Hi, and thanks for the review. I have yet to be able to look at one of these other than just seeing boxes stacked up at Lowes. Question about the throat plate. Is it thin? Or, could you make your own zero clearance throatplate out of 1/2" plywood? Thanks. Also, a second question. Could you confirm that you can lock the handwheels with a knob once you have the blade height or bevel where you'd like? (I have my father's old Grizzly 1022Z and I cannot lock the blade height. It will drift downwards and it's maddening.) Oh - and if any of you guys do not know --- this identical saw is available from Home Depot bearing the Ridgid name and orange color for $20 less than what Lowes sells them for. The model is R4560. I have not been able to see that Ridgid one on display either.
@RockyRiverWoodworks Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. Yes, the throat plate is probably 1/8" thick metal. You could make one out of 1/2" material. However, you would need to create cutouts or notches for the leveling screw locations. At the spots over these screws, there isn't 1/2" worth of space for you to use that full 1/2" thick piece of material. Other than that, you could probably make 1/2" thick material work. As for the locking wheels...yes. I do that exact thing. Once I get a blade height set (especially for half laps or anything not fully through-cut) I lock it in place so the height stays exactly where I need it. The same applies for the bevel angle. If I need 45-degrees, I need 45-degrees! So I lock the wheel in place and it keeps everything secure and in the exact position/location that I need.

Great review, excellent saw. I've had mine for about three years now and it is the best saw I have ever had to date. It was well worth the money. I started out with an 8 inch Craftsman that was my Dads, and then went to another two Craftsman saws, and they were good, but nothing like this one for sure.

This saw is powered by a direct-drive motor with all the speed and torque necessary. That's a huge advance. Belt drive saws tend to be under motored and ratio'd up to reach cutting speed which reduces torque. No pulley drive means no belt or twist-V belt upgrade. Delta's elimination of the pulley drive eliminates a whole lot of rattling moving parts. The fence has been further refined since this video. Some might recall and may have bought the high-$ Biesemeyer fence system upgrade for an older saw. Delta bough Biesemeyer and incorporated the fence system here. The direct-drive motor and Delta-Biesemeyer fence system are the reason to upgrade to the Delta-Commercial. I'm frankly amazed at the value price. It replaced a Ridgid pulley system saw I had for some years that I added the Biesemeyer fence. At current prices, this saw is net $300 less expensive than the same class competition I shopped.

Nice review of the saw. I've watched many, and you hit on all the high points. Could you talk about some of the things Delta did on the saw that you don't like? I don't like the bevel adjustment red line...i don't think I'm able to get it accurate when my saw is at 90 and 45 (red line can't hit the number). I also don't like the power switch safety. I'd like to see a key that gets removed, like all my other tools, rather than a hole and lock system.
@RockyRiverWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
Brian Sharplin the bevel adjustment red line is a problem. I would agree! I usually just use an angle finder gauge to get it precisely accurate. As for the safety switch, it doesn’t bother me a lot as I’m the only one near my saw.

Thanks for the video. I'm intrigued with this saw and want to know more. One question that occurs to me off the top of my head: why does the front rail extend further to the right than the back rail? I don't see what advantage that design gives you. Thanks again for the insight.
@RockyRiverWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of is because the t shaped part of the fence where the lock is. If I slide the fence all the way to being flush on the front rail, it is also flush on the back rail (almost). This is because of the offset cause by the t shaped brace.

I have an older model delta contractor saw (36-444 i think). It has round bars (front and back) that the fence slides on and they are the same length. When i slide the fence to the extreme right, the t section of the fence sticks out about 2.5 inches out from the bar. I’m always a little concerned that it’ll fall off if i push on it too hard, and being cast metal that wouldn’t be good.
