Deltarune Chapter 3 Predictions

Deltarune Chapter 3 is going to be released sometime this year or next year. So here are my Predictions for the Chapter.

I tried to not make this Predictions video a Wishlist but moreso educated guesses based on the information shared with us through Newsletters and Status Updates from Toby Fox. Tried not to lean into stuff like "oh my god guys Gaster and Sans will be important" but rather content like "hey it'll probably feature these characters doing these things" kind of deal. Undertale's 10 year anniversary is next year so we're very close to getting something I can feel it. Who knows but I probably should make this video before the Chapter actually gets released and all this becomes outdated lol

To be fair, it has been said that chapter 3 is Pretty much complete at this point. Only minor bug fixes and localization work is being done. So this year the focus is on Chapter 4. Which is pretty pog.

I think Alphys could be in Chapter 3 dark world so that would make sense if she is. Mainly because the school has already been done as a dark world so there is no place Alphys has links to, Alphys and Toriel are friends so she could visit about Kris or school etc, if Undyne is also in it then interactions between them would happen and Alphys has strong known links to TV shows with Mew Mew Kissy cutie which will definitely appear. Obviously the theory is based on very loose evidence but what does everyone think about it?

Lanino and Elnina is based on ''El Niño'' and ''La Niña'' which mean phases in the eastern Pacific ocean's temperature. An El Niño would mean that it becomes significantly warmer and increases shear in the Atlantic. A la niña is typically the opposite. Damn Toby.

6:13 Actually, while their personality do not reflect it, their actions do : In chess, the King is the weakest/2nd weakest piece, being able to move ever so slightly every turn ; The queen on the other hand is the most powerfull piece, being able to move everywhere on the board. Now compare that to King and Queen's behavior : King stays at his castle for the entirety of chapter 1, and "moves" only once he is fighting against us ; Queen however follows us throught the entire chapter she's in, making as many apparitions as Berdly for example. If we want to go further, when King is defeated, his game is over, he is imprisoned and his movements are restricted ; Queen joins our side thanks to Noelle, her *pawn*, similarly to chess where a pawn can become queen if it reaches the other hand of the board (and yes, a pawn can also become a rook, bishop, or KNIGHT). That's why I personaly believe that Tena will act as the Rook. The central piece of this dark world, or the central Tower. Anyway, those are good predictions ! The only thing I'd really disagree with is the Pawn being this early on (I and many other believe that the Pawn will be represented by the vessel)

@@shrimpaerospace No, not necessarily : the piece identity is most likely figurative rather than litteral. The easiest example is the Knight. The chess Piece is represented by an Horse, but the piece itself is called knight. For the Rook, it is represented as a Tower in chess, and if chap 3 is a dark world focused on TV shows, Tena being the Star of this world, The Tower topping it all, would make sense in my opinion.

@@minestar2247This is kind of what bothers me ab chess theory. What are they gonna do after chapter 5? Pawn? There’s already a pawn enemy… Idk, King is far more connected to cards than chess (Card Castle, all the other kings being rulers of different suits like cards, all enemies in Card Castle being related to cards outside of checker guy who gets spawned in, etc.). Personally, I kind of just think ch. 1 was focused on board games, and ch. 2’s Queen naming convention is just a tie into her having a relationship with King (also her name isn’t even really queen it’s Qu35…. etc.). Maybe Roaring Knight is a through line? People can believe what they want to believe and I could just be wrong too. I just don’t super see how chess is supposed to relate to Deltarune’s narrative in any meaningful way. Like great there’s a connection, but why?

But here's the thing. Jevil mentions the queen, and the main antagonist for Chapter 2 is, well, Queen. Spamton mentions Mike. It may just be a coincidence, but we've got one secret boss naming someone who ended up being the main antagonist, and now we've got a second secret boss naming someone.

6:11 King in chess usually stays in one spot for most of the game untill it is in check, same like the deltarune king - we see him in the end of chaper 1's dark world. Queen in chess usually is used/moved a lot because of it's great mobility, and in deltarune - we see the queen a lot of the time, running around doing wacky stuff. We can assume that chapter 3's boss will act like a rook, ch 4's like a bishop and in chapter 5 we will face the roaring knight.

