In hard cash? Roughly $27 billion. In the form of direct financial assistance and loans however. Money which was likely already set aside anyway. The other figures touted in US media are asset based calculations. So if the loans are honoured the Ukrainians will be paying that back for over a century. The UK paid up on their lend lease debt in 2005. Anything the Ukrainians won’t pay back will be borrowed by the US government anyway so it won’t result in cuts for tax payer services. Don’t worry with the 2022 GDP of $25.5 trillion, the 2022 tax expenditure of $6.5 trillion the American people will be fine. The USA spent more money on school lunches in 2022 than on Ukraine.

@@redlizerad8268 It seems like you and many others have this idea that there was some treaty between the US and Russia that said NATO wouldn’t expand after the fall of the USSR but that never happened. In fact Russia was the one who broke a treaty with Ukraine. The Budapest Memorandum was a treaty where Ukraine gave up its nukes to Russia in exchange for no military aggression and complete sovereignty. Ukraine only wanted to join NATO after Russia broke this when they invaded Ukraine in 2014.

Following the war through American and UK media, I would argue that the war--now that the initial happy astonishment at how poorly prepared the Russian army was has worn off--is now being covered in a sober, more objective manner than it was in the first months of conflict. Lend Lease destroyed major European economies (UK especially with the gold reserves depleted entirely and the pound fixed exchange rate against the dollar) and made those nations dependent on the USA. Global war in the 20th century and the vassal states dependent on the USA for protection and trade has allowed the USA to grow economically. It’s what the world and the USA needs right now. Close all overseas USA military bases and remove all presence. Cease all overseas military deployments. Cease information sharing. Disband NATO. The USA annually almost pays more than the rest of the world combined on its military its perfectly safe. Find a way to reduce US influence on international markets to reduce the impact of events like Breton Woods so that nations can use alternative regional currencies for international trade rather than the dollar. Restrict mobility of Americans overseas. No more American students getting easy access to European universities. They have plenty of good ones to choose from in the USA. Let the Russians reap the Ukrainians and any other European nation standing in their way. Let the Chinese take what it wants from the South Pacific. I don’t recall those regions being part of the USA, so it’s not in the USA’s interests. Then the American people can get what they want by keeping their tax dollars and living in protected self sufficiency and the rest of the worlds smaller nations get their opportunity to forge their own path or die trying.
