I never actually finished Demon Souls, but I never played it until about 5 years ago in the first place. I think I quit at about the time you fight the flame-demon or whatever it was. I have finished Dark Souls 1, most of 2, all of 3, and got Sekiro 100% done. So this remake has a lot of potential to keep my interest so I can actually finish a version of Demon Souls. This is another good reason for me to actually get a PS5, as I skipped the PS4 (have a PS3 though). Since Bloodborne actually bored me pretty immediately when I played it somewhat recently on a friend's system, I'm hoping that I won't have the same issue with this remake.

I remember when I got Demon's Souls. I randomly stumbled upon some 480p preview footage of a game I had never seen before, but it looked AWESOME, the dark gritty world, thoughtfully paced action combat, I was all about it. I ordered the Japanese version because it released 8 months before the NA version, the translations were rough (but funny), and other than what I saw in that brief video I didn't know what to expect. Demon's Souls beat me down, over and over again. I learned, I overcame, and got beat down a lot more along the way, but it was so damn rewarding unlocking that new zone, or killing that scary boss. Nobody I knew was aware of the game at the time, so it felt like uncharted territory and I loved it. While the sense of mystery and discovery won't be the same the second time, I'm looking forward to going back to Demon's Souls and showing the Adjudicator, Allant, and all the other bosses that slapped me around a thing or two I've learned in the past 11 years.

I honestly don't think he has a foot fetish at all. Out of all the female characters in the series only like 3 or 4 of them are bare foot. If characters like the Plain Doll or Arianna that have obvious sex appeal had been barefoot he'd be onto something. Bare feet is a rather common literary device that is meant to symbolize innocence and youth. In Pricilla's case this suits her as she is depicted as kind and childlike. Miyazaki is known for this kind of visual storytelling.

The friend who got me into the Soulsborne series played them all with me backwards. When we got to Demon's Souls though, it was a blind playthrough for both of us. It was insanely cool running OG Souls blind after a couple hundred hours in the other games. It stands the rest of time, and OH MAN I can't wait for the remake!

When I was deciding what to buy between an Xbox or ps3, I read about this game being released and thought it looked amazing. I even bought the US version because it hadn’t been released in the U.K. at that point. So glad I did because it’s still probably my favourite game of all time. It makes me wonder how it wasn’t a huge hit right away if it had that much of an impact on me just from reading about it! Demon Souls, aside its linear approach, it has a good learning curve, and more immersion. Dark Souls 1 has a shitty learning curve, confuse map design, annoying stuff that makes you restart the game like consuming a Fire Keeper Soul (the game never tells you that would be better off giving to the keeper instead of consuming it), also is really hard for mages, because it gives you no better spells until mid to end game. Dark Souls 2 never played. Dark Souls 3 is too flashy, has no immersion.

I've played through DeS probably dozens of times and it's one of my favorite games I've ever played, but if there are things they "fix" (Stockpile Thomas duping) without addressing the reason those were valuable (limited crystal lizard spawns? Who thought of that?), we're going to have some real problems. I think losing levels to fall damage as a phantom or red signs would be regarded unfavorably now, and I can't imagine what sort of nonsense an Old Monk could get into today, but I honestly appreciate a lot of DeS cheese in a way I never would with other games. Maybe my fear is that devs will buy too much into the hype of the series' difficulty and remove a lot of the silliness. I liked stormruler knocking people off edges, scraping spear invasions, having a broken early weapon like the Crescent Falchion if someone knows where to look. There were so many goofy elements to the first game in an excellent series that were later scrapped in the name of realism or challenge and I just hope it doesn't lose its charm in a remake. In short, the game has got a heart of gold and I don't want it taken.

My main use for the stockpile dupe was so I could pvp without having to farm grass. I would only use like 5 grasses per encounter, unless the other person was spamming them. Then I just went crazy with them and kept the fight going until one of ran out. Good fun

My favourite weapon along with the Hiltless (or the Uchigatana 'til you find the Hiltless). I also miss the gender exclusive armour sets, and even that the unisex sets, while some look pretty much the same (eg: Gloom and Brushwood), others look slightly different (eg: Mirdan, Chainmail) and while others totally different (eg: Fluted, Plate), whereas on Dark Souls, armour and germents look pretty much the same on both genders.

