Just found this video. Thanks for the review as I was about to open my 25 yr bottle so tasted along with you. Cheers

Nice review, sir. I've been looking at the various Delord expressions and they always seem like great value.

Hey, Alex! Hope you are doing well. It's hard to beat. Definitely worth exploring. Check out the sister company Marie Duffau as well! Cheers

@@MaxsCognacReview thank you. When I was first getting into Armagnac, I ordered dartigalongue and Marie duffau - Napoleon, XO and hors d'age expressions. Good value all around. But I hated the hard brittle sealing wax. I know there's a method to opening it but it's really not necessary.
@MaxsCognacReview5 жыл бұрын
Alex K Haha I know what you mean. You almost need a chain saw to get through the wax top. It certainly makes more sense for rare bottles that you’d want to save/store for many years as it does do a go job of preserving the cork/spirit. I almost like Marie Duffau Hors D’age better than the 25 Delord. Definitely something to be said about blending different eau de vies. Single malt/age whiskeys are fine but I prefer my brandies blended. The tend to be more well rounded, fuller, and complex. I’m going to keep an eye out for more Armagnacs. Let me know if you have any other recommendations! 🥂

@@MaxsCognacReview ah, but single malt / single age whiskies ARE blended, unless they are single barrel. They often include older casks than the minimum stated age and many barrels go into a batch (each carefully selected). And the "blend" may include different types of casks. This is done for consistency from year to year and to maintain a certain profile.

@@MaxsCognacReview IMHO the soft paraffin would serve the same purpose. Who likes shards in their armagnac, especially the really old, prized one? ;)

Great review and info (even 3yrs later : ) Never heard that 1 second for every year tasting method. Interesting. I bought this bottle for a tasting we're doing this week so this is helpful, thanks and cheers!

Great video! For everyone having a tough time opening these, use a winekey blade all the way around the tiny gap between cork and bottle, and apply significant pressure. Super excited to drink this, and thanks for the video; not nearly enough readily available information about Armagnac. 🔥

I used a serrated bread knife and carefully sawed through the hard wax going all around the neck. I would pause occasionally and pry up on the cap and on the third or fourth try it lifted. It was well worth the effort! This is my first Armagnac and I fear I'm spoiled now for anything less.

@@paulm749 if you can get your hands on their XO it's also excellent. I just grabbed another bottle of this 25yr for Thanksgiving and really excited to share with my family, who as I've just discovered, have never had Armagnac! Insane value for $80 🤯

So glad to see you reviewing the Delord 25. Delord is one of my absolute favorite Armagnac producers, giving insanely high value for the price in both their blended and vintage armagnacs.
@MaxsCognacReview5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Tran! I could not agree more! It is certainly a steal at its price point. It is probably worth stocking up before everybody bourbonizes Armagnac. HaHa! Cheers

@@MaxsCognacReview Preach, brother! I've stopped buying both Bourbon and Scotch/Irish Whisky as I'm sick and tired of the overinflated prices for low-aged low quality spirit that gets pushed out the door as fast as possible in order to make a profit. No such problems with Armagnac and Cognac.
@MaxsCognacReview5 жыл бұрын
@@bronstet I hope Armagnac/Cognac stay that way. Bourbon and Japanese whiskey remind me of Bitcoin at 20k. At some point, production is going to catch up and the bubble will pop! 🥂

@@bronstet I love my scotch but like you I am sick of the ever inflating prices. Been drinking armagnac for years. What makes it special is that it is all produced by family owned cellars that have been doing it the same way for centuries. virtually none is owned by big multi-nationals. By far the best quality spirit for the money. As armagnac ages it shares similarities with sherried scotch.

Thank you! If you can't find the Delord lookout for Marie Duffua (sister brand). Otherwise you can order them on Astorwines.com! They are a great company. I believe shipping is free for your first order. Cheers

Just purchased the Delord 1985; great value compared to what I would normally pay for the equivalent cognac. Max, could you do a video on storing brandy once opened please? I’m always paranoid that I’m not doing it correctly, and have received conflicting information. Keep up the great work!

Hey Hernan, wow I am jealous! I’m sure it is/was a treat! I’m glad you have discovered Armagnac! In years to come these bottlings will become unaffordable. I’m trying to stock up before everybody else figures out what they’ve been missing! Haha. I will make a video on proper storage. I appreciate the recommendation. There’s is a wrap called “parafilm” it can be found on amazon. Use it to wrap the cork area and seal it if your going to store the bottle for extended periods of time. Needless to say cool dark areas for storage are ideal. Anything over 80 degrees is dangerous. Cheers

This is a great brandy. I stumbled on it while on vacation in Paris. Nicolas has plenty of varieties of the house and for the price, it's a great value! If you get a chance, you should also check out Philbert Cognac. It's a small house and if you can find a bottle for around $50-60 dollars its great. I like the distiller reserve grande and the petit champagne.
