I have to say around 07:30 when you started the "size comparison" I was excited to see the difference. Then you positioned the two monitors such that they appear on camera to be exactly the same size. Then you used "palm lengths" and "a little bit bigger but not by much" as your measuring units rather than using the tape measure which you used in the previous segment. This was one of the most frustrating things I've ever seen on KZbin.

Hmmm With all due respect the notion that the "base spec" is the same between HDMI 2.0 AND 2.1 is isn't just deceptive, it simply is UNTRUE! The "base spec" for all HDMI series connections is defined by their thruput expressed in gigbits per second. The difference between the "base spec" of HDMI 2.0 AND 2.1 is MASSIVE. 2.0 has just 14.4 Gbps of thruput while the HDMI 2.1 "base spec" is THREE TIMES GREATER with a thruput of 42.6 Gbps resulting in a corresponding massive increase in capabilities and performance. What you are referring to are various implimentations which add features to the HDMI 2.0 spec designated as 2.0a or 2.0b etc. The "base spec' for HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 are not now, nor will they ever be "the same" no matter how many times the corporations, their shills and online advertisers try and claim otherwise. And while LINUS is almost always entertaining and often very informative and incitful , he is definitely in the group of online shills and advertisers. Every TV and every Monitor claiming to have HDMI 2.1 which fails to meet that basic spec that does not inform the consumer up front (AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM) of 42.6 Gbps is of course lying which in days gone bye before America fell victim to corporate fascism would have constituted outright fraud and brought with them massive class action lawsuits.

Thanks @D Dearborn for assisting with the clarification on the HDMI 2.0 vs 2.1. A few years ago I went to do some professional certified training on AV system (Extron) and got my real understanding on the HDMI standards and versions from there. From an Audio Visual stand point HDMI 2.0 is extremely different to 2.1 as @D Dearborn pointed out its all about increasing massive bandwidth in version 2.1. If you look at my past videos when I review laptops (eg. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHmUd3l4Zbtnl5o) you will see I will make extra mention on the HDMI 2.1 as this is very useful for extra large/professional graded monitors and TVs.

Thanks for the video! I bought one a few weeks ago, your video helped my decision, I'm happy with my purchase. I have one question, I find 2k and sometimes Bluray videos don't play full screen, I'm on windows 11. they have a black border, I'm guessing it's a scaling thing for the video, but it's a bit strange. Is there a solution anybody?
@johansmolinski
@johansmolinski 2 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to black side borders? Well, that's a catch here. This display is wider than the media you are viewing. There are basically three ways to handle this. 1) Stretch the picture over the full screen, making oval shapes of circles. 2) Crop the picture by cutting top and/or bottom parts to be able to fit the proportions. 3) Add side borders to be able to fit the full picture without unproportional stretching. Or, bonus, 4) some mix of them all (crop a little, add a little borders, stretch a little). The default is probably option 3), because that is probably the compromise most users want. There might be an option in your media player letting you override the defaults (which I guess will lead you to realise the best option is the way it currently works).
@MrTwangstaable
@MrTwangstaable 2 жыл бұрын
@@johansmolinski I had to evaluate 5k player and power dvd to give me all the options, power dvd won as they have a smart stretch option to get it fullscreen, I need to run some more test cause they may be cropping some. I'm a software dev and those you listed are the std choices with image alignment as well, a few more but that's mostly it in this case. And your right about preferring the way it's being handled atm, pixel perfect, but gotta say it's pretty impressive fullscreen too. But yeah had to go through all the options to have them all ticked, the nature of OCD :) I've been using the monitor or all my dev work, what a blessing 140ppi is compared to the lousy HD 21" screens I was on, not getting any younger. Cheers :)

@MrTwangstaable 2 жыл бұрын
@@johansmolinski btw, there were borders on all sides, which is what threw me off. This was only happening for 4k content. So some programs have that smart scaling do it, but not that smart, I don't mind borders on one axis, but I don't like cropping either. These days things are rather dumbed down, fewer options for the clown show. I cherish those days when stuff came with manuals and options.

