All things work together for good, for those that love God and are called according to his purpose. Basically the chosen ones. How can we tell who the chosen ones are when the televangelists of today preach Christ crucified for the redeeming of man, while living in a home that could be sold and the proceeds able to feed millions of people. The chosen are those who seek his face. His face is light, and light is always used as another word for truth. So seek the truth. Jesus said I am the way, the "TRUTH" and the life... no man comes to the father but through me. Now Christ is saying I AM the TRUTH. I believe that the only one who walked the earth that was "the One" was Christ. If only to believe in him transforms a man into a spiritual being. I myself can not walk on water, or heal the sick, or feed 5000 people with two loaves of bread a few fishes...but I can believe. Solomon also believed and actually worked magick,Solomonic magick...so who was Solomon calling spiritually for his binding of demons. Why was Solomon allowed this rite. He was deemed to be the most wise of any man, so I doubt he would go against the Almighty of this entire universe and beyond. So if God granted him power over evil then evil is more in bondage than free willed. Evil or what we call evil is really just the ones to test man...they're agents of God unwillingly or unknowingly. God knows the beginning from the end(or vice-versa) and if that is the case, then everything has already been decided. Its his plan after ALL. Trick the trickster...the oppositioner.

@mattfinleylive ..... how is saying that Christian proselytizing on a channel that regularly deals with esotericism and occultism in multiple faiths is potentially the wrong audience? It's.... kind of obvious to me that people who want to learn about magic(k) and occultism are not necessarily going to be thrilled or interested in the idea that summoning demons is actually a thing God would be all for bc nothing happens without His say-so. It's an interesting concept, sure, but most people here aren't going to suddenly convert because of it. Because we're studying occultism.

It's always ironic that the witch hunters primarily accused commoners in the rural countryside of consorting with demons, when in reality the people who are trying to contact demons are those like John Dee, nobles with power, wealth and connections to church and crown whom the witch hunters can't touch even if they tried.

@@unbroken1010 John Dee was a very devout man who wanted to consort with angels, daemons (messanger of a god) of the God. Many disagreed with ihim that he was accessing angels and said he was instead consorting with darker spirits, which is also why he lost his initial university position. So he had much more reason to be suspected of contacting demons, and was suspected, and did admit to it (albeit he said and thought it was angels), yet he was imprisoned once but never executed.

Yeah. Also a lot of midwives were targeted as well, accused of of having slain infants yet in the mothers womb and hindering men performing the sexual act and woman conceiving. As midwives had knowledge on aborticides and birth control. (It's important to note that it was only considered abortion past the Quickening (when the infant first moves) but anything before that wasn't considered abortion and was completely fine for a while).

Coming from learning more about the Spanish Conquistadors take over of central and south America, many priests were brought along to convert "indians" to Christianity. Though most condemned tribal leaders to burn at the stake. This was around the early 1500s. What i find disturbing about this is how the priests forced tribal leaders to convert to Christianity. They threatened to burn them at the stake if they refused but were still condemned to die by hanging after converting.

Another very well researched and informative video (without being dry!). What you were saying bout how the working class and peasantry, mainly the women, were subject to demonisation, persecution, torture and execution on a scale much much higher than the upper classes reminds me of an article I read by Mark Laskey called ‘rebellion of the damned’, it’s well worth reading. he talks about how the “‘flying on brooms” stuff was actually due to hallucinagenic folk potions (some mix of acconite, belladonna, wolfsbane and hashish/opium or something along those lines) that were smeared on broomshandles and taken intravaginally during certain traditional folk-religious celebration (I think the church made up some nonsense that this potion was made up of mushed up baby parts)... sorry it’s very late and I can’t recall it that clearly, but I thought it was a really interesting article, this vid has made me want to reread it. This channel is consistently good, I really appreciate the work you lot put in!

