That glimpse of the engine bay, I can see the coolant hose is routed around the AC compressor. So not only is it an early VIN ‘81 car (by the hood gas’s flap), but it’s a SUPER early VIN before they re designed the coolant layout. PS, greeting from VIN 4693 👋

Nice! Your comment is exactly why I poked my camera in there as much as I could. I figured owners/enthusiasts would want to see those details.
@MasonFowlkesKenneth Жыл бұрын
@@chrisluckhardt You'd be surprised what little idiosyncrasies owners are able to pickup on. Its how we tell our cars apart 😂 For a hand-built, mass-produced car, its flaws make it so enduring and personable. For example, early cars had a windshield radio antenna embedded in the glass. But users were reporting bad radio reception, so as the factory got word from dealers, they drilled a hole in the front fender and mounted a whiplash antenna. John DeLorean himself reportedly found out when a new batch reached dealers and found the dealers even mounting them in the cars before they would go on sale! John phoned the factory, told them it was fugly, and they decided to source a popup antenna in the rear of the car. Dealers soon got the notice and started using those. 3 whole antenna changes in the same model year of 1981 lol! My car should have the popup antenna, but it has the windshield antenna AND the rear one! TWO radio antennas 😂 So either the dealership that sold my car retro fitted it as a recall later on, or (this is HIGHLY possible) someone at the factory floor just grabbed whatever windshield glass he had on hand and moved along lol. I'm thinking of wiring my radio to the front, I personally love the look of no popup antenna and keeping the lines on the car straight.

And before it moved to Asia Garden it sat at the Big Timber Motel on 5th Avenue for about a decade or so.

Several sources tell me it's been at Asian Garden since 2007. And it appears in Google Street View in the same spot in every image dating back to 2007. The owner died in 2004 so it's possible the car was elsewhere during the gap?

This likely belonged to a serviceman in the Army and it was their "base toy". Problem being DeLoreans are not friendly and do not like to be left sitting for months and years untouched. Also Alaska is the most inhospitable place for a DeLorean you could ever have.

It was owned by a Marine who married a Taiwanese. They relocated to Alaska in the 1970s after his time stationed in Taiwan during the Vietnam War.

All these years and nobody wants to save it? Such a shame that it's going to rust into a pile.

One story I heard is that a few DeLorean enthusiasts tried to contact the owner with no luck. Another story I heard is the owner's asking price is way above market value. All unconfirmed.

@@chrisluckhardt I have seen a lot of old cars with the same issue.... unrealistic asking price. If someone could get it for a reasonable price it would be gone.
