Why is there a black oring in the bottom on the portafilter?

Hi, I have this machine about one year. Last week i bought NPF but my grinder is not good enough (de longhi kg79). I am wondering about Graef cm720 purchase like you. Are you happy with this purchase? Did you do any improvements in grinder? Is grindering level ok to prepare good espresso i NPF? I am wondering about Baratzza Encore also. Maybe you know which one grinder is barter?

Hi there, I am very satisfied with the Graef cm 702. Anyway if you have more budget maybe you can also consider the Graef CM800. Hope it helps. Have a wonderful holiday.

@Hassen Boussoffara Hi there, we haven't added or removed any distance ring to our grinder, we use it as it came. We grind to the finest setting. For a double shot the suggested timing is 25 to 40 seconds per 60ml of espresso. Hope it helps. 😊

The way you stamped it with the tamper, it seemed light and not too heavy/hard. Correct? What could you say is the obvious difference between the bottomless portafilter vs the pressurized?

Hi there, this was our very first video and we were making a trail so the tamping was not strong enough. Check out our other videos where we show how we really tamp (with pressure). Anyways we are still learning about coffee and trying different things ;-) Regarding the pressurized portafilter we have noticed that when we use it, we don’t need to worry much about the grinding of the beans as well as the tamping. Since this type of filter pre infuses the coffee and it kind of does the job for you. The non pressurized one delivers much more flavor, crema and aroma but you need to adjust grinding and tamping. Hope this helps!

@@od1286 We are on the same boat! I am also learning about coffee and everyday, experimenting haha. I just got the machine a few weeks ago (second hand), my first espresso machine so these videos about your journey is really helpful. I don't think I'll be able to relate with the non pressurized ones. It sure does look amazing when the coffee drips but I don't have a burr grinder. I only have the blade grinder at the moment so the grind size / texture is not the best. My next target would be a decent grinder.

Paolo Jimenez you can try a hand grinder as they are good for espresso and single doses (yields 30-40g of grinds)- yet is relatively cheap as compared to electric burr grinders. The only bane is the manual work, but to me, that can be overlooked as it makes an excellent espresso! I just bought the Kinu m47 Phoenix (many reviews saying it’s one of the best) have yet to try it but excited!
