That middle column being held up with 5-6 courses of leaning block and rotted rounds looks like a death trap. Might be time to purchase a few lolly columns and set them up on a couple of steel wheels as a pier. Cole, I said this in the video showing the Tyvek, you really should get some Termidor SC and spray that place down to kill the carpenter ants and termites. Everything being exposed will make your life much easier.

Prayers for rain. I raised my boys in a house that was 101 years old when we moved in 15 years later my boys are old enough to move out I love that house it stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter with an old floor heater it was stilted up four feet off the ground. I live in Southern California so when there was a little earthquake that house would rock gently back and forth but never fell off the stilts it was wonderful memories.

Neither Daddy Corn Star nor Cole The Corn Star mentioned that we were to hit the "thumbs up button. {see how trained we are becoming}. Okay, so I was raised by an old German Carpenter/Painter from a small town in Minnesota. Those old nails Cole was finding looked very familiar to me. He had some real whoppers. He taught me many useful skills that I still use today at 69 years old. Much better than my lazy brother ever did !!!

Hey Cole .... They used native timber for the frame. That is to say they milled the framing from oaks cut down to clear the site. The interior millwork was imported: northern or yellow pine; exotic wood that had to be freighted in. Funny how that is exactly backwards today. I worked on a mansion in Des Moines about 50 years ago, where we had to pre-drill all the nail holes in the oak studs for that very reason. Keep up the good work.

Cole, maybe once or twice a week is better than every day. Quality beats quantity.

Cole, I will say it again--you need to brace up the roof on your porch before it collapses on you.Cutting out the floor joists will leave only the slanted block pillars to hold up the roof.Even though you were scaring me while you were kicking out the band joists, I loved the video. Thanks.

In order for the pillars to tip over, it would also have to tear the roof off at the same time.

august not true at all. There is a hinge point halfway up where the wood column meets the stone, if the stone starts to move any direction it will pivot there and as it tips further the weight of the porch will push it that much farther over until it collapses

It’s true. Pressure treated lumber is pretty much unavailable right now where I live about 10 hours from Coles farm

I weep over all that oak, yea save everything not rotten, good for all types of stuff and that center column needs some support a strong wind might topple it. Have you check the columns for rot, they match your house and might be better saved, just thinking out loud

Hey Cole Just letting you know some of that wood if it’s real oak could still be worth money if it doesn’t have any Rot
