I'm not very well versed in the technical aspects of things but I was convinced this game used some form of ray tracing in the cinematic mode but you're right, it just trades resolution for performance. Makes sense looking back. I wonder how the lighting looks so compelling though.

Modern graphical techniques do not destroy image quality or clarity, poor implementations of them do which is the same for older graphical techniques like screen space reflections, cubemaps, screen space shadows, etc. Different games will have different quality implementations. For example, TAA does a great job in this game and God of War Ragnarok but it is horrible in Halo Infinite, Software Lumen is great in Fortnite and Black Myth Wukong, but it has issues in Silent Hill 2, and Hardware Ray Tracing is great in Spider-Man but horrible in Resident Evil 4.

I think people being passionate with how they feel a remake falls short of representing the spirit of the original is only a testament to Demon's Souls cult classic legacy. It's not even like those that dislike the remake make up some large majority anyway.

​@CJojo_13_ it's just annoying and asinine when people are served a delicious cake of a remake and call it a shit pie for some eyebrow raising reasons. Does the game have the same color grading as the original? No, but the art direction is still there, still respected, still amazing, and given a very needed and deserved face lift with some heavily upgraded graphics. Is the music the exact same? No, but that's part of what makes it a remake. Yeah maiden astrea isn't even remotely the same song as it was in the original, but it's certainly a much more impressive and enjoyable song that the original was. Plus it serves as more of a garl vinland theme anyways which is who you're really fighting and who the theme should've always been about since he's the one protecting something and you're the one taking/harming something. It's just that when a remake/remaster is far more than what the original fans ever even asked for or thought they would get, and they still complain as if it's horrible, just go kick rocks guys. If that's how they want to behave then the remaster isn't shitty. They're just shitty fans.

And as with the music, the old music had that old charm yes, if they hadn't changed it, it just wouldn't fit with the new graphics. As graphically impressive as this game is, I think I still prefer the way the original game looks. It’s mostly the art style and atmosphere, the remake made a lot of the medieval architecture more Victorian, and changed a lot of enemy designs to be more generic and gross (not in the good way). That made the gross stuff in the original less special. It feels like the identity was lost in translation. The music was made to be more like Dark Souls, basically becoming epic remixes. It wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the that songs were completely changed along with iconic parts being completely gone (rip melody to Phalanx) and the fact you can’t use the original soundtrack Plus, they completely ruined Tower of Latria, which was my favorite area in the game and one of my favorite areas in any game I’ve played. Gameplay wise, the remake improves a lot from the original. But it’s at the cost of what made the so unique and interesting.

This remake was crazy good. It honestly is better looking than Elden ring. From the graphics comparisons they were similar, but demon’s souls was darker and more gritty with colors that popped while Elden ring just looked like an overly saturated washed out image like most modern games. I mean it looked amazing, but demons souls looks more like a gritty game like it should. Game devs take note. The human eye becomes less sensitive to colors when you over stimulate your color receptors. So in demons souls when something is colorful on screen it becomes the focus and its color is more stimulating to the human brain making the color pop more and honestly making a game look better. The color grading of a game is an art form and should be seen as one.

Yes. Demon’s Souls remake devs just needed to focus on the graphics and the game is like 10x smaller than Elden Ring.
