour. The majority of my customers tip. If it wasn’t for the tips, I would make about $10 an hour.

Postmates might have the best base pay at a measly 4.00 a order, however, It seems like they pay the worst because they do not prompt people to tip until after they have received their items which is horrible because some people might not even look at it after their order has been received.

I have used these, and I treat it as I would in a restaurant. As a principal I tip 20% in cash. Usually do it again on the app. I work as a cook and receive zero tips. Bit it’s the principle of the matter.

The averages you’re quoting includes actual employees & not the average driver. It includes all of the corporate employees too.

I do Doordash and while it's fine I make nowhere close to $19 an hour. It's more between $11-12.

Same here. In peak hours I can expect ~$15-17/ hour, but it's closer to $8-9/hour when accounting for slow delivery periods where I can have 0 deliveries for 1+ hour(s).

And if you deliver by car you can deduct 20-25% of what you "make" for gas and maintenance.

I door dash'd in my 2006 Civic SI in one location and averaged 25-30 dollars a hour over a week while on vacation. Was super sweet. Back at home, it's 10-11 a hour, maybe, after gas and all the miles on my car. I don't know if it's worth it.

I've been driving for Uber Eats for about a month now. The "boosts" seem to come & go...not sure why, but I work when I want to. 1 other thing: I had to purchase my own thermal bags to keep food hot. Just comparing it to Door Dash etc....not sure if I'll do 2 or more, but time will tell!

Yes, because they all pay on a per order basis. If you have Postmates, Uber eats, and Grubhub all open on your phone, you increase the odds of keeping yourself busy. As soon as you accept a job from any of them, you can close the other two, then re-open them when you are close to finishing the job you are on. Some drivers will actually keep multiple apps open, and accept multiple jobs from multiple apps at the same time. That can be risky, because once you pick up an order, the customer can track you by gps on the app. If they see you driving in the opposite direction from their house because you are doing another delivery first, or picking up another delivery before you deliver their food, they might complain to the company, or give you a low rating. If you get too many complaints, or if your rating drops too low, they will deactivate your account.

Juliannaaa I'd recommend DoorDash here. If you look at the restaurant options for UberEats in Buffalo it's mostly fast food chains. Your chances of getting a big tip on a $100 La Novas order through DoorDash is going to be much higher than someone ordering off the value menu at Burger King. Same as any other company that uses independent contractors, 1099, and the contractor deals with the taxes. If you're creative, you can really reduce your taxable income with legal deductions. Keep track of your mileage and deduct at 59 cents per mile, deduct a portion of your cell phone bill as a business expense, deduct a portion of your rent or mortgage as home office space, etc. A lot of the deductions you can take are expenses you would be paying even if you weren't working for one of these companies (cell phone, rent, etc,).

Often GrubHub makes you wait. They don't oversaturate the area with drivers. I've never heard of DoorDash doing this. I drive for both. DD accepted me immediately and GrubHub made me wait a few weeks until there was an opening. In Denver, I make the most with GrubHub. Great tippers!

It really depends on your market. I'd take a look at the different services to see if one or two of them have a lot more restaurants signed up. In my market DoorDash seemed to get most of the restaurants on the quickest and works well but iit can be completely different in your area. Even though Grubhub paid the best when it was available, it was and continues to be the worst, most stressful app to work for! I hated their damn oppression! They are not just at all. They favor drivers in regions. It's just a matter of time until these apps all come crashing. They take a percentage from drivers, who end up making their gas and barely, if ever for bills. Bussinesses can't survive because they also charge at least 30% against their rates. They are literally working for these apps now and can't make ends meet, unless they are corporations like McDonald's who don't even care if orders get delivered or canceled because they already make millions at the end of the day regardless. There are so many drivers now that it takes a very long time to get an order. So unless dispatch knows and favors you, you're basically out a loss. I've been saying so for the past 2 years. it's just a matter of time until these apps like Grubhub go out of business and their countdown has begun. They can't keep slave driving their "independent contractors" for long. They work without any benefit to cover car maintenance. I love working for these apps because of the stress free freedom it has. I'm glad I found another that works better than these and I'm not tattle telling this time around who it is!
