The audacity of the ‘I’m trying’ Before I found Caleb last summer I had a 72 month car loan- 60 months left. I realized I needed more money to take care of it so I got a second job. I don’t love working retail again- but I have 15 years experience and got a job within 2 weeks. I’ll have the car paid off by November. Full emergency fund by may 2025. It’s 16 months working 55 hours a week and there’s no debt. I can do it😊

They simply can't fathom that the new, shiny cars or trucks they want, the travelling, eating out, going to concerts, expensive clothes and such... are all consumptions that they would need to make tens of thousands dollars more to be able to afford on top of regular living expenses without going into debt

That's bad, I can hugely improve, hey at least I'm saving some $$$ now. These videos have helped me a ton but also.. When I watch these videos, where the people are living like ME with no stable income, while also buried in credit card debt, I don't know how they mentally cope with that tbh. I get fighting for motivation and the like but god damn there's a point where shit is too far/too bad.

@@MortenDamm Yeah honestly, super early into lockdowns was a different story cause there were lots of cars on lots and literally nobody wanted to buy a car, but after a couple of months, scarcity caused them to have a big uptick (used cards have only *recently* started coming down). Most dealerships don't pay full cash for every car that lands, so having a lot of cars that won't sell means you're paying insane interest (hence why cars stuck on lots for a long time get discounted). Low volume means low fees, and literally no incentive to rush the sales of cars, ESPECIALLY at 30% off what they paid for the trade (they'd make way more at auction)

@@leolewanayit’s the monthly payment for the bank loan you take out to buy a house. Most houses in the US are too expensive to pay cash for so you pay a certain percentage down and then get a loan for the amount of the majority of the house. The payment is based off of the interest rate and the purchase amount. If you don’t pay the mortgage you will go into foreclosure and the bank will seize the house. $1k a month is very low which means the loan was taken out at a time when interest rates were significantly lower than they are now, and if you took out a new loan or went to rent you would not find equivalent housing for $1k.

I swear this eat, pray, love mindset is a disease. I get it. You worked corporate, probably not passionate about it. Lost a loved one, needed to grieve and process. But what you actually did is allow rot and mold into your life. Mental break downs and journeys to find yourself are only available to the wealthy or those willing to live on absolutely nothing. You are neither of those. You are blessed and will squander those blessings because you dont recognize them. The house, even this conversation with Caleb. You cant even take responsibility.

I remember I had a really good friend who hadn’t seen her dad in years, they had a bit of a strained relationship. Her dad invited her to his home in Atlanta (we’re in the Midwest) and she was very excited. Taking a bunch of pictures of ATL and so happy that her dad is being present in her life. Dad even gave her a nice shiny BMW. SUV type car. Looked like something a rich soccer mom would drive. She drove the car back to Kansas City, elated at her dad’s kindness. Within a month the car was repo’d out of her boyfriend’s driveway. He must have ran out of money to pay, and manipulatively decided “eh I’ll pawn it off on my daughter. Worst case it’s repossessed anyways, best case my daughter believes im very generous.” Don’t know how long he missed payments for. But they seriously had that car for ~3 weeks before it disappeared out of the driveway.

I did it in 2019 because my job was killing me mentally and the quick math of "costume sale price - material cost = profit" meant I made twice as much hourly doing the thing I loved. In reality it's not that simple and the grind will wear you down, despite what the entrepreneur side of the internet wants you to believe. It went south and now I'm working to fix it. First step was getting over that "my time is worth blahblah an hour and I could never work for less!" and I got a job as a school janitor. Pays more than pizza management did, people leave me alone, not much responsibility. Sure if I could make art at max productivity every single day, I could make way more. But that's not how life works. If I am having a bad day with my productivity and time management at my current job, I still get paid the same rate.

As an ex loan officer, the missed mortgage payment absolutely triggered me. Her mortgage payment is just over half of what mine is and it’s worth significantly more than my place. It’s mind blowing that she is risking such a huge equity position that could bankroll so much of her life and her “business” if she were to sell it. As to why it triggered me, mortgages are such a big investment people make. If someone can’t make all of their debt payments, they WILL make their mortgage payment. They may be past due on their car, student loans, or credit cards, but missed mortgage payments are one of the best indicators for finances being thrown out the window. If they are starting to miss a mortgage payment, that’s a massive red flag of a potential bankruptcy incoming soon. I used to deny people immediately if they had 2 recent missed mortgage payments even if they had everything else paid well, it’s that terrifying of a sight for financial wellbeing.
