Fun fact. Guess where this style of policing comes from where our own police treat us like illegal combatants on a battlefield in our own cities? If you said Israel you are right. 1:42 Weapons used to “deal with” Rafah? What an awful way to put that. The blind spot we in the US have for the cause of the unrest and violence in Palestine appears intentional, not ignorance. If you read unbiased histories of how Israel was created from 919-1947, how it declared itself a new sovereign nation in 1948 against the wishes of the massive majority surrounding them and after the partition deal had been rejected, you get the overwhelming sense that this was never going to result in anything BUT unending violence in the region and growing animosity among the people on all sides. It is frankly impossible that the British were unaware of this, which means it was intentional. All of this was predictable back in 1919 when the King-Crane Commission reported that 99% of the people polled in the region of Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon did not want a new Jewish ethno-state to be created in Palestine. Britain read the results, went ahead full steam anyway. So, until the US actually acknowledges this past and the harm that was intentionally inflicted on the Palestinian people, as well as the Jewish people that Britain was sending right into harms way to live in violence and being despised by all their neighbors forever, we will never actually be taking peace seriously. Our stance will be one of intentional ignorance with Christian goggles on where we just assume Israel has more or less existed right there for 3,500 years and evil pagans and Muslims keep kicking them out over and over until finally in 1948 they won their right to stay. It’s not even close to reality. But this view will guide our decisions as a country and lead to supporting “peace” which we define as “Israel gets whatever it wants by any means it wants and everyone else just admits and concedes that this is resolved.” There, “peace” can be had. The rest of the world having issues with genocidal acts by Israel is the only thing that puts the brakes on that “peace” being achieved. But it doesn’t change the true goal of the US to achieve that “peace” in the end. The tactic is to slowly and steadily get away with more and more, say the right things when the noise from onlookers hits a certain level, make fake concessions to have something you can point to as proof that you’re not just trying to achieve the fake “peace” where the only people who matter are Israelis, all the while solidifying every gain in that direction that people generally stop talking about because it becomes “normal.” Free Palestine. I’m an advocate for the one state where everyone gets to live wherever they want to because it requires the fewest concessions from both sides. I’ll support anything that leads to Palestinian people getting Israel out of their way and off their backs. No more “Israel getting everything = peace” as the definition.
