I have owned one for ten years and I have never successfully filled it with petrol without someone approaching me to talk about the car. I am used to driving it and its great in the corners. I see thumbs up all the time and people waving at me and smiling, so yes people just love the car.

Actually, there is a company in Texas that bought all the delorean parts and has enough parts to build brand new cars

I’ve driven one as my daily car for more than 5 years in the same spec as this car- 5-speed with gray interior. Mine’s an 83. I’ve found it comfortable, practical, reliable, and economical. I’m 6’-1” and my head never touches the ceiling. There are a lot of straight-forward updates that make the car safer, a better performer, and more reliable. If you get the Eibach suspension, the height lowers and drives nicely through the canyons.

That's awesome! I would have loved to get the suspension stance right on this car, but I'm sure the next owner can have that satisfaction

@@Garagetopics I'm horribly anti-social so owning a delorean would probably be a nightmare for me. I hear having one makes you feel like a celebrity.... in the worst way. Fools honking at you constantly in traffic, you leave the grocery store and find weird, geeky guys surrounding your vehicle, everyone constantly asking if they can drive it, ride in it, etc.

Great video. I have one also. An 81. I'm the 3rd owner. The first owner has owned it since 81, the second owner bought it in early 1999, but only for half a year and then I bought in 1999 and have owned it since then, only has 12,000 miles and has a BAE Turbo, black interior, 160 MPH speedometer and mine has the gas flap. Love this car! Only paid $15,000 for her back in 1999.

Your Delorean was the 4819th made. The ending of the vin started at 500. Still an early model from the first year.

You should note, there were three hoods - Gas Flap, Grooved, and Smooth. You have the grooved hood, and that's the one most people want (it was the one in BTTF) Nice Find!

DeLoreans were pretty cool back in the day but they really did not have a good reputation as a reliable car. The fact that you got it in pretty much OEM condition and garaged is amazing.
@Garagetopics10 ай бұрын
That's exactly why I bought it! It was in such good shape. It's definitely more of a piece of art than a car, IMO

@@Garagetopics I just saw one of the new Tesla tucks this past week on the road for the first time. It kind of looks like a Delorean.

The reasons DeLorean's can be Unreliable is the idiot owners who do half ass work, jerry rigged fixes and simply not driving them enough. I been around these cars for 35 years, owner of 20 years and been daily driving my car for over 10 years. Still running K-Jet also and YET never broke down once!! Get 30 mpg in 5th gear at 70mph. Been to 126mph easily! I baby and beat the piss out of this car but yet never fails as I dont fear it ever will. Is a DeLorean reliable? Depends on you.

I am determined to acquire a DeLorean DMC-12 before I turn 35. I intend to paint it black and add electroluminescent green decals. Also a trailer hitch, aux port, Flux Capacitor, and maybe also a green Larson Scanner.

In spring 1982 I was looking to buy a new car. My final choices were a 1982 Datsun 280zx, 2 + 2, black with tan leather interior and T tops, or a Delorean. The 280zx was $18,000 and the Delorean was around $24,000. In 1982, the interest rate on cars was 13%. I liked the Delorean, but as he said for buyers the main concern was reliability and repair costs. Also, the monthly payment on the 280zx was $485 per month for 4 years. The Delorean would have been closer to $650 per month. While that may seem cheap now, back then my house payment including insurance and property taxes were around $600 per month. I choose the 280zx and i never regretted it. I had it for 8 years and drove 200,000 miles without major problems (air conditioning breaking was the only problem). It was reliable and routine maintenance was relatively inexpensive. It was only after the Back to the Future movies, that my desire for a Delorean increased. Before then, the Delorean was only an unusual, sporty car, but without the glamour it later got.

Another Note - Those are original fuel lines - replace them right away. It's pretty cheap and easy.

The doors operate off a torsion bar and gas strut for final assist. I own a dmc 12, and have also worked on a bricklin. They door systems are totally different with bricklins being inferior. Getting into a bricklin was annoying as the seats are really deep down in there as well and you really do have to fall into it
