The bit about Cell copying everyone's techniques and abilities made me realize that while Goku also inherited a bunch of techniques, he takes time to innovate on them especially with the Kamehameha. Whereas Cell just uses them as is. I also really liked the bit about the Ultra Divine Water with Goku putting his life on the line to live rather than die. It feels like I had a long dormant thought in my head that I was finally able ot put into words.

Cell is also a super fast learner which is why they wont ever revive the original cell. When Cell almost died the first time he learned instant transmition while vegeta had to hard train in dragon ball super. Also, like Frieza, Cell is analitic and he knows when a technique does shit and how to copy or counter it.

Gero dying early on in the Android Saga hurts me immensely. I would've loved to see a story where Gero doesn't get killed by No. 17 and goes on to interact with No. 16 (who was modeled after his dead son) and his reaction to Cell coming into the past. I don't think he gets as much light as other villains like Freeza and Cell for obvious reasons, but his impact on the series is just as great as either one of them; he created machines that decimated alternate timelines and killed warriors birthed from ancient legends, got the gang powered up and ready for the coming threat of Majin Boo, and he inadvertently ended up saving the entire multiverse through No. 17. And I would've loved to see one more scene where he talks to Goku in the Android Saga and gives him his whole dramatic backstory, which makes Goku realize just how damning his actions can really be and give him more fuel for his decision to stay dead after the Cell Games. The thought of you causing the deaths of all your friends and the human race in two separate timelines because you killed a man's son is something that will fuck with anyone's head.

Yeah, the retcon of 16 being a replica of Gero's dead soon is tragic, and really makes you think about Goku's actions during the Red Ribbon saga. He killed a LOT of people, more than he ever would during the rest of his life.
@omegashinobi
@omegashinobi 2 жыл бұрын
Actually Goku never killed Gero's son. He was killed defending a higher officer in the line if duty. However since Goku killed said officers and the army itself, he made said sacrifice worthless. Basically Gero hated how Goku ruined his legacy and wanted revenge on multiple ways.
@youngsmitty347
@youngsmitty347 2 жыл бұрын
@@omegashinobi Man, that feels dumber imo. Even if Goku destroying the RRA fuels Gero's hate, I feel like directly killing Gero's son during his attack on the base's HQ would make more sense from a thematic standpoint for the saga. Android Arc focuses on fatherhood and the legacy they leave on their children; Goku with Gohan and Future Gohan, Vegeta with Future Trunks, and the arc even opens up with Freeza coming to Earth for revenge with his father. So with Gero doing all this for the son he lost to Goku, it would fit in perfectly with that aspect.

I love how the main theme of dragon ball seems to be that "power respects equal or greater power" and that strong individuals challenge each other with the protags providing "balance" to the world around them. Power when used the right way is for maintaining balance and peace. Not to destroy and subjugate. Which to be fair, is a theme in other stories. Edit: then again, that just shows how timeless dragon ball is.

Another connection to Goku: Jiren’s backstory is a direct mirror reflection of Goku’s story in the King Piccolo arc. The only difference is that there were no Dragon Balls and he didn’t have the same abilities of Goku to surpass that foe in time. He simply lost, and that therefore made him lost

I think you could definitely find something within Beerus, Zamasu/Goku Black, Granola, and the Heeters. I guess you could do something with Jiren, though it's not particularly interesting. As cool as Moro is, he kinda feels like an amalgamation of other villains' themes. I guess the most notable thing with Moro is that he (and Granola) sees power and fighting as nothing more than a means to an end, which is certainly an interesting direction for Dragon Ball. Then there's Frieza and his journey, which is by far the most interesting in my opinion. He went from never training a day in his life and being afraid of being challenged to actively enjoying battle, passing on immortality, and training for 10 years in the Time Chamber all while the current antagonists were using the Dragon Balls to powerup.

