I was able to meet Joshua Young in person and look at his work. I also was able to play what he is building and admire his playing skills. I should get my Young D-18 sunburst from the "TREE" for the USA Luthiers collection around the first of the year.

And once again sir, you will make me jealous! I do think though both of our Young 18s will be back to back, so at least they will rub shoulders lol. You my brother, always have exquisite taste, and that is a quality I strongly admire!

Thank you very much my friend, those are very kind words, and I sure appreciate you watching. I really enjoy doing Guitars like this, that are individually built.

Lovely 😎 I've got a couple CrapEphone's. An AJ-1 and a Hummingbird Pro. Wish I could afford a real solid wood Martin, Yamaha or Gibson.

One of the ones we have coming up from Joshua, is a beautiful Guatemalan Rosewood. Man it is a powerhouse, with a pretty burst, maple binding, and really cool inlay.

Ok so you can contract with individual builders at Martin? If so, interesting.
@HenryPipes Жыл бұрын
No this is not a Martin guitar. It's an independent builder in the style of Martin guitars. I don't think names like D28 have been copywrited, or if they have it expired some time ago.
@vernonyates8408 Жыл бұрын
@@HenryPipes Martin has trademarked "D-28" and a few other model names. Trademarks can be renewed indefinitely. We use terms like "D-18" and "D-28" in conversation because of our familiarity with Martin guitars and what those terms mean in that context. Martin does protect their trademarks, but based on other manufacturers using them without permission, not how people use the terms in conversation. While they might not be particularly concerned about an individual luthier using the term, I would suggest NOT stamping that inside the guitar is the wise choice.
@HenryPipes Жыл бұрын
@@vernonyates8408 This may be true (about Martin's trademarks) but it actually being enforced is another topic. In 2018 Martin tried to trademark it's square headstock shape, but you'll noticed that this hasn't deterred small builders from practically using this shape. I am guessing small builders do a similar thing with dreadnaught names. Perhaps they can it a Dread 2-8 or just 28 without the "D" or some variation to avoid a lawsuit. The same may be true for headstocks. Perhaps they are .10 inch larger or smaller in some direction.

Unfortunately, we can’t really identify anyone at Martin as being a builder. Generally speaking, it is more of a production environment, with the craft people being trained to do certain jobs, but not completely build a guitar from start to finish. with the production numbers they have, it would be impossible to have individual builders, making instruments by hand from start to finish. And yes, lots of times I, along with most others, will identify a rosewood Guitar with particular aesthetic choices, or a mahogany guitar with particular aesthetic choices, as a 28 or 18. this is not really too try and pass anything off, it is just that martin has made that big of an impact on the acoustic guitar industry.

@@ShawnBrockMusic Thanks. I sold my gorgeous tiger- mapled Taylor years ago because it was just too tinny sounding, oh but everything else was so perfect , intonation, the Fishman pickups actually worked on stage lol . I'm just on a Yamaha FG 830 right now, my third one, but damn, it sounds closer to a Martin. For 300.00 . You gotta have that low end, and the sustain. That build you got there fires on all cylinders. I do sort of lean toward new guitars. Last Q, what mic is that?

Well, I sure am enjoying myself. I absolutely love the way you pick Tennessee waltz. Going to sit and work on that for a little while. I wish I had a bigger budget, can’t afford some of those fine guitars, but I sure love to hear them. Although, I’ve had pretty good luck picking out winners and I have two really sweet little Eastmans And one pretty nice Alvarez. Maybe someday I can make one of them sound half as good as you, for now, as I said, really enjoyed myself. Peace to you my friend.😊