@Robert Dishman If it is impossible to read text at its native resolution, and one can make a strong argument that this is its primary task for most users, then it really isn't a "40-inch" monitor, rather something closer to a high resolution 34"-inch making its price point and thus value proposition even more ridiculous...
@john-vl3mm
@john-vl3mm 2 жыл бұрын
There's no objective answer to this question, only what you find comfortable. I use a 28" 4K monitor at 100% and find text perfectly readable at about 62cm away, about arm's length away, though people looking at my screen sometimes seem surprised I don't find it hard to read. This U4021QW model is a lower PPI (138.92 vs 157.35), so I cannot imagine I personally would need to bump up the scaling to make it readable, though your mileage may vary. (For argument's sake, the edges of the ultrawide would be further away than my 28" 4K, true, but I doubt it would outweigh the lower PPI.)

How come display manufacturers don’t put more into the design when it comes to location of all the ports? These are in the worst possible place any port or Jack could ever be. I have Dell displays and they look great but trying to plug them in is a pain in the ass. It would make so much more sense if they filled in that rectangular gap and then rotated all the jacks so they’re facing the back not the bottom.

Hmmm If one had a conspiratorial bent they might easily come to the conclusion that DELL went to considerable lengths and expense to engineer what otherwise would have been a very solid professional display into weapon. I say weapon because if you look closely, this monitor was clearly designed and engineered TO NOT WORK WELL WITH AMD based computers...Unless you are willing to argue that in 2020-22 running a $2500 display at only 30hz constitutes a legitimate implementation. The fact is that DELL and APPLE have always been intel shops and Thunderbolt is of course an Intel creation which the last time I looked has only recently become available on just one or perhaps 2 AMD 550/670 motherboards underlines just how diabolical and cut throat Corporate Business really is. It also highlights how easily the consumer becomes collateral damage. And in this case that damage is considerable considing that particularly in the Home Office environement that DELL claims is the primary target market for the Monitor, AMD Ryzen Computers have been outselling Intel by at least 4 to one over the last 2 years...

Hey @@ddearborn7084, 23.89 Gbps would be required to drive a 5120x2160 display at 60Hz with 10-bit colour, which is within the 25.92 Gbps afforded by DisplayPort 1.4a (1.3 actually). Hope this answers your question. Incidentally, there exist 4K 144Hz monitors which require much more than this to run without chroma subsampling or display stream compression - are the manufacturers of those monitors also part of the secret anti-AMD cabal? >HDMI 2.1 replaced 2.0 years ago as well. @@john-vl3mm my point was that the monitor only supports ONE AMD PC via it's 1 displayport (25.06gbps) at it's native resolution, color depth w/4:4:4: chroma. HDMI 2.0 does not support data compression. Big feature of this big buck monitor is ability to connect 2 PC's but HDMI 2.0 can only run screen at 30hz which no one would likely do for obvious reasons. Therefore, my point stands because it does fully support apple PC's natively. What other monitors may or may not do is irrelevant to this discussion...

@@ddearborn7084 Fair enough - I admit I really didn't understand that to be your point from reading your original comment or first reply, since you didn't mention the KVM feature until your second reply. Though KVM functionality is a common feature among Dell's high-end monitors, and you there's nothing stopping you from using it with your AMD desktop and Thunderbolt-equipped laptop. (I mean, if that's what you were saying all along, why did you respond to me pointing out that AMD GPUs for a couple of generations have had a display output capable of driving the monitor by asking if DP1.4 had sufficient bandwidth, instead of simply pointing out that there was only one such port?)

Sorry @Napoleonic S, the monitors were line up but Unfortunely due to the large size the and prospective of the camera hard to see it. It's about palm length wider the 40inch larger than the 34inch.