I HEAVILY disagree with your interpretations of Chess Theory, Boss patterns and the info we got from the Spamton Sweepstakes. To start with chess, I think King, Queen and the Knight all represent their chess pieces better than you think. In chess, the black king starts on a black tile while the black queen starts on a white tile. The classroom dark world was already made when we got there, but the computer lab dark world was not. Kings are generally held back until the end game while queens are much more free to move about the board. King is only encountered at the end of his chapter, while Queen is there the whole time. But the Knight is the real interesting one. They are the only piece that is guaranteed to move either from White to Black or Black to White every move. And if that's not a metaphor for opening or closing a fountain, I don't know what is. (Not saying Kris is -the- knight btw, just a knight. Chess has two teams after all). Furthermore, Queen's real name isn't Queen, and if the Knight is a Lightner, their real name probably isn't "Knight". So I don't think Tenna not being named after a chess Piece disqualifies him from representing one. As for what piece he'll represent, I still believe in decreasing point order theory, which goes King -> Queen -> Rook -> Bishop -> Knight. So I think Tenna will represent the Rook. But the pattern that makes me think Tenna will be the main boss is the Reverse Undertale Bosses theory. Basically that the main bosses of each chapter will represent the bosses of Undertale's Neutral route in reverse order, while the extra bosses will represent the Genocide route bosses in reverse order. In chapter 1, main boss was a king and the extra boss was a jester, a type of comedian. Those line up with Asgore and Sans. Chapter 2, Queen is a self-absorbed robot with the letters EX in her serial number, and Spamton NEO... is literally NEO. So chapter 1 -> New Home, chapter 2 -> the Core. Just looking at what Tenna is, he looks like he could represent Mettaton's box form as the 'boss' of Hotland. The extra boss then would represent Muffet in some way as Mettaton's box form is never fought on the Genocide route. This would mean the extra boss would use the Purple SOUL mode against us. The only issue with this theory is that Jevil doesn't use the Blue SOUL mode... but we still have the fight that represents Papyrus still ahead of us. But lastly is the mention of "THAT [Cathode]S CREW" is what clinches is for me. Cathode has to be a reference to CRT TVs. Which would make Tenna someone with authority over others. Which fits better with King and Queen than Jevil or Spamton. TL;DR I think Tenna is gonna be the main boss, not the extra boss. And that he will represent the Rook in some way, even if he's not actually named rook.

jevil isnt supposed to be fckin SANS lmao hes supposed to be connected to the dreemurrs. look at the colours used in his sprite, read the book where toby says toriel's "Heartache" was originally going to be a "jester battle" for deltarune, look at the fact jevil is obsessed with chaos (Asriel uses CHAOS SABER), at his pride and total conviction that he's right and everyone else is wrong (a trait very much displayed by toriel in undertale) etc.

I'm predicting that Chapter 3 will be less linnear because of Toby saying that Chapter 3 is "a pretty strange one" and "not too heavy on the story". After the first short area (like the cliffs in Chapter 1 and the broken field thingy in Chapter 2) you'll end up in a sort of hub world with 2 - 5 places to visit in any order. There might be a member or 2 of the Cathode's Crew at the end of every area as a boss. After you've completed all the challenges, you can finally go to Tenna's evil lair type place.

@@-fireball65- the Giga Queen fight wasn't about a fight among giants, it was more about Punch-Out! boxing and working together with friends to size up to the opponent, Kaiju fight could be done very differently, Like a one-on-one with Susie and the antagonist, letting her live out one of her dreams while Kris rides on her (in a non-sus manner) and gives her battle commands.

