Love this guy. Strikes me as very intelligent and understated. He looks more athletic than most, but if you saw him on the street you wouldn't have a clue he's one of the most elite warriors in history. He seems very capable and down to earth. None of that is surprising, but notice how the most humble people have the least reason to be. Being understated and straight up is hard to do, but you'll win more respect than by exaggerating.

There's a philosophy that resolves around "the most dangerous guy in the room is usually the most unassuming". Kinda ties in with the gray man concept. Most people will look at the brash, aggressive 6'3" guy with tats and an attitude as a threat and will operate accordingly, but they won't look twice at the quiet, calm, slightly balding guy in his 40s wearing jeans, a pole shirt and New Balance shoes... they also won't notice him watching every thing in the room, observing behavior and constantly scanning.

This title was a little misleading. It sounds like he’s saying that the bombs from air support is what wiped them out. Also a hopefully constructive critique…. Play it cooler. It’s such a stark contrast on what you hear from the a civilian vs a war vet when they are interviewing a tier 1 operator and he tells a battle story. Your response was so stereotypical for a civilian. No offense but it sounds cringe when people say anything like woah cool that’s incredible or wow unbelievable etc. I’m sure he’s thinking like not really that incredible because A) we got shot up B) the huge advantage of air support and C) of course we kept going forward after that. What choice did we have and it’s literally our job.
@chrisdaniel27594 ай бұрын
This is a dumb unconstructive comment. Absolutely do not ever ‘play it cooler.’ That is the most cringeworthy thing ever written in a comment section. It is entirely cool to geek out on a Delta guy talking early GWOT engagements.

If you haven’t read it, Colonel Charlie Beckwith’s book on Delta Force is wonderful. Not always the easiest read (he and the “co-author” are not ones for spinning tales), but provides some awesome insight into the formation of Delta. Much respect to SAS - the Brits were the foundation for the most elite unit in any military right now. SAS bros are legit. No question about it.

Saddams Fedayeen were not regular Iraqi soldiers moron. They had the authority and the autonomy to operate outside the command and control of the conventional Iraqi Army, rather they reported directly to Saddam's Presidential Palace. These were the hunter/killer units that were tasked with offensive missions and were far more committed and loyal to the regime. Even after the fall and capture of Saddam, many of the surviving Fedayeen joined the Sunni insurgencies which would later become AQI.
