Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Not sure if someone has suggested it, but seeing the 0 stiffness plane go into the sea kind of made me want to see some sort of sea serpent build. Essentially, it would be some kind of sub with the propulsion on the "head" and couplers connecting multiple segments to make the body/tail. Could be fun to battle as well if it functions correctly.

I believe the wings could have had variable stiffness- say, 0.9 for the first coupler, then 0.75, then 0.5 for the last? Since each section is supporting less beyond it.

The floppy tail would work if you reverse the controls. The control surfaces deflect the floppy tail. So trying to pitch down will make the tail flop up, which will then pull the nose up. Trim tabs on real aircraft work like that, and manual reversion on the A-10 warthog flies the whole plane like that! Hell, that's how entire airliners flew for decades until we figured out hydraulic assist.

I have 3 ideas I think could be interesting 1. Horizontal vehical suspension 2. Rigid wings with floppy flaps 3. Crossed beams(I just want to see what happens)

Multiplayer monday idea! Make tanks or gun trucks and use the power coupling on zero stiffness to mount the weapons to the vehicles. Recoil will keep the battles exciting! 😂😂😂

Your experiment with the tail made me think my suggestion for your tail moving on the ornithopter was right. If the tail goes up the plane will tilt forward, if the tail moves down it will cause the plane to rise.

I still think an ornithopter dogfight using the power couplers to build the wings would be pretty crazy, especially with an EMP round.

The duel couplers actually act like a loose hinge, the flex is spread out across the long axis, but it negates lateral flexing. Should revisit this with two thought processes. 1) go til it doesn't work and then backpedal a step then repeat. 2) go for floppy, but control the flop. Also; semi unrelated, but I wonder how funny it would look to lift kit a car but with floppy couplers, or even better drunk turret battles 🤣

A dogfight with these power coup-lanes might be interesting, especially since the hitbox of the power couplings are quite small and the ability for them to be invisible might allow for some interesting scenarios. Oh and as surprise weapons (mostly on ground vehicles, would love to see more of the power coupling in battles)

Okay, color me impressed with Trailmakers' physics! The roll reversing with the wings at 50% stiffness and no seat controls is exactly what should've happened, and it did! Amazing! See, that's how trim tabs work on real airplanes. If you want to trim nose-up, you actually angle the trim tab as if it were going to move the nose _down._ The actual elevator then responds to this by moving to a nose-up orientation, and because it's much bigger and more powerful, the whole plane pitches up.

You should have attached the power couplers to the top two attachments points on the propeller instead of the bottom two. That would cause the propeller to tip up instead of pitching you down giving you a chance to get in the air with lower stiffness

Challenge idea: functional parts and couplers only. must have a coupler between any functional blocks. Then after each round the stiffness is decreases.

I think you'll have more success if the more inner coupling is higher than the outer ones. Also, you could try putting the couplings on the top 2/4 connections on the prop so the forward pull naturally turns it upwards and counteracts the floppy pitch down effect.

You can set reducing stiffness according to distance from the main body instead of a specific value for all of them. Like stiffness 1 for the closest one and then 0.75 and then 0.5… I think that would maybe work and give you the “worst” stiffness overall.

Interestingly I think the reason it went as well as it did with power couplers on only the front wings is because they are the pivot point of this plane, since it has such a good center of mass

An absolutely GROUNDBREAKING suggestion: "Normal" series. Where you just build bunch of normal things, maybe with a bit of variations or experimentations, but the video starts with building a normal something. Car, plane, bike, balloon/airship, rocket/shuttle, hovercraft, ship, speedboat, whatever. And then you can extend it with mutating it a bit in some ways if you find the idea of just making that normal baseline thing a bit boring on its own for the video or in general. I'll be duplicating this on a more recent trailmakers video just in case, so sorry if that's annoying or something )

Let's be honest, Scrap Mechanic isnt about modelling physics exactly. That you can linearly stack any kind of engine and your speed increases? Linearly no less? So the wings being extra floppy is more about how inflated the lift values are (compared to a block’s mass)

Why not do a dog fight but EVERY block is connected with power couplers. It would be like the connection points are just four blocks away from each block, but they are flexible. You could also turn down the stiffness/opacity for extra challenge/fun.