Excellent video. It's good to see someone giving the villains of Dragon Ball their due. There are a few additional aspects I believe could have been included though if not finding it to make the video too verbose: Another key aspect that differentiates Piccolo Daimao from other villains in the franchise is that his goal after conquest was to abolish all laws rather than enforcing his own system like Red and Freeza or being purely about wanton destruction as with Cell or Boo. He let humanity run wild in what seems to be an attempt to show their true colours, something that becomes retroactively profound with later reveals of Kami's position or Kaio stating that their original, united self likely had his heart's purity damaged by what he witnessed of humans on Earth. With Piccolo, his identity with his previous incarnation as well as Goku and Gohan's views on him compared to his father, there's a few elements that become apparent with a deep dive into eastern beliefs. Several Daoist or Buddhist traditions believe that the physical destruction of aspects and iconography of a demon can weaken their power, with it being fitting that Goku pierces through Piccolo Daimao's Ma (demon) kanji when landing a fatal blow. By these cultural beliefs, this would serve as a slight exorcism that helps explain why the new Piccolo is perceived as not being as evil. Another detail on their identity is that Piccolo refers to himself with the pronoun of "ora" much as Goku and Chichi (ie. that of a younger, less well-mannered person) whereas Daimao refers to himself with "washi" (that of an older man) showing the two are different on a mental level. Raditz is also an interesting case beyond his role as Goku's brother as he represented just as much of an escalation in selfishness as power between the three Saiyan enemies of the arc. Despite his claims, there'd be no utilitarian benefit of having someone of Goku's power at the time join them and he even uses the death of their parents as an attempt to squeeze a reaction out of Goku, showing he wanted a sense of familial bonds that was still rooted in their Saiyan ideals. Nappa is far more adamant about killing Goku rather than recruiting him but still displays some level of care for allies such as believing at first Vegeta would use the Dragon Balls to revive Raditz until Vegeta elaborated on gaining eternal life as well as being shocked at Vegeta killing a Saibaiman that had proven to be inferior to Tenshinhan, compared to Vegeta having little care for allies that serve no use to him. This works very well as an inverted escalation of how the Dragon Team became less selfish over time too. It's a bit disappointing you didn't mention King Cold. Despite his short stay in the story, his role recontextualises Freeza's actions as those of a spoiled child who was raised to know little better than the character traits he displayed. This also fits thematically with his loss on Namek coming from a difference in ideology as him not being challenged in his mindset causes him to give Goku the opportunity to overpower him and his immaturity causing his near death. The dying Namek is also one of the most fitting locations for a major fight in the series, the planet being gradually destroyed every bit as much as Freeza's ideals.

"Even a low class warrior can surpass an elite, if he works hard enough." A simple line, but one that captured the spirit of the whole series and Goku as a character. He doesn't look down on his opponents, but is inspired by their strength to better himself, eager to train and grow to a higher level, so he can stand as their equal. He fully accepts his weakness, and strives to grow, while characters like Vegeta refuse to accept that their assumptions might be false or that a being who they labeled as "weak" could challenge them. The villains rely on their scouters to measure the potential of people with a numerical value, assigning them a rank from birth. Goku and his friends time and time again defy this mentality, by surpassing their limits and so called "power level" to the disbelief of the villains.

Vegeta represents Nature and unwillingly coming to understand ones nurture his armor started off full in the Saiyan arc, then it looses alot of details in Frieza and cell then Buu he's unwilling to forget his pride of his nature but grew to respect the effect of nurture, Frieza represented Nature a force of nature that overcame Vegeta, notice how he was naturally strong and didn't train, he was a force of nature it was enforcing Vegetas belief to an absurd amount, Cell was a contradiction he was a future threat that came to the present made up of past warriors and foes he was a walking contradiction, so it took Gohan another contradiction to beat him he was a Saiyan earthling hybrid, taught by a demon namekian, Gohan was always unsure of himself unlike Goku and Vegeta he sometimes wants to fight and other times doesn't so it took a contradiction to beat a contradiction, Buu represents loosing ones self, notice how fat Buu isn't pure he speaks child like and can be reasoned with like with Hercule and Goku, Super Buu could also be compromised but to a lesser extent and he talked more monstrously, it's only when he took in more people its when he looses his self, and Kid Buu the purest of them all couldn't speak well and couldn't be compromised with he was at his most pure but lost a lot of power, the heroes were also not themselves they relied on tricks like fusion and unlocked power instead of using there own strengths. Which is why the spirit bomb was perfect for defeating Buu because it represents pure good positive energy taking out pure evil

