Your talk is simply brilliant, especially because you talk about things that many of us “out here” are already tired of knowing, but that, from what I usually follow about your country, almost no one knows, because it is never talked about because a veil of silence prevails and an incredible effort to mask reality. So far, it has worked and the American people seem to live, literally, as if the country were a gigantic Disneyland, however, it seems to me that, with the advent of the internet (even though it is much more controlled and deceptive than we would like to suppose - not for another reason, all the bigtech theocrats were sitting in the audience during Mr. Trump's inauguration… and those who were not in the audience were on stage being sworn in with him), but still, even with all this control, the internet - by its very nature - still allows for the circulation of much more information than a few newspapers and television networks allowed to circulate and, therefore, from now on, it will be increasingly difficult to keep people in this great and nefarious circle of ignorance, because the truths will inevitably begin to appear. As former President Abraham Lincoln warned us: "You can fool some of the people ALL of the time, you can fool ALL of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool ALL of the people ALL of the time!"

The United States "democracy" allows the voters in the presidential and Congress election to choose between candidates of (usually) the Republican and Democratic parties (only), that the rich / wealthy and big corporations installed as candidates, using their huge donations. So, this is clearly not the kind of democracy that a democratic country should have. As long as so many Americans continue to vote for the two mainstream political parties (Republican and Democratic), both which are aligned with the extreme implementation of Capitalism in the United States, the country will continue to endure financial hardship caused by inflation and other adverse outcomes of Capitalism, such as health system run by insurance companies for profit, rising fuel and grocery prices and a huge inequality. It's time for implementing Socialism in the U.S., similar to the one with Chinese characteristics that's implemented in China, or at least the Social Welfare Model of some European countries, by all conscientious people starting to vote for the Socialist Party of the United States.

The people who hired them should be blamed and not them. More oppression and more intolerance lead to a more endless cycle of crimes and inequalities that we create. The only criminals are in Washington who fuels more danger and chaos for everyone else. Through hateful propaganda and false truths, the only ones who benefit from this are the corrupt politicians who are doing nothing to make the process easier through just paperwork and instead making them come illegally through sheer incompetence. Ultimately, a distraction from the tech oligarchs to gain more power instead of us. Remember this!

As a former railroad conducter, the railroad is probably the industry that I personally believe would be best served by converting to either a workers cooperative or becoming nationalized. I honestly believe that if all the safety rules were written by conductors and engineers, the work would both go more quickly and be safer. Also, with a larger pool of workers and converting certain jobs to 3 or 2 workers instead of 1 or 2 more experienced workers could be paired with new hires, allowing for better training. Better training means fewer delays and accidents. This precision scheduled railroading, in my opinion, is the cause of higher accident rates and excessive delays for customers. Rail will likely always be the most efficient way to transport heavy tonnage on land it's just physics. Steal wheels on steal rail have a lower rolling resistance than a rubber tire ever could, along with the reduced wind resistance, having the cars so close together.

But Richard Wolff completely left out the idea that Americans like to take drugs recreationally. US drug addiction is only the fault of everyone else-- the pharma companies, the doctors, the insurance, the corporations? That's truly short-sighted. I remember clearly that the druggies in school were the popular kids. It's a status thing in the US; and it goes back generations, maybe starting with the Beats. Until you're addicted, and your life unravels... then you're bottom of the heap.

Again, a very nice argument presented from a socialist (perhaps Marxist) perspective. I prefer to hear both sides of the argument. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, Trump wants to level the playing field. For example, if Americans are forced to pay 25% tariffs on goods exported to a country, shouldn't Americans be able to charge 25% tariffs on goods imported into America from that same country? This includes any and all countries that take advantage of the inequity. Please let me know if there is anything I am missing here.🤨🤔

It’s crucial for my analysis."
@NanceClearwater14 сағат бұрын
@@BoundlessVision-d2 I am not sure whether you understood Prof Wolff's point. I was not conversant with how tariffs work. Prof Wolff says that it is the American people (the ones who buy the imports) who pay the tariff, so a tariff is not a charge that is being imposed on another country; it is a tax that is being imposed on Americans who buy imports.

As for healthcare and drug use and abuse in the US other things could be said to: - What are the US and its states doing to decrease the head injuries along with drug and alcohol abuse that are among the main causes of the mental issues that not only makes the living for all residents of the US less pleasant but also keep America less competitive with the rest of the world? -Why the fast food industry was allowed for decades and still is allowed to serve low nutritious and high in unhealthy chemicals and hormones? -Why the green cross potholes were allowed to grow like mushrooms? -Why doctors and health providers are still quick to prioritize pharmaceutical medicines over natural remedies, better food and healthy activities? -Why can a country like Norway provide a better quality of healthcare at a lower per capita price? -Why is it not by law mandatory for managers to be screened for problematic mental issues before they are offered the job? Why we want to blame our neighbors for our drug consumption?
@waitaminute2015Күн бұрын
Drs tell patients every day to change their diets and lifestyle, but they don't do it. Drs know this, so they offer a drug that will help. Telling a patient to use a natural remedy means risking that patients life and be sued for not offering a solution. Have you seen what alternative or natural Drs charge? A visit is often more than $200 just for evaluation. Another issue is supplements aren't regulated so there's a 50/50 chance that vitamin is not in that capsule. I've been eating plant based for decades, but most of my friends won't do it. Drs are being falsely blamed for backing drug companies, but it's the patients.

Your second part on drugs and mental health is very interesting! We saw in sociology courses that there is a form of a (neuro)psychologization of social issues in our post-modern societies and the proponents of this approach assert that we can supposedly fix those issues directly in the brain by consuming chemicals... Its a way to responsabilised individuals rather than facing complex social problems. I think of social anxiety, depression, burnout, etc. just for example.

Trump's anti-immigrant campaigns have been one of the most polarizing aspects of his political tenure, drawing both staunch support and fierce criticism. While his rhetoric often resonated with his base by appealing to concerns about national security, economic competition, and cultural identity, it also sowed division and fear, targeting vulnerable communities. Policies such as the travel bans, family separations at the border, and the proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border were framed as measures to protect American jobs and ensure security. However, they often overlooked the economic and cultural contributions of immigrants, who have long been integral to the United States' growth and diversity. These policies and the accompanying rhetoric painted immigrants as scapegoats for broader systemic issues, such as wage stagnation and unemployment, deflecting attention from more complex causes like automation and corporate practices. The human cost of these campaigns cannot be ignored. Families were torn apart, asylum seekers were turned away, and entire communities were stigmatized. Beyond the immediate impacts, the campaigns eroded America's image as a land of opportunity and refuge, a core pillar of its identity for centuries. Addressing immigration requires nuanced, compassionate policies that balance security with humanity. Trump's approach, rooted in divisive rhetoric and punitive measures, failed to achieve this balance. Instead, it amplified polarization, leaving behind a legacy that the U.S. will grapple with for years to come. It’s a reminder that the true strength of a nation lies in its ability to embrace diversity and uphold the dignity of all who seek to contribute to its future.
