27:00 that's how a locomotive works. By moving the reverser closer to center, you are relying more on the expansion of the steam for speed than the amount and expansion for power. The valve travels less and cuts off the steam earlier, giving it more time to expand in the cylinder.
@Skirakzalus
@Skirakzalus Ай бұрын
The steam expanding has nothing to do with reaching top speed, you could also achieve that with the reverser fully pulled. Pulling back the reverser helps using up less pressure on every stroke due to the valve closing sooner. Otherwise you'd lose pressure in the steam chest because at high speeds you'd use more steam than the boiler can produce. Pulling back the reverser is more for maintaining top speed than reaching it. The game uses a completely wrong system to achieve a similar outcome so it doesn't have to simulate steam capacity, boiler output rates, or lost capacity per stroke.
@SkorjOlafsen
@SkorjOlafsen Ай бұрын
Also, the max power of the locomotive is limited by the fire. High reg at high speed would consume steam _much_ faster than you can make it. So pulling the bar back doesn't make you go faster, it lets you keep going fast. For top speed for more than just a 1 minute stunt, you need to keep the steam engine as efficient as possible, since you can only make steam so fast.

Grain in boxcars is actually how it was transported, especially during the time period of RRO. You’ll see it with the big boxcars, but they’d board up the doors to stop the grain falling out. It was typical in Canada up until the 1970-80s believe, when they were phased out for grain hoppers

I chuckled at the remark about sanity... There's a video on YT somewhere about some steam cranes on the great lakes unloading a bulk cargo ship carrying iron ore which then leaves to take on grain. In between the ore and grain they sweep the hold with brooms, done. A dusty box car is probably the least of your cleanliness related concerns in that logistics chain :D

You could put a switch to the right (about where you cut down the trees) and curve right, transfer to a bridge running along side of your double track and install switches on the far side of the double (now triple) bridge heading back to the Freight Depot.

your double track setup looks amazing, on the cattle farm i would put a switch after the crossing on the ingoing side and connect to a switch right before the grain delivery point then you can choose wich direction you want to leave before entering.
@Pystro
@Pystro Ай бұрын
Yup, I would also put the crossover track between the 45° crossover and the loading side. Because: Having only a single crossover track is more realistic than having both crossovers. If you're coming from the bottom (with water/grain/straw) you can turn around to go back down without going backwards. And with how much input the farm takes to produce one set of cows, this seems to be the direction that's going to be used more often. You can turn your locomotive around using the crossover track (and possibly the main line) with a train that's too long to fit into the bypass track. I don't know if this save will ever get trains _that_ long, but this option could turn locomotives around with a train stretching all the way from the unloading track around the back loop to the loading track. If you're coming in from the bottom while someone is on the loading side, you can get to the unloading side without even using the bypass track. (Not _really_ an advantage, unless the bypass track is used to store empty cars.) And conversely, if you came in through the loading side you can leave from the unloading side to the bottom. If you're coming in to unload AND load, you _could_ get to the loading side first. But after unloading, you'd have to reverse out onto the main line. So it's still better to reverse from the unloading side to the loading side. If you're coming in from the top while someone is on the unloading side, you'd have to (just as you do now) pull past both entrance tracks on the main line and reverse in through the bottom switches. But then you'd also have to reverse out in order to go back up.

Recommendation to fix the industry loop for the cattle: add a switch on the line coming from the freight house after the 45 cross and before the switch for the passing/holding lane and cut across to the other line and put in a switch. I think this would be the best fix with the least amount of rework.
@Cr4sHOv3rRiD3
@Cr4sHOv3rRiD3 Ай бұрын
38:44 Just put a switch on the exit where is loading spot going left and hook it up behind those double loading lanes and you should go back toward the depot. So, put the switch to the left in front of the locomotive at 37:18 and connect it up before the bridge on another switch after the 45 degree crossing and the switch before a loading and passing lane at 38:17. So look at the 38:09 just slap the switch exiting the grain input and go towards the 45 degree crossing, easy enough for coming back to the depot and also you will have a loop which going towards meet processing plant as well.
@TWEEKL

I would suggest setting up a switch to reconnect before or after the bridge for the return track to get you going back to the freight depot. That way you can keep the setup that you already have in place but a switch off if you want to continue down the main or return after unloading.

Right where you cut the trees at 37:40 you can add a switch to branch out to the right and lead that switchoff straight towards the main where you simply rejoin the main.
@MrMattkid

All you need is a switch after the resource drop for the cattle farm to fix it. It's literally the most gradual of turns to get back on the main towards the freight depot. After that, the only thing you could add is a way to get in from that same part of the line on pickup side, but I don't think you'll actually need that unless you are doing back and forth cattle runs, which I don't see happening considering the resource cost for 1 cow.

