We speak with Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland about the U.S. response to Israel's brutal offensive on Gaza, which has killed over 32,000 Palestinians. Van Hollen expresses "strong frustration with the Biden administration," which "needs to do a lot more" to hold Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable. Defying Biden's warnings against a full-scale ground operation in Rafah, Netanyahu continues to promise an invasion of the city, where 1.4 million forcibly displaced people from across Gaza are sheltering. "At the end of the day, Prime Minister Netanyahu simply ignores the president of the United States, and so we need to do more to make Netanyahu accountable for our requests," says Van Hollen, who warns Biden against "getting dragged into the planning of a Rafah invasion" and becoming "complicit in Netanyahu's actions." The senator also discusses U.S. funding of UNRWA and Israeli leaders blocking aid for Gaza. "For goodness' sakes, lift the restrictions that are in place that are creating this humanitarian disaster in Gaza."

Indeed it would be most helpful if the Ukraine Aid package had not been tied in with the Israeli package. But that was the way the Biden Administration presented the bill as one hugh package. You can speculate about why the Administration did this. It would be great if the House could get it together and separate out the Ukraine Package and get it passed. The fact is the bill that the Senate passed needs to be completely pulled apart. As you heard there is a Package for aid to Gaza and isn't there an immigration piece tied in with this. Indeed the Biden Administration thought they could get away with sliding the Israeli aid through- but their Package was Way Too Heavy and so it has thankfully been bogged down. As you heard Sen. Van Hollen agrees with Sen. Welch - it is just he is taking a different approach to stop the Israeli bill.

This Senator with good intentions is, unfortunately, withdrawing to the official narrative. But what is surprising for someone who has humanitarian concerns, cannot understand that continuing supply weapons to Ukraine means more thousands of poor Ukrainian dead. I am sorry to say, but by not understanding that, his intelligence is not helping him. The senators and congressmen (and the brainwashed Americans) will never concede that Ukraine war results from NATO expansion to Russia borders. What I would like was Amy asking him or any of his colleagues, if Russia installs Military Bases, with lethal weapons, at Mexico or Cuba, which would be the USA answer. We all know the answer! So, I rejoice to listen to independent media, like Democracy Now, but there is always something not good that is inherent to American society.
