It’s a 20% tip for a $40 meal after tax, not including alcohol at a restaurant. The vast majority of people just look at the total bill and tip off that, but some people like to back out the tax and alcohol first. Backing out the alcohol might actually be a good idea. If you have two tables side by side with different servers at each table and all else being equal, if each table orders the exact same meal except one table orders a $100 bottle of wine, why should that server get $20 extra simply for opening the bottle of wine?

@S A No tipping 22% is a great tip and not low, haha. I generally tip 15%, up to 20% or so if I'm feeling particularly generous.

This tipping thing is getting out of hand. There should be a provision where consumer can say no to tips. He’s already paid for food, delivery fees, taxes etc.

She might not have lied . Just because the restaurant is only 12 minutes away dosent mean it only took her 12 minutes . I work for doordash and Uber eats and I would get a job where the restaurant is almost 1 hour away from me then the restaurant is another 10 to 20 minutes from the customer . But she's still a bad person for being mad at a decent sized tip .

Man in the UK they don't even need to do that, happens a lot, 2 weeks ago I did a $48 KFC order (with a good tip), as the driver was 3 minutes away I went outside to wait and watched on my phone - they drove past the street (didn't turn in) and they marked the food as delivered quickfast. The app gave me credit within 5 minutes of me reporting it. Just assume the driver smelt all the food and was like, I'm clocking off now, thanks for the meal for my family. (I don't know if they have to pay or if the restaurant has to pay for my credit refund) Long story but yeah, it's super easy for UK drivers to take the food without being fired...
