Josh Fox is right all the activists in NY sacrificed immensely and after much blood, sweat and tears got the first ban on fracking in USA even though NY has some large reserves of frackable gas near Binghamton, NY. Josh however rode the wave of all the activist sacrificing and self-promoted himself and made a good amount of money and became somewhat famous for a short span. He is world's greatest self-promoter and many people behind the scenes in the NY movement found that out about him. Michel Moore graciously invited him to his home after Gasland came out and in the end, Josh returned the favor to Moore attacking his film release, "Planet of the Humans"', calling for Michael Moore’s ‘shockingly misleading’ new doc to be taken down. Of course, in the process Fox gained major attention that is what he always seeks attention and the money that follows...

We need to TAKE OVER the political process. Representative Democracy represents whatever those elected or appointed choose. That is always different after any politician gets into office than when they run for office because "self interest" and because they have that freedom since "representatives" aren't delegates (people with predetermined mandates who are commissioned only until the mandate is complete or their commission withdrawn by the population that originally issued it). In a land where money (capital) is "political speech" capital is the state (and deep reservoirs of capital are deep state if there, indeed, is any deep state). Getting on the ballot is next to impossible without the support of capital so voters get, almost exclusively, choices between what benefits capital this way or that. Then there is the fact that six news conglomerates control almost all of the "information" (more accurately labeled propaganda) disseminated and treated as true, pertinent and complete. Those conglomerates ARE capital applied.

I love Josh Fox's simple, clear ideas: 1) People should be paid subsidies to ride the subway or a bike -- It makes sense economically, is technically feasible, and unlike fossil fuel subsidies, is socially desirable 2) We could EASILY switch to renewable energy as proven historically with our easy technology switches to cell phones, streamed music, etc. 3) The reason governments don't take climate action is because the fossil fuel industry became THE MOST powerful industry on earth and stopped it..

China won't have to. . China will contact India, the Far East (Philippines, Malaysia, etc) Africa (ALL Of Africa), Brazil.... (At least 6 Billion people) and say "Who wants an OPPORTUNITY?" . They will help ALL of those regions transition from Fossil Fuel with Energy systems, Vehicles, High speed rail infrastructure (passenger and freight) state of the art communication, and other projects including desert greening (THAT'S a good one!!) Those regions will move from "3rd world", to "1st world". Guess who's going the other way?

How about the (actual) request "please don't use power (especially Aircon) at peak times? . (EV owners said "no problem! I'll adjust my charging time to;off peak") . Then there's the report which documented the numerous times when the first "Tesla Virtual Power Plants" (Home Power walls connected to the grid) PREVENTED Brownouts during that crisis. (Google it) . Grid condition? It's quite simple. If it can power INDUSTRY during the day, there's PLENTY of capacity to charge EVs *overnight*... When industry is generally "turned off". . Now, if it CAN'T power industry during the day, that's NOT an "EV problem". That's Systemic failure to maintain the Grid.

I am a school librarian who works at 5 schools a week (1 school a day). I travel at least 15-20 miles round-trip each day during the school year. Although my city has a good public bussing system, not all their routes go past my schools. Biking to work for me would be exhausting, unless it's a motorcycle. Just my opinion here.

No. You have to change the rules of the game of getting elected. Until this happens, no real, lasting change is going to happen. What you say about tariffs is true. But you don't tell the whole story. Interview any UAW member and ask them if they support the tariff against Chinese ev imports. Perhaps a 100% tariff is too much. But some sort of tariff is likely called for for 3 reasons: 1.) The Chinese have a decade head start on us with this technology. If we let them flood the market with their probably superior products, there is a good chance the domestic auto industry will go bankrupt before it can change. 2.) Our power grid probably cannot handle a large percentage of EVs at this time. 3.) China has a huge advantage over us in labor costs. Just try to set up a union in China. Just try. The truth that you don't want to ever admit, professor Wolf, is that China is a profoundly un-free place. It now lives under one-man rule. And please try to keep in mind, Professor, what "free trade", over the last 30 years has got us. It got us a housing crisis that was so predictable that I predicted it myself over 10 years before it happened. It has led to millions of broken lives and destroyed communities, as decent paying jobs left our shores and ultimately ended up in China. The problem I have with economists is that they all seem wedded to one political agenda or another. And for this reason, I don't think any of them are all rhat rational.

It's not "getting elected" that's the primary issue. . The problem is that "Contributions" dictate policy. . Until you lose the "Lobby system" that will (largely) remain the case. . The problem? Those who benefit from that system are the same individuals who benefit from its existence. You're "unlikely " to get the required majority to "kill the goose which lays the golden egg" . Similarly, New potential candidates who may have the ideals, tenacity and Integrity to make that vote are "vetted" by those in the system and are thus unlikely to reach the position which allows them the opportunity. "1" "The Chinese have a decade start". Wrong. This is a multi decade issue which was started by "the West". . It was nothing to do with "free trade" . It WAS an attempt to exploit ("Capitalise") over China. . But not only China. By bringing the cheap components, eventually complete products home and charging "normal" prices, Companies (and Government?) Capitalised over the home consumer. . But . Back in China, they *increased* wages and living standards, invested to build infrastructure and removed huge numbers from poverty (work in progress, but moving in the right direction) Compare the US and Chinese Railway systems. . They had a "plan" and stuck to it without the 4 year "rinse , dismantle, repeat" political cycle. . The long term plan is the key. (Remember Tesla Master Plan 1, 2006?..... Ended with the phrase "Don't tell anyone"....... That worked!) . Side note. Saw a VERY interesting report today on "Inside China Business" (YTube) . US Expat, veteran, no BS. . Detailed the reliance on Chinese electronics in US "military systems" (weapons). . Hilarious! . Virtually no high tech US weapon, or weapon platform operates without Chinese tech. (We're talking up to and including Aircraft Carriers) . So, start a war with China and you'd better be quick! (Plus you'd better hope they didn't build in a "kill switch")

As long as we continue to rely on the two party system and electoral politics, little will change. The only difference between the two major political parties in the US is in their rhetoric. Republicans are more honest. Josh Fox provides numerous examples of how the Democrats are complicit in destroying the planet but then he proposes/advocates mass participation in electoral politics as a solution to the environmental disaster the two-party system has created. (Doing the same thing and expecting different results?) Meaningful and substantial change will only come if/when we revolutionize our undemocratic political system/s. We must have more major parties--parties that actually represent the interests of the 99%, our planet and other species. We must end private/corporate funding of political campaigns. We must institute term limits, ranked voting, candidate diversity--including CLASS, address class inequalities, and so on. We should stop deluding ourselves and stop wasting our time and energy on participation in the two-party system and electoral politics. I am not convinced that renewable energy can meet our current energy needs. We must radically reduce our current consumption and waste-production levels. If everyone on the planet consumed and produced waste at the rate of US-Americans, we would need 5.5 planets to sustain this level of consumption and waste production. I don't know where/how we are going to get the other 4.5.

Again, you said last week there were 200 EV manufacturers in China... they can't all be the cheapest... and they can't all be the best... Again, you said that because it's capitalism, they are in competition. ( consumer gets lower prices ) Of course, because it's capitalism, they are also exploiting their workers. Therefore, the tiny group of people at the TOP get all the benefits. So you want to support that tiny group and that exploitation? What you don't have is any proof of any actual quality...but you make the claim anyway. And all the developed economies protected their industries with tariffs and guarded their technological secrets. Also, none of the workers making those EV's can afford to buy them.
