If you want to read about your culture well, first start with the Vedas. You will get them at vedrishi.com . That is the start and then you can go on and read the kmg mahabharat and valmiki Ramayan but remember, whenever there is a loophole in the story or contradictions, things are added there. What is true then? Whatever follows the Vedas is the truth.

The rise of Devdutt Pattnaik has also shown that Hindus around the world do crave to learn about their own heritage. However, Hindus have not tried to go mainstream with Hindu philosophy. We need authentic scholars teaching Hinduism properly and them have those individuals to take those ideas mainstream. Hindus need to be in pop culture and move outside the their walled in garden. Rajiv ji has inspired many to take this task on. I am happy to be in this journey.

Devdutta Patnaik exists and thrives because Indian Schools and Colleges don't teach Sanskrit as a compulsory subject (notwithstanding protests from secularists pretenders). We are also not taught Bhagvad Gita and Srimad Bhagvatam in schools and colleges! Everything cannot and should not be translated from Sanskrit to English, because Sanskrit is immeasurably a Higher Language and English can never do justice, retaining the root meaning, essence and true nature of the word and the sound!

Agree that we all should learn Sanskrit because it is one of the greatest language in the history of mankind along with Latin, Greek and Hebrew. But it is also a very complex and compound language with the highest level of aesthetics and difficult to learn for a layman like me. So until and unless we all start to learn Sanskrit it's better to translate all the masterpiece Sanskrit literary texts into English. This is the only way we can propagate the beauty and message of Sanskrit to the rest of the world. Personally, I have learned a lot from different English translations, interpretations and exegesis of Bhagavad Gita and Kautilya's Arthashastra (reading Bhagavad Gita and Kautilya's Arthashastra itself is a great educative experience).

I have been writing criticisms of Devdutt Patnaik now for almost five years. He has half knowledge of Dharmic literature. You know how dangerous it is. I challenged him many times for a debate on these issues. He never took up. He says for example Vedas have no values and no principles. He says Krishna was a bad hero and Duryodhan was a good villain. He says Rama was a misogynist. He says Buddha was copied by Dharma Philosophers. He follows Pollock's three dimensional philology very loyally. He is a great chela of Doniger. So and and so forth. I talked to a friend in Toronto who was so disappointed by two of his books on Hinduism. According to this friend, Pattanaik made several mistakes in interpreting Hinduism. I congratulate RM and Mr. Misra for exposing this charalatan. But this is just a beginning. If we want truth to be told about our books, more criticisms must be forthcoming. More videos have to be made to point out where exactly this charlatan makes errors and glorifies his own ignorance. He has support from blog sites like Score. Score in particular refused to publish my criticisms of this mis interpreter of our metaphysics, literature, philosophy, history and science. I hope more scholars like Mr. Misra will come out in public to expose the ignorance of Pattanaik.

Rajiv needs to post a "GOOD BOOKS - Recommended Reading" vs "BAD BOOKS - DO NOT READ" list for all of us, so we don't fall prey to good marketing by these authors. I just read "My Hanuman Chalisa" by Pattanaik and was going to read "My Gita" but then I saw this video. :o Many well-intentioned people reading to learn more about Indian/ Hindu heritage rely on recommendations by people like Rajiv, on Amazon best seller list/reviews, and on recognitions/honors like Padma Shri award (btw, can we lobby to get our gov't to STOP doling out Padma Shri awards to people like Sheldon Pollock who has distorted/misinterpreted our spiritual texts?!! Stop being so flattered by white people taking an interest in our culture/heritage - it only helps them build their brand and hence domain authority, which helps spread their lies to more people). Stop feeding their egos and financing their lies. We need to build Rajiv's brand and raise his profile by better marketing - for example, BUY RAJIV's BOOKS ON AMAZON (more sales/reviews will put him in TOP slots for the keywords "Hinduism" "India" etc). Also, perhaps, Rajiv can give reviews on books on amazon that he doesn't like and then tell us all so we can go and UPVOTE his review and leave our own so that book does not SELL on amazon and no one buys it - afterall, many pple rely on reviews before purchasing). Can do the opposite for books he does like/recommends so they get great reviews and sell well! It's all about out-MARKETING the other guy!!!

She totally agreed with the guy with 95% accuracy. This has confirmed that devdatta patnaik is a poor human being. He's Hater of Our community and He's also a very foolish guy for someone writing about our religion. Tamil Nadu has seen innumerable saints from the so called "shudra / dalit " community. They are still very much revered and worshipped. People are still emotionally connected to them for the past 1400 years. Devdutt knows no history. Infact in Tamil history its the Brahmins who sung in praise of those devotees of shiva. Sundarar an 8th century mystical poet says he is the devotee of Neelakandan, the potter, Neelakandan the bard, nandhanar, thirukurippu thondar, a dobi, kannappar a hunter, and so on, who were the devotees of Shiva. So Sundarar, the shaivite brahmin says he is the devotee of devotees. Enough of this Brahmin blame game.

In the beginning, whoever was good in one skill, they took up that. Later on, it became birth based classification. It's all human nature to be blamed. As the time passes, people became more discriminatory. It's same with other religions too. Take Islam, for example - Shias, Sunnis may mingle but they don't accept each other. They don't see Ahmedians as Muslims. Off late, Sufi saints are bashed too. Or take Christianity as example - Roman Catholics vs Protestants; Syrian Christians; Pentecostal etc etc. Every religion has its own castes/divisions etc. People became comfortable with their "own" people and later on it became completely discriminatory. Sometimes violent. If we have to blame one thing - it's human nature.

