I can relate to what you are feeling because I’m going through the exact same thing with my wife of 51 years. She can do nothing at all anymore , she doesn’t talk or dress herself or anything else. I can’t bring myself to think about a home away from me. I felt your pain as you talked about your lives together as it was quite similar to our lives and I can’t imagine life without her in it. I ask each day for the Lord to just give me one day at a time because that’s all I can handle and I can’t even do that without him to guide my every step. I sometimes set quietly crying as I watch her sleep knowing that that’s when she is the most peaceful and I know that that is really the best for her but it leaves a huge hole in my heart ♥️ where she once lived. God bless you and all that are living with this awful condition.

Disagree 100%. If God was what the Bible said He is, He would have LONG AGO fixed our sinful world, and there would BE NO DEMENTIA, rape, murder, etc., etc. I say this as a Christian of many decades who is just tired of praising a God who, let us be honest, doesn't give a care or is doing a thing for humanity. Lean on your fellow humans, as THEY will support you, while God will let you die in agony, despite His "power" and Glorious love" for us.

My mom had a massive stroke at 69 and came out of it with dementia. The most kindest, caring and independent woman now needed help. My dad was also a congestive heart failure patient so he was too weak to take care of her. Thankfully, I lived across the street. I was both of their caregivers. I did it all from doctor calls, testing, medication, bringing over breakfast lunch and dinners, changing depends, bathing, etc. My son & my boyfriend helped too but my brother who lives 5 mins away wanted nothing to do with them. I don’t understand why and I probably never will. It was hard but I always kept a smile on my face around them and cried so deeply when I was alone. We made memories with videos, played games to strengthen her brain, went for rides & sang a lot. I lost mom on July 17th of 2019 and then dad 12 days later. It was hard and still is but if I had to do it all over again, I would. I loved them so much and still do. Memories are all I have now but they help get me through the day. God bless you sir 🙏🥺♥️

I cried so much with this wonderful man's story of love. My husband has been my sole care taker for the past 2 years. I'm at home in a hospital bed unable to get up at all. He helps me bath, and bm in bed, w which is so very hard to do ly lying down. He cooks, cleans and shops. However, for the past 5 months he can't remember so many things and it is progressing so fast, I don't have anyone that could help us. I cry every day that I can't help him, but I can't even help me. I don't want him taken away from me. He has spirts of anger and it's very hard to live every day not knowing if it's our last together. We are living on social security and it's very low amount. Medicare is terrible. They won't pay for the necessities. We will be married 36 years in a couple weeks and never have been apart. He has always taken care of me and it's so scary. Nursing homes are soooooo terrible and also dementia places are slums. I don't want him to be miss treated. And I have no one to live in our apartment with us. I pray for that man to stay healthy and able to visit his wife always. God bless him.

God bless you both - true soulmates, a love so rare these days. This reminds me of my beloved Grandparents who both went through the same with Parkinson's dementia. Old school, they stuck together until the end. Oh, for a love like that. John, you are an inspiration to love, honour and care, the way it should be. I've recently been diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's & have cognitive decline already - but it's a road I have to be prepared to travel alone. Thank you for sharing your tragic but beautiful story. May a cure for this dreadful disease be found soon and awareness raised that Parkinson's doesn't "just" affect older people - it can manifest in one's teens. I was 31 when first symptoms appeared. Blessings to all.

Thank you for raising it and making us aware of it - especially that it also affects young people. May God comfort and guide you through this and remind you daily that you are not alone. God loves you and is with you always! We are praying for you and that a cure be found. Please feel free to go to www.messagesofhope.org.au/dementia for more inspiring videos and a free booklet at the bottom of that page. God bless you

We are going through the same thing but my husband is at an earlier stage. We often say that as long as we have today and we have each other, we are okay. It is a heartbreaking and devastating disease and so difficult to cope with sometimes. But we’ve been together more than fifty years and if I could magically go back 50 years and know that he would end up with dementia, I would marry him anyway. He is and always will be the love of my life.