Hyper specific (probably wrong) predictions: Main theme: Mending / coping with broken relationships. Kris and Asriel, Toriel and Asgore. Main boss: Mike and Tenna in the same body (Antenna's control TVs.) What better way to further expand the theme of freedom then with two entities fighting over control of one body (parallels Kris' situation.) Secret boss: A new character named Radiostar. If the theme of the secret bosses being discarded remains true, that would make this a perfect fit consider the phrase "TV killed the radio star." Also, I think WarioWare is going to be the main mini-game that comes back later (rapidly switching mini-games pairs perfectly with channel surfing.) his flower shop is also suspiciously closed in chapter 2, can that tie into his appearance somehow? the only issue i see with asgore appearing is that, if you go through the game without exploring anything, he is never introduced to you unlike berdly, noelle and toriel who youre forced to meet beforehand

the valentines letter mentioning AMVs, in the image name, it literally says Alphys, So that letter is definitely from Alphys because all the other letters follow this (except the one that might be Gaster but I believe that one says unknown)

The "Gaster" one probably isn't gaster. Talks far too differently, writes delta rune instead of deltarune, types competely different in Japanese. I'm willing to believe its either a character we have no info on or just the chapter 3 secret boss

One tiny thing i thought needed to be said is that when spamton says "are you one of that cathode's crew?" he phrases it not like its the name of a gang or something, he says it as in "are you part of the crew of that cathode/ the group of people who work with the cathode?" so im pretty sure there isnt gonna be a group of characters directly called "cathode's crew" they might not exist or just have another name, great video though!

While I agree that Deltarune Chess Theory is canon, I don't think the antagonist's name will be *literally* a chess piece's name. King is a king because he's a king card. Queen is a queen, because her computer model spelled the word queen. So, the next chapter's boss don't have to have a name referrencing the role of a chess piece (it'd be lame). And the "pawn" piece does sound like something reserved for Ch7. I think the order of bosses in Deltarune is in order of their values (highest to lowest). Which would mean the next boss would be double boss (since it's the chess piece that has two representants). It would also fit Deltarune, since Ch1 established pattern Secret Boss spoils Main Boss of the next chapter. So, in Ch3 the Secret Boss of Ch2 (Spamton) spoils the Main Boss of Ch3. But he namedrops two characters (Mike and Tenna). Also, the theme of partnership/co-stars etc. is common in entertainment industry. And it would make for a cool change.

King and Q5U4EX7YY2E9N are like the actual chess pieces: King hides behind his people. You only see him at the end of the chapter. Queen is chaotic and unexpected. Just like the Queen Piece can move almost everywhere.

queen's real name is "Q5U4EX7YY2E9N", tenna could be his real name and be referred to as rook, pawn, bishop/prince, duke, baron etc, for the majority of the chapter depending on if chess or noble title theories are correct my bet for the secret boss is the emergency alert system, i think it would just be neat

However, the chance for them to be adjacent or related to pawns is still there given the circumstances so you could very well be right anyway

I've always thought chapter 3 was going to release in 2024, since chapter 2 released. There's a pattern of new deltarune chapter being released every 3 years. Undertale was 2015, chapter 1 wS 2018, and chapter 2 was 2021. I wouldn't be surprised if chapter 3 released in 2024 in the same pattern, especially given how production has sped up compared to chapter 2 (hand cramps, experimenting with engines, forming a team)

Can't say for sure, but I had heard a rumor that chapter 3 was already content complete, but wasn't out yet because chapters 3, 4 and 5 were all supposed to release at once when Deltarune actually releases. I had also heard that chapter 2 was originally not supposed to come out as part of the demo, but Toby Fox released it because it was the height of the pandemic, and he wanted to bring some joy into the darkest part of a lot of people's lives. Would like to be corrected if either of these have been proven to be untrue.

I'm not sure on Chapter 4's Dark World being shorter than usual. Sure we haven't seen a lot of it, but it could just be because Toby wants to keep it's theme a secret. We've seen so precious little of chapter 4 anyway, and when Home Town sections can last probably close to half an hour if you just bum around and talk to people, it's easy to see how you could fill up previews with just that and the Chapter 3 stuff. Also while I'm being a negative nancy, I'm not sure on the chess theory for the chapter bosses either. Or at least I wouldn't stick so rigidly to it as to say the rest of the bosses _have_ to be like King and Queen and calling that a "main theme". Not only do we have a pattern of 2 to base this all off of, but it doesn't even match the chapter count anyway; there's 7 chapters and only 6 unique pieces in chess. What, is it; King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight...Pawn? Major Chapter Boss...Pawn? And then...Angel? Named after the angel chess piece? So yeah, I think if we're destined to abandon our pattern of 2 at some point anyway; then there's no reason we can't see Tenna and their crew as the main threat of the chapter (maybe a mafia/media boss named Aunt Tenna?), with a commercial based Mike joining his old pall Smapton in the secret boss club who represent the discarded and ignored.