For example, having to go through the interior of the fortress looking for arrows to put on the ballista, having to pay attention to the Boss patterns and stuff... I think they could make one of the most if not the most original and cool boos fights of the Souls games. It really comes down to how they do it. If it has to be exactly the same as it was in the original, then it would be a waated opportunity

Humans corrupted those miracles with forbidden soul magic that created undead immortal zombies that eventually go crazy. Because souls are the source of god's power, he came to earth as a demon to reclaim all the souls to give birth to a new age that isn't corrupted. Then an undead guy killed him, which made the world stop working entirely, ushering in an age of darkness. BTW this ending ties into Dark Souls perfectly. But for legal reasons, they're "entirely" different games. Once the undead killed god, that plunged the world into darkness and created the lord soul. Dragons, gods, lightning, age of fire, yada yada yada...I'm sure you know how it starts. But it's possible you play as the same undead that killed the Old One, the same undead who lost the lord soul (or had it stolen) and managed to only reclaim a small amount, as the furtive pygmy. It would be neat to see confirmation of the theory that the lord soul is the abandoned power of the guilty undead who plunged the world into darkness, but like I said it probably won't happen.

Having played the game when it first came out and loved it, re: healing items, you have to remember that this was a transitional era. A lot of people were like me: we hoard EVERYTHING, and would try over to NOT use consumables, for fear that we'd need them later. Best example is one of my buddies playing Silent Hill 2, felt like he was near the final boss, so repeatedly tried to kill it with board-with-nail, thinking it wasn't the last boss; finally beats it, and the credits roll. So I think the hope was that people would notice healing items are easy to get and not worry as much about hoarding or save scumming, but many didn't notice.

@@NobodySoldier Maybe it's Sony's way of "rebooting" the franchise. They own the IP, there is a void that Dark Souls left when the series ended. So yes, I think the game will have new content based on unfinished assets and new ideas entirely, maybe leading them into making a proper sequel. Sony Japan Studios worked on both Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, and they are working on this remake. Maybe they'll take the series from there.

@@animeguitarguy I see your point but I'd still argue the tower knight example is a poor one just due to the mechanics of how light works in general and how far it lighting has come in video games since 2009. Perhaps they could put a partially destroyed roof over the arena to dampen the lighting effects. I'd wait until we see some place like the Valley of Defilement 2-2 or Tower of Latria 2-2 to determine if it's dark enough. The church where you fight the Fool's Idol looks to be dimmer than I remember and the stained glass windows look less vibrantly colored, to use another reference from the trailer. Also we know that trailers, especially early ones often turn out to be inaccurate with things like color palette and lighting and get exaggerated so it looks flashier on screen to attract people. This is all subject to change but if you feel it's that much of an issue, don't stop talking about it. Personally I'd want to see a person attempt to make the lighting darker with the screen shots they can pull and have a side by side, but as of now I am pretty content with that aspect. Not super thrilled with the Flamelurker redesign. I definitely prefer the older one but at least he doesn't appear to just be a yellow-white blob anymore. Even in the cut scene, although he was cool and impressive, the lighting effects ruined alot of the detail and made it hard to make out.

My Souls journey, in order of what I played first: 1) Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition (made it to Firelink Shrine and tried like hell to progress down past the skellies without realizing you could go UP, gave up on the series for about a few years) 2) Dark Souls 3 (stopped playing at Soul of a Cinder, didn't want it to end.) 3) Dark Souls Remastered - Loved every second of it (I learned I was supposed to try and Ring a Bell and that the first bell was UP, liked it much more this time) 4) Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin (playing this right now, early stages) love it, don't care what people say 5) Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Just make key items weigh 0 and item burden isn't a problem for the core game. It was there to make sure you couldn't tank too many hits with good armor and heal 500 health bars in PVP while still picking up all the sellable loot. Because items were actually worth a fair amount of souls in DeS. The real thing they need to fix is the scraping spear and baby nail. Dude behind a tower shield pokes at you with a spear to break all your equipment then poisons you to death while staying just out of reach. Then again, the PVP was never balanced at all in that game.

My first playthrough was after the servers had been shut down, so I was using the DNS workaround server with like 5 people online max. I remember specifically getting invaded in the tower of Latria. I was already having a rough time and I just walked past the guy pretending like I didn't even see him because I knew I would lose in a fight. This guy just took the lead and helped me all the way to the boss. It was honestly a lot of fun, and getting to that big ballista crossbow wall and hoping I didn't fuck it up and lose my new ally was a thrillride. I played the game once way back before the PS4 was even out and I didn't even make it to the first boss. Seeing that save on there surprised me because I honestly didn't remember anything about it. Only finished the game after playing every Fromsoft title released after it multiple times. With that perspective, going back to this jank after adapting to faster paced and more responsive combat was a nightmare at first. The UI is also something that needs a lot of work. I couldn't tell you what any of the symbols represent when looking at stats, they're nonsense and I couldn't get used to it.