Let me start by saying I was initially impressed by DDP when I saw him on TV. I had listened to My Gita as an AudioBook and did feel some concepts and ideas to be illogical. When I heard Business Sutra, I felt that it was a force-fit of concepts to suit a business-oriented narrative. Last year during the Lock Downs, I actually made efforts to join his Facebook Live; but the entire setup was toxic in terms of Hindutva and Brahmin bashing. As a reflex towards blocking negativity, I stopped following him on social media. I have seen him define you as a US-based savior and the others around as your minions - which is completely disgraceful. Some of the points you have made in terms of the Gopikas, Gandhari- Kunti -Maadri are actually more sensible and do deserve my appreciation. Hopefully, you can get more absurdity exposed in future.

One of the main reasons for such people to gain importance in the society is the absence of erudite scholars in Sanskrit who are required To teach children in schools. The second reason is we have lost our way (due to western influence) and have embraced materialism As our main goal. For someone who is a brahmin himself, the critic does not seem to be aware of the different Brahmin subcastes of South India. This seems to be an inherent bias combined with a knowledge deficit. For your kind information, Nityanand Misra, Patnaiks are actually Brahmins. They are Niyogi Brahmins similar to Kayastha Brahmins etc. So, Devdutt Patnaik is not a non-Brahmin demonstrating anti-Brahminism. Secondly, I have read his books. Before reading them, I was at no point misled that he is an expert on scriptures. He clearly says in his foreword that he has distilled his knowledge and understanding of the scriptures from the stories he learnt from his own grandfather who is a temple priest and other elders of his family. Thirdly, I am a physician and Devdutt Patnaik, I hear, is also a doctor. In his books, I have found that he tries to reinterpret ancient Hindu scriptures through the prism of modern scientific understanding of human psychology. In my opinion, he has done a fairly good job and maybe that is why, his works are palatable to modern readers, who do not believe Hindu religion was ever fixed or dogmatic in its approach. Fourth, philosophical works are never classified as fiction or non-fiction binary. Would you consider "MEDITATIONS" by Marcus Aurelius or Bertrand Russell or Voltaire's works as fiction or non-fiction? Fifth, Malhotra brings up Adishankaracharya & Nagarjunacharya but does not seem to realise that at the time these great philosophers had started their movements, they had reinterpreted the Hindu scriptures themselves, went around the country debating with other philosophers and convincing them and these philosophies have been rejuvenated with mild changes since then. Sixth, not every great philosopher in the Hindu religion has arisen from a Parampara or tradition with Sadhanas and a certificate from some institute. Can you show me one God man in India who can display his certificate proving his training and knowledge? How many institutes do you know in the history of India where such diplomas etc were given? How many such institutes have actually witnessed and supervised the training of our great Hindu philosophers?

Sir why don't you expose him on National stage? He has been polluting Indian Ethos very skillfully for a long time! I'm really scared of losing actual knowledge of our Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads

Karan Shukla ~ Simply because our entire Bharatiya system, since the last 400 years, be it political or administrative or media have been brainwashed in to secularism (which is a christian idea and then we have the muslim appeasment that went on for years) that people like Rajiv have been permanently banned, sidelined and un-invited from ever going on national TV or national stage such as literary festivals by powerful gatekeepers branding him as a communal sanghi. Rajiv have been trying to do that for decades, but has no help from anyone who have power or money. Billionaire business people like the Ambanis are supporting Pattnaik. Tatas are supporting western theologians who stole ideas from Dharma and representing them back to Bharat as their own. Hindu leaders like our beloved Modi have their hands tied up in their back and not able to do much. I hope you get the idea how odds are stacked up against Sanantanis ( or Hindus).

Kudala_Mangalooru I agree to your point but there are more Congressis supporting him than BJP. There are more than 30 millions of followers of him who are Congress Supporters. Now Modiji can't straightaway demolish Pattnaik because every step he has to take taking in consideration of constitution and freedom of speech! He is working backside but can't thrash him on his face! Congress supports him openly. RSS and BJP are against him strictly!

DP's support may be an attempt by the anti-cultural foreign forces, however it's helping waking Bhartiya's up to our own culture's nuances & finding the right things out ! Good for us :-) ... Let us now read our Ramayan, Mahabharat, Ved, Upanishads, Puran, Geeta, Bhagwat, etc., learn Sanskrit & get closer to our roots by ourselves. To start with, works from Gita Press, Bharti Vidya Bhavan, Ramakrishna Mission are the ones to be trusted.

I think I heard this devdutt pattnaik guy first on NDTV. I just ignored him thinking that he is just another ignorant writer. I did find his talks lacking depth and ignorant (was not really being judgmental at that time) Clearly not knowledgeable i felt. If I recall in the video, he talked about ramayana and mahabharata as myths. He got the very fact of ithihasas and mythology wrong. I just skipped the video and just ignored him. After all I was right about him. This is insane.

I was reading Devdutt Pattanaik's book "Hindu Trinity" and post reading 100 pages I found out that this guy is simply fooling around with the readers. And now I saw you video. Thanks a lot Rajiv ji and the Mr Nityanand. I will expose this writer amongst my friends on all social platforms. Again thanks a lot and keep on guiding us.

Famous saying in Marathi is ध cha म| nako karu. So Interchaging words can have have dangerous interpretation. , Raghunathrao had sent a message to Sumer Singh Gardi to fetch Narayanrao using the Marathi word dharaa (धरा) or 'hold' (actual phrase in Marathi - " नारायणरावांना धरा"/"Narayanrao-ana dhara"). This message was intercepted by his wife Anandibai who changed a single letter to make it read as maaraa (मारा) or 'kill' .

I am blocked on Facebook by this man as I've been questioning his baseless deductions or trying to force fit themes into Hindu epics. He's very insecure & can't withstand questions or reasoned debate.