Yeah,I highly doubt mike is the secret boss of ch3 , I mean why would toby reveal the name of the secret boss in the prior chapter?Plus I'm honestly believe that Mike has a better chance at being the side antagonist the role of lancer/berdly,the next secret boss will for sure be an original character we don't know about yet.

@@duce.2805Problem there is, you have to remember how Deltarune was written. Chapter 1 was always a demo, so it made sense you'd have to dig into secrets (such as fighting Jevil) just to find a hint towards Queen. We weren't going to meet Queen for years. Chapters 2 through 7 though were written to be a single release; with the script almost complete well before Toby decided to split things up, and we don't know if he changed anything after making that decision. If he didn't majorly change the script to better match the new release plan, then it makes more sense for secret boss side quests to hint more towards upcoming secret boss side quests then towards future main characters when there's not supposed to be this big gap between chapters. It's like; why have all these vague and mystery inspiring mentions of Mike you can only find going off the beaten path for the Spamton quest....if you're guaranteed to meet him in a hour in a Lancer type roll? Especially since there are naturally going to be players of the future full game who skip over secret boss side quests in their first run to later do a second run hunting for these secrets.

Jevil gave a hint for Queen and the roaring, Spamton gave a hint about Mike. If there is a pattern, Mike will likely be the main antagonist. If Mike is the Rook piece, then his name could be Mike Rook, similar to some prank callers coming up with funny names for people to say. Mike Rook being close to My Crook, or a criminal as Spamton calls him.

I think Spamton is on Mike's side in all of this. Sure, that original dialogue in Chapter 2 could be definitive. But as shown with the SPAMTON SWEEPSTAKES event, all things are not what it seems. In the QnA section, someone asked Spamton about what Cathode means. And then Spamton rambles on about Tenna and what he did to him. At the end, he says (paraphrased): "EVERYONE! EVERYONE.. Except... Except Mike." Mike, in this text, is actually hidden; you need to use your keyboard to see the name Mike. How curious.

6:14 They moreso reflect the chess pieces actual utility. The king is a relatively stationary piece and something you want to keep protected in a similar way to how King spends the entirety of chapter 1 inside his castle. The queen chess piece has the most mobility of any piece in chess, much like how Queen is a very active character throughout the chapter, popping up constantly. I have no idea the other antagonists will make this work if they will at all, but I still think it’s worth mentioning how people have said that the reason the Knight is so confusing kind of reflects how the knight piece has a very strange way of moving about the board in an L shape.

This is a word dump. If you don’t bother to read, then skip this. While the ten year anniversary argument is a great one, I still think it’ll be released this year. For three reasons. One: something that Cibles said in the video. Chapter 4 will most likely be done long before the anniversary. And Toby knows that we’re starved for content. So why would he hold off a fully completed project for months at a time? Two: Toby Fox has had an odd pattern with his release schedule. Every game he has made has been released three years after the previous. And the last two were both released on October 31st. And while I have no doubt that October 31st will be the day of release, the year comes into question. Why would he break that streak? Especially considering my next reason. Three: Toby announced in in the newsletter (I think it was the fall one) that chapter five was to be removed from the schedule and only chapters 3 & 4 were to come with the full release. Now, taking everything I’ve said into consideration, why would he have removed the chapter if he could’ve had time to complete it? He would only remove it if he couldn’t complete it by a certain release date that would be coming soon. For example: October 31st, 2024. But I wouldn’t be mad if it released on the tenth anniversary. If it doesn’t release this year, that would still make 100% sense. Or another theory (this one is a little far-fetched). What if he does release the game this year, but only chapter 3? What if he saves chapters 4 & 5 for the tenth anniversary? Although this would be quite fitting, I don’t see it happening. But it’s fun to think about, nonetheless.