Your second engine should be a Shay (or whichever geared loco is cheapest) so you can have it pull a heavy train of loaded watercars up to the wheat farm, where some will be unloaded, and some will be pulled by the Moctezuma in a mixed train to the cattle farm. In the future maybe a porter as a shunter for the cattle farm, where other engines just leave their mixed wagons and just pick an entire prepared train, and the porter breaks up and unloads/loads the wagons, and prepares outbound trains.

Here's how I'd layout the track at the Cattle Farm. Right where your loop starts to swing back towards the input side, I swear I can see a little indent where you could just continue going up and eventually reconnect with the mainline like what you did with the Wheat Farm. The input side itself I'd just branch off the mainline and make it a dead end where you just have room to run around your train, which is what I’m sure they did in real life.

Hey kan I found one of the best ways to make double track and keep it consistent is to use the cross overs run a track out 50 meters place 2 crossovers connected side by side run the second one up to it delete the crossovers repeat I have found that doing this even through curves keeps the spacing pretty consistent so if you want to say come and make changes later such as like putting a Y in or something similar your gonna delete a lot less track in terms of distance

Two things. First a recommendation for the company name: the "Aurora Coast Line". "Aurora" from your temporary name (that I've grown slightly attached to) and a reference to the lovely night effects. Followed by "Coast", because this new map has a lot of hills and you've been coasting down them quite a bit. Finally ending with "Line", because a coastline is often associated with shipping and trade, and of course its a train line. Overall the Aurora Coast Line has a nice ring to it. The second thing for the cattle farm exit, you could keep it as is and then reverse coast down the hill on the main line to the last looping point you had made to realign. I'm not the greatest at track laying but I think it should work. At least it works in my head anyway lol

The backside of the coal tower has been broken with the last "hotfix" and nothing was done about it after that. The track on there has trains fall through it so even if you could line up some track, it's no good until that gets fixed. Also cows are no option right now unless you are okay with grinding out the wheat farm a ton. You need to unlock the cattle car by reaching level 5 first.
@zech7896
@zech7896 Ай бұрын
I suggest you move tracks a bit further away from the platforms, maybe a couple meters away from the ties/sleepers on the track, cause there is going to be a time where you get bigger trains, and they aren't going to fit in those platforms because it was made for your starter trains that are much smaller. Im suggesting this because you said something about having the water just being on the edge of the ties, which is kind of a no-no for the future. Edit : another suggestion; you should follow the golden railroad rule to ensure safe operations while having other people online, which is setting switches back to the normal position before driving away from them, cause another train could go over them switches without knowing that those switches are set to go into an industry track and potentially derail.

Couple recommendations: 1-Water/Fuel sources at the industries to keep your locos topped up on water/fuel unless you want to risk it for the chocolate biscuit and try to make it on what you have (Fumes) 2-try connecting up to the log camp to the sawmill (have the sawmill on a branch line) and from there, you can move some logs to and fro, making some more money. And something else to keep an eye out on is on Monday, there'll be a roundhouse, where you can tuck engines away. Also, if we do get maintenance, be prepared to watch your funds just disappear. That and if you base everything around the Oahu Water Tankers. Each tanker carries six water, meaning if you have 3, that means 18 units water, so use that as a baseline. As for grain in boxcars, the Narrow Gauge had very few to use. The boxcar was more common on the Narrow Gauge.

For how they do double track on curves in real life: they try to avoid it for freight, or often widen the spacing when it has to be done. Freight trains push the rails around in curves, and tight spacing is asking for trouble, Of course if you do want exact spacing, you're bending the rails to where you want them to be as you lay them anyway, and you have to do it with precision to maintain the gauge.

I would fix the coming into the cattle industry while you're fixing up the exit, it'd be easier to drop off your produce like the water and hay then go around to get the cows. If you did it the way you have it now you'd basically be travelling with a full train for a sharp turn before you'd unload. Although I see the terrain isn't exactly in your favor to make that work well without some supper sharp turns or a lot of switches, you may have to bite the bullet and put in a round table to just turn the engine around.

Cordwood is the wood burning locomotives fuel, deliver cordwood to the fuel stops. The game no longer loads/unloads if you're not spotted right. There is no standardized direction of travel on railroads, some have a pass left to left policy, some have right to right, some just have scheduled switching to keep trains from colliding, some have stops at sidings to allow passing. So you design your railroad how you want in that regard and you'll be historically accurate.
