Well since Dave might actually read these, let me just say as a civilian I think he's a badass and both these interviews have been phenomenal and inspiring. Kudos to you too David for facilitating them. These interviews tell stories better than a movie ever could.

There shouldn't be any reason why enlisted personnel, shouldn't be allowed to tell their military autobiography, so long as it doesn't compromise national security, because let's face it, just about every single military officer, since General George Washington, has told their story, so why not allow the enlisted to do the same, after all, it's highly therapeutic for the average G.I., and it gives a more balanced and complete picture of the wars, conflicts, missions, battles, branches, units, and personnel, that encompasses our military.

I'd love to hear more thinking from these guys as to why the US lost after nearly 2 decades in Afghanistan and if that aligned with the same controllables from Vietnam. While there are a crap-ton of analyses into this from guys who were far from the front-lines, it'd be interesting to hear what tip-of-spear people's thinking on this subject, and if that matches the Vietnam generations assessments in terms of leadership, goal-setting, organization, and politics, etc..
@samchaleau9 ай бұрын
On a more personal note, I can see just how much damage has been done to this man's soul - both as a result of the emotional trauma of divorces, as well as that of losing friends and family (pepper) in combat. I will keep him in my prayers, and ask that others do the same both for him, his brothers, and his family. May the Lord guide them to peace, safety and happiness.

It's hard to win a war when you're not fighting an actual military and politics/government is more concerned with appeasing the world than getting the job done and getting out... Just my opinion.

Both Afghanistan and Iraq were all but over within months. Its the shitty politics and piss poor leadership that is always failing forward that caused the shit shows after that. I personally believe that they didn't want it to be over, military industrial complex and all. Look at how many billions were made
@Kektamusprime8 ай бұрын
@@samchaleau I know within a month of getting to my COP that we were never gonna win, the afghans just didnt have it in them and didnt care, they would have also been fighting a pretty decent level insurgency similar to what the USA fought in Iraq but with out all the medical facilities and support etc but yea main thin was the afghans themselves. As to losing on the ground, I never felt like we lost an encounter and we didnt have all the support that USA soldiers had, we smoked everyone that tried to fight us and it was even close, most guys we lost was from an ANA attack on us at a different FOB
@samchaleau8 ай бұрын
@@Kektamusprime Would have to agree with your assessment. Everyone I spoke to who came back said much the same. They all were also supremely pissed at the lack of strategic direction, media bullshittery, and the ongoing political games back home. I simply wonder about the decision process that turned a win into a withdrawal, and how Army can avoid these command/intangible failures next time something kicks off that requires a fight against insurgents. No war or conflict is unwinnable, which begs the question: What was required to turn attritional insurgency into a destroyed insurgency? How do we ensure that our will to fight remains high despite sensationalized media footage of suffering bankrupting the political will back home? How do we keep our resolve while destroying theirs? What would force a cultural shift for a nation like Afghanistan to become a peaceful pre-fundamentalist society like they were in the 50's -60's?

I was sad when he said no one cares. I don't think that's true. Civilians thanked me for my service all the time, which I thought was odd because I just worked on radios and computers. Civilians don't know what military life is like (and they shouldn't), but I think they understand soldiers make great sacrifices to keep them safe.

The leadership issues in country in 03, that i saw made me not reenlist during our stop loss fiasco. Out processed on the exoress flight to 1st civ div. 8 months later, i realized i was not ever going to be that normal guy back at home and went back in. Dumb as hell to have ever gotten out because i lost my time in grade and put me out if zone for staff all over again because of it. And lost any reenlistment bonus, in country that other dudes were getting. Not that i cared about money back then, i was single at the time and the koolaid started tasting bad after seeing how it was mixed by higjer ups and what some guys were putting into it. I was crossed with myself to have came home while others were still there dealing with it, and I chose to be home. I had finished my time, plus extra thanks to our Commander in chief with stop loss, but it didnt sit well with me for months knowing I was home, different from the crowd, and also no purpose, no brother , no org to belong to. I chose the lesser evil and went back in. My goal going back in, after getting there was to fight bad leadership. After going back in it took four more years to pin on a rocker, but my guys never got screwed or f'd with. And O's and douche SNCO knew not to be a prick and screw with them. Or theyd get whats coming to them and we would stick together.

I’ve noticed Delta veterans WAIT a long time after leaving the unit before going public. The men involved in recovering bodies were magnificently honourable. Regarding talking about service. It’s annoying when operator calls someone out when he wasn’t there. There used to be mutually agreed rules. That’s all.

Love the content and this guy is an American badass and hero however at this point, they need to stop giving Development Guys a tough time about being on social media because I’ve seen more CAG guys in the past couple years enter KZbin than I’ve seen Development Guys and I would argue there is just as many as them and Development Guys on KZbin now. You can’t lump Tier 2 SEAL’s into that category either, I’m just talking Tier 1 vs Tier 1 because if you want to lump all SEAL’s into that then we have to lump Rangers and Green Berets and Airborne into that as well.

You’ve seen too many movies my man. The chances of going hands on with a shoot target are virtually zero and these guys rarely even have the chance to draw their sidearm in real world situations. There are a lot of JSOC guys that don’t even carry sidearms on target because it’s just extra weight and if your main gun goes down then your team will smoke the problem before you could even think to draw your sidearm. There are only a handful of individuals throughout the entire GWOT that have kills with bladed weapons and most of them are on the white SOF or conventional side.

One of the best interviews ever heard. Dave you have all the qualities that us Christian’s need to be as Christs followers. Warrior experience wisdom hard times broken man and when you realize what Jesus has in store for your path. Than you use that and spread the knowledge to other Christians specifically cause we in a biblical time and they want to wipe out Christianity. I’m going to be following your podcast christology. Godbless both of you men.