according to chess theory, king and queen do reflect their piece counterparts. king pieces are very stationary, hanging back, and can only move one space at a time. king in deltarune doesn't appear until the end, and slowly moves one step at a time. queen pieces are extremely mobile, which reflects how queen constantly appears everywhere in chapter 2. since king is the most valuable chess piece and queen the second most valuable, it's also often speculated that the rook will be the next villain, as they're the third most valuable piece (I think it's sometimes equal to the bishop, but sometimes more valuable, and the bishop also doesn't fit for a TV world). the rook can only move in straight lines, which can probably work for a minigame focused world. anyway, with these things in mind, chess theory speculates that the chapter 4 will feature the bishop, and chapter 5 will see us confront the knight. after the knight, the least valuable piece is the pawn, with it being speculated that we are pawns. pawns can only move forward, which lines up with weird route's proceed line. so chapter 6 would focus on the pawn.

As a chess player, I’m not too sure I buy chess theory, but this “6 pieces” issue can be resolved with “dark” and “light” bishops. If these are both counted, it brings the number up to 7. I think it is possible that you can consider these two different pieces since in chess, the two bishops you have are NOT identical in their movement and are designed to complement each other, since one only moves on dark squares and one only moves on light squares. Deltarune has the light and dark worlds. So..??

Originally yes, however, Toby stated later on (in the February newsletter if I am correct), that it will only be Chapters 3 and 4 releasing now. Toby wants to get these chapters out as soon as possible, and Chapter 5 is still VERY far away from finishing development, so he decided to cut that off from the bundle to decrease wait time for Chapters 3 and 4. It seems most likely that Chapter 5 will be a standalone release, with Chapters 6 and 7 bundled together like originally planned. An interesting thing to note, however, is that Chapters 3 and 4 will not only be paid for, but will include Chapters 1 and 2 in its bundle, that will be paid for as well. So anyone who buys it is paying for the first 4 chapters. We do not yet know what the price of said bundle (or the individual chapters) will be, however, just that it'll be more than Undertale.

I think the king and queen do stay true to their name inside of the game. You only see the king at the end of the chapter really. in chess you mostly only move the king if he is in danger of if he can attack. in chapter 1, he only attacks once the FUN gang is there. The Queen in chess has all the moves except for the knight. So the queen can move kinda where ever she wants. In deltarune Chapter 2, The queen does show up very frequently inside of the chapter from start to finish, just bothering the gang for fun.

