The sound from this internet feed is just about as good as i can get from a good LP on either of my turntables. I can CRANK it with no distortion. Somebody knows what they are doing here!! And not to mention I love what these 3 - guys do!!
@Dracu136 жыл бұрын
Just wanna' point out one thing: Drum Micing! THIS is a good drummer, a good mic, a good room and obviously someone making a hell of mix! I mean look at it (or more Listen to it - especially the DAMN SNARE!!!) If I'm counting correctly this is one Large Dia. over head, one kick mic and one condenser aimed towards snare/hi-hat. And it sounds so killer! Love this! This is how sound should be!

Guitarists, myself included, need to be more like Jimmy James. Sometimes overthinking makes you lose the essence of music and grooving. Really thrilled to add him to my list of contemporary influences.

@@josh0g It's not ONLY foot bass. It's a complex combo of left hand and foot. The pedals are an octave lower, but the fancy articulation is done by the LH.

Love these guys, but Medeski Martin and Wood are the kingpin organ groove posse of the last 20+ years, check em out if you haven't, I've seen them live about 50 times since the mid 1990s.
@lilakmonoke9826 жыл бұрын
agreed but its a very different pocket without the guitar if you listen closely. this music is all about the pocket!
@ElCapinyoazz6 жыл бұрын
I'm a guitarist. Prefer a separate bass player and no guitarist in an organ trio, but everyone's taste is different. Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery made some killer records together in the 60s if you're into groovy organ with guitar.

would have liked to hear the hammond organ in stereo,it is an art to mic up rotating leslie speakers,here you'd need four mics,but the sonic rewards would blow the listener away.don't think most engineers know how to do it.the drums sound good but are in mono,cool if thats what you dig,but putting two condensers together,(not seperated above)in co-incident placement facing 90 degrees from each other would give you stereo drums too.loved the groove though!
@JoshGarsideMeyers5 жыл бұрын
I think that mono drums and mono Hammond really helps everything blend together in the recording, but I also agree with you. Mono is old school and makes for a well blended sound, but miking the drums and leslie in the manner you suggested would add so much depth to the recording. Both are great sounds, but I appreciate that they kept things simple when recording simple music. I suppose if they are going for the late 60's soul sound, then this is the way to record it.
@organfreak5 жыл бұрын
Micing the bass in stereo is a waste of time/equipment because bass waves are so long in space that there really isn't any stereo effect. That's why we don't bother with it.