The 23rd tournament’s Goku vs Piccolo Jr is a brutal fight, but by stepping back, Piccolo Jr can be seen as an orphanage toddler having a tantrum. Goku I think saw this, along with the difference between father and Son, ( plus the whole Kami connection) so he just outlasted the outburst, and punished him just enough to force feed some humble pie, but then chose to show some kindness after punishment, like a parental figure and so he spared the remaining demon servant, knowing the child could improve and be a better person. Thankfully he did.

I always felt like Gohan's arc was never closed. Cursed to perpetually relive his mistakes of arrogance. Such a wasted character, there's something about not wanting to fight and yet being unable to escape that life. He may not want it, but he was always destined to be Goku's successor, and I wish Toriyama would've explored his character more in that 25th martial arts tournament.

Nobody will ever be goku. He's literally 1 of a kind. That's why he's always the one that ends up saving the day.

@@colinnixon7739 Gohan was the one that saved the day at the end of the Cell arc, not Goku. Idk, its just wrong to introduce an idea into a story and then going back on it. That’s why the Buu arc always felts so disconnected to me. Toriyama was building towards something great and then he just rushed it at the end. Don’t get me wrong, the buu arc is fun but it ain’t near close to the Cell or Frieza arc. I’m not saying Gohan should be Goku, but at least finish what you started years ago with his character and don’t leave him unresolved.

@TheLenbax Gohan didn't save the day. Android 16 saved the day. Goku coaching Gohan saved the day, vegeta hitting cell in the back saved the day. Gohan was not proactive in cells defeat. He was passive. He literally couldn't do it by himself on his own merits. That's not a good protagonist.

Interesting that this video was supposed to talk about the antagonists of Dragonball and yet it talks a lot about Goku; almost as if Goku was slowly growing to be a villain himself, not of malice or vengeance, but of boredom, selfishness, and a lack of self-awareness.

LMAO, no... The DBS super staff just made Goku and absolute idiot and he sucks. Back in DBZ goku showed legit fear and concern when the villain was too powerful and he was always thinking how to avoid the villain to kill more civilians or if they could get the Dragon balls to revive them.

But Super wise has different scenarios than in Z, so goku having a different mindset when dealing with them makes sense. When he fought Beerus, it was mainly trying face an impossible obstacle and learning that sometimes you just can't win all the time. Even at his most serious Goku wouldn't have been able into change anything. For RoF, Frieza returning With far more power than ever caught everyone off guard so they had no means of extra preparation. The arc also showed off more of their respective strengths and weaknesses, and act as a wakeup call to turn those weaknesses into future strengths. The Champa tournament didn't have many stakes and was just a chance at the heroes to home their skills and grow, something that Goku had wanted for decades. So he still did the best he could but nothing would have changed regardless of his mindset. The Future arc also had a different situation due to how mystery unfolded. The team made a few great errors, but most of it was due to how Goku Black and Zamasu were completely different from foes they fought before and they were caught odd guard more than ever. Especially when one of them is immortal and the other adapts to every technique and power you throw at them. As for the ToP, again nothing Goku could have done that wouldn't have made that situation worse. Especially since without him Zeno would have just wiped out all if creation for being so shity.

Exquisitely done😎 The only part I didn't agree on was Goku's power level after him and Gohan left the chamber.. I've been a fan of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z for a long time. And what I've learned while watching was, "Never trust Goku when it comes to his power 🤣🤣🤣" They did have a point when trying to end the Goku show but he's just too unique of the character to end... Regardless I still feel they should have ended him anyway. That way other fans could have developed the outlook you have on the show.. After watching this video it's very clear that Dragon Ball Z as a story ended for you.. And as a humongous fan of special things that end myself... I give you much respect✌️😁