I'm afraid I disagree on a lot here. #1: The alt text for Gigi's concept art of the cowboy outfits says that they "were going to appear." That pretty much explicitly confirms this part was cut. #2: I think there's a good chance that the main antagonists for the first six chapters won't just be randomly chosen chess pieces. Rather, they'll come in descending order of rank, so King->Queen->Rook->Bishop->Knight->Pawn. This order matches up so far and it would also pit us against the Knight in Chapter 5, which would be far enough in the future to seem plausible. #3: I actually think there's a lot about the King and Queen that matches up with their corresponding chess pieces. In chess, the king is a slow piece whose survival needs to be ensured, so players tend to not move him around too much, with many of his moves only happening when he's threatened. Likewise, the King in Deltarune spends most of Chapter 1 just sitting on his throne while relying on his minions to do the work instead, with him only fighting back in self defense when the party finally threatens him directly. Based on his actions, I also think his plan was simply to protect his Dark Fountain while waiting for the Knight to create more, which would be a fitting strategy for such a defensive piece. In contrast, the queen is the most mobile piece in chess and an excellent fit for all sorts of offensive plays. Likewise, Queen is a far more proactive antagonist, with her constantly showing up in all sorts of different locations. Her strategy is also very aggressive, with her wanting to personally contribute to the spread of Dark Fountains rather than continuing to rely on the Knight. #4: While I expect Chapter 3's main antagonist to be a rook, I don't think they literally have to be named such as long as they act the part. I mean, most of us probably aren't expecting the Knight to be a character literally named Knight either. I could see Tenna being that rook. He could be the showman who is hosting all of the TV shows throughout the chapter, but also turn out to be a swindler who regularly screws over his own talent with crooked deals. I mean, he does seem to have played a role in screwing over Spamton in the past and possibly Mike, given that that guy appears to be on the run from his henchmen. #5: I'm surprised you don't mention the possibility of Undyne being in Chapter 3. She seems like the most logical candidate to me, given that Toriel called her over and that Kris made sure the door was open. I could easily see her becoming this chapter's Berdly, with Tenna tricking her into working for him by exploiting her desire to finally see some real action. I'm not really putting my money on Asgore. Based on how the September 2022 progress report seems to refer to Chapter 3 as a long night, I think it'll only take place over the night, which would be a very weird time for anyone other than Undyne to visit. Plus, I think it's pretty clear that something serious must have happened with Asgore in the past, which seems like a subject unsuited for such a lighthearted chapter. I instead expect his own house to become a future Dark World where that's dealt with. #6: I think Toriel won't act the way we'd be inclined to expect. The alarm clock excerpts and some of Rudy's dialog imply that her composed personality is to some extent an act, and that she can actually be a real party animal. So I expect her to go wild in this chapter. #7: The second "mystery" Valentine's Day card is actually written by Alphys. The file name makes that very clear. I doubt it's of any real importance.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I really don't get why some people think Chapter 4 will mostly take place in the Light World. That theory was pretty much dead once we were told that it would be "a much more standard chapter." A standard chapter would be one that primarily focuses on a new Dark World, so that's how it has to be. Furthermore, we were told that one area where it already progressed quite far is enemy work. If there was barely any Dark World content in it, then it should be quite low on enemies, which would make completing most of the work on those an insignificant achievement not worth reporting. Sure, it's true that all screenshots and footage we saw of Chapter 4 were of the Light World and Castle Town, but I think it just ended up that way because Toby is playing his cards close to his chest when it comes to upcoming Dark Worlds. A major part of Deltarune's appeal is its sense of wonder and discovery. For Chapter 3, that's already been somewhat diminished because we were shown where its Dark World is located ahead of time. I imagine Toby wants Chapter 4's Dark World to be a bigger surprise by concealing nearly everything about it.

Running with the quiz show idea, I think it'd be funny if the quiz show had fun questions, maybe a few that reveal small details. Like "What is Susie's last name" or even for a "Price is right" type segment asking questions like "How much is a Dark Candy?". But I think it'd be funny if a few ominous questions were throw in. How much is 1 egg? Or doing a call back to the Metaton fight. Well, no, a queen is able to move everywhere on the board, and Queen is always one step ahead of us, moving with us and capturing us and playing games with us. King stays in his castle and we don't meet him until the final battle, signifying that the king chess piece can only move one space at a time and is prioritized to be protected instead of used as a playable piece. Well, Queen and King did date, the color scheme could be a nod to how cartoons make married couples look like siblings in order to convey that 😅

One thing regarding the chess theory, I would like to point out that the designs of King, Queen, and even Lancer seem to be less focused on the chess pieces, but more focused on the playing cards. Not only do their faces have card symbols (King and Lancer have spades, Queen has a heart) but their designs aren’t similar at all to the one enemy based on chess: Ponman. Their color pallet is completely colorless, while K&Q have very vibrant blues in their designs. Ponman is incredibly simplistic, while the royals have complex designs. Maybe not the most complex, but much more than the basic white of Ponman. Plus King and Queen actually have arms. (They are also not very similar to Mr. Society or Mr. Elegance, who may be chess pieces but I can’t tell which ones) I personally think that our antagonists from now on may be more focused on cards, but I do find it possible for our next main villain to be based on the Jack based solely on the fact that he’s the last one who has arms and legs (assuming the jester is taken by Jevil)

6:07 I’m unsure if anyone else has said this but King and Queen do follow chess rules/game play. Typically you don’t move the king until the very end, and in the first chapter he doesn’t make a move or make an appearance until the very end. The queen can move all over the chess board and for some people the tactic is to bring the queen out immediately, Queen in her chapter is frequently seen and moves everywhere throughout the chapter.
