"Accidents" in general should really start reducing once these current vehicles trickle down in 5-8 years. The auto-stopping and lane alignment controls are quite impressive! This is pretty exciting stuff!

Its good but you cant rely on technology. Eventually it breaks or can have issues. Tesla self drive is an example
@mattb96643 жыл бұрын
I was simply sharing in Jeff's excitement for the self driving features. I just did a vacation drive on the NJ Gardenstate Parkway across the state, in very heavy rain, high volume traffic and lots of dangerous construction scenarios- I handle it just fine because I change out my tires every 2-3 years when needed and can handle other aggressive drivers and closeby traffic/obstacles... other people are not fortunate enough for various reasons to be able to have that capability. In terms of technology, I 'know' what's needed to get self driving cars, and I'm still not convinced we're ever going to get there unless we have 100% vehicles that have self drive standardized and have ad-hoc communication features between nearby vehicles to pre-negotiate every detail and minute driving decision with the nearby vehicles. Due to costs, and the prices passed to the customer, I think it's 100% self-driving is going to unobtainable for at least another 10-15 years.

My Toyota Camry with TSS have saved me from at least 6 accidents. No matter how good of a driver you are, all it takes is for you to get distracted for a few seconds and the cars infront of you slow down and then an accident happens. The computer warned me of the accident in time to allow me to brake to avoid any collision. Definitly a lifesaver!!!

@@Watchen98Capitalism is the framework that seeks to exploit profit-seeking, not the reason for the profit-seeking. Devoid of capitalism, efforts to improve existing products at no cost would likely be even less common due to the lack of competitive pressure necessitating such considerations. People often get this backward, generally because of preconceived biases that color their perception of reality. Fact is, all life is "self"-ish-animals, humans, corporations, governments, you name it. There is no perfection, but seeking to exploit that selfishness for the benefit of the consumer/society is actually the most sensible response. Hence, capitalism. [/ECON101]

Should the spare tire be wrapped in a cover to prevent it from rusting or being damaged so that it will be available when you need it? What other preventive maintenance should an owner perform to make sure the vehicle last longer?
@rightlanehog31514 жыл бұрын
Great choice, you can incorporate the spare into a 5 tire rotation routine. If you live in an area where road salt is an issue then high quality rustproofing is a must. Happy trails.

I believe what Emergency Steering Assist is meant to do is keep the vehicle within the confines of a 10ft - 12ft wide lane, and steer to pass around a pedestrian or obstacle only if there's enough lane width to safely do so. If the pedestrian is right in the middle of the lane it will brake. I never use this feature. I only use Lane Departure or Pre-Collison when driving long distances on the Interstate. There's no substitute for alert responsible driving. No amount of computerized safety gear can replace that.
@RealJohnnyDingo3 жыл бұрын
if people would follow at a safe distance and drive with at least one eye open there would be a lot less accidents. I think this tech is pretty amazing and considering how many people drive it's going to be a net positive. hopefully it gives an error message if the camera lens is obstructed!

I think Pre-collision system work well only in day light and you know it works when it beeps simultaneously. I have to swerve to avoid sudden stop by a car infront that rear ended another car at night.

@guidedmeditation23962 жыл бұрын
This entire safety suite is paramount in my next purchasing decision. I have seen reviews for the Chevy Tahoe that are not good. The Adaptive cruise control works well but often times the lane keep assist doesn't kick in until you are actually on top of the lane. Where I live has one of the worst number of accidents in the country. The numerous large blvds have three lanes each way. The right lane has constant people entering the road or throwing on their brakes to turn. The left lane has people throwing on their brakes to make a left turn and often times a left turn lane backs up and abruptly stops the left lane. So the middle lane seems like the best choice for long cross town runs but you face another set of problem. You really need to stay in that center of the lane and keep just the right distance from the car in front of you or people play slot car and swerve over to take your lane if you leve them enough room. RELIABILITY and SAFETY SUITE OF ELECTRONICS are everything to me. More important than economy or styling. As I have narrowed down my search I have found perhaps the top 5 safety suites 1. TESLA 2. HYUNDAI/KIA 3. MERCEDES 4. TOYOTA 5. GM

I like your video because it focuses on the safety systems, not on body. But I really would like to see a video maybe with a mockup of a near miss? Thanks for posting. I am also looking for explanations on how to set and how these safety systems work. Not easy reading since my manual just for driver assist is over 80 pages and most of that are disclaimers of when it might not work! What? DCC speed overtake? No... Can you pass a slower vehicle in front of you by changing lanes. Yes. It has always worked this way with DCC. "Overtaking" is misleading. Ex. You and the car in front of you are in the right lane. You have DCC set to 70 mph. The car in front of you is only doing 65. Your car will slow to whatever the speed of the car in front is as long as it is going slower than 70. If you change lanes "say get in the left lane" and the road is clear in front of you, your car with pick up speed until you hit your DCC set speed. DCC has always worked this way. The only difference is now on some models you can change how fast your car with speed up to match the set speed. Pretty sure this was a complaint of the old DCC. As you moved in the clear lane and the car was slow to regain it's set speed. Thus pissing of the guy behind you that is going way to fast and is now on your ass. I've done it!

Excellent explanations of newest safety systems. How much rear headroom is lost in having a sunroof with the highlander? I’m thinking of a LE hybrid for this reason . My goal is camping and sleeping in the vehicle. Are the cloth seats in the LE essentially the same as the higher trims except for the outer cover?

I just got the 21 Highlander with 2.5+ as a fleet car. So far I really like the car. But the lane tracing assist has been a huge flop! It always wants to hug the right side of the lane. It was pretty unnerving passing a semi on my right and it constantly wanted to drag me towards it. I’m guessing I’ll just need to take it to the dealership if that’s not normal?