Justin, this is an absolute masterpiece of scholarship. I want to make a couple of points. The video rightly so begins with a perception, 2nd hand, of the mystic rites of a "pagan" belief. And this idea of practice as it can be divided between the Holy and the demonic is just nonsense. Augustine is engaging in special pleading to create heresiology. We can talk about iconography in the church, the church at one point realizing that the muslims had a point sought to get rid of all but the simplist icons in the chuch, twice, and they failed. While we could advance a number of reasons why it failed the simplist is that the iconography is part of the magick of the orthodox rites. When these icons were removed the experiential component of christian worship felt lower than with the icons. The orthodoxy created very careful wording to make it seem that people werent actually praying to idols, but this is simply special pleading. Philosophically speaking when a adherant to religion begins to bisect "us" and "them" or the ordination of some virtual space, 7th heaven or ninth layer of hell, such that there is hierarchy in accordance of some political system, then we see the promotion of individuals to divine status and their nemesis to demons. The best example i kniw of is Nabo the vizier of Marduk is promoted to go as Nabos fortunes rise. In the case of Yeshua, as his divinity is promoted so follow the saints. The problem with these systems is they dont last, very few christians kniw who Marduk and Nabo are, though they probably know Nabo Kadurri usur by some false name the Jews gave him. We have in the text of the bible what people want to believe about the past, not the actual past. We have in the doctrine of orthodoxy what people want to believe about a Nazarian, not the theology of the Nazarian. Its all conflated superstition. Second. I think that in the 13th to 16th century things in Europe were not going as desired, not only was the late medieval period marked by the black death, but also the not-so-little little ice age. It gave a chance for authorities to consolidate power and become more doctrinal. We see a systematization arising for example first and last names, concepts of marriage are solidifying and the authority of the church. As you mentioned the first university formed, there would be the tying of medicine to the collegiate system and decline of folk medicine. The priesthood becomes celebate. European society is gradually undergoing a restructuring and certain aspects once widely accepted become taboo. When we talk about religious practices i can make the point that everything is pagan in some sense, and if we use objective criteria idolatry abounds in every practice, there ample evidence of "us"-versus-"them"-ism everywhere. So the witch hunts of that period are sinply the soup du jour. I mean if we went by icons of magic, select anyone out based on their selected trinkets, images, and fetishes. When thinks start to go way bad around 1275 heading into 1315, @nd things did not improve, the baltic sea froze over in 1314, the greenland colony collapsed in 1405. You need villians to blame so you look for "thems" among you to persecute. There is a rudimentary survival mechanism at play, i mean if food production is collapsing and black death spreads in popukated areas you really dont need healers and women, you need a reduction in popukation until the system can be reworked.

There's one prop from the X-Files series that has stayed with me: the "I Want To Believe" poster on the wall of Mulder's office (I hope I spelled his name right). It has stayed with me because I, too, would like to believe; to believe in something, anything. When I was very young I was a Christian and believed all of that Christian stuff, however, I can't do it anymore. I've found that one cannot intellectually will oneself to believe in anything, it requires an epiphany of sorts. Belief is a matter for the emotions, it grows out of you and is not something that you can take from the world and then internalise. I don't think that the ability to believe, once it has left you, can be resurrected by the conscious mind. It requires a lightning bolt from the outside straight into your emotional core. But I suspect that I'm not expressing myself very well, so I'll close with my confession that while I believe in death, the "Angel of Death" is just a curious anomaly among many others. More's the pity.

Ive always been fascinated by different religions and how they relate to one another. I come from a tiny town (population 800) in Louisiana. We had no post office or stores but had a church on every road. I was raised pentecostal then assembly of God. We had 3 Baptist, 2 Methodist, and 3 Church of Christ. Plus a pentecostal and an assembly of God church. As a child I wondered how there could be so many varying churches but 1 God. Thats when I found out about other religions and beliefs. I came to the conclusion that all these religions are connected. I looked at religion as a mountain. Theres different ways to climb a mountain but it all has the same destination, God.

IDK about Iceland but well into the medieval & in the case of the South Slavs even modern periods, soul-projecting shamans and folk healers remained widely accepted. In Montenegro they were sometimes seen as tricking the devil while there and throughout in the South Slavic sphere there’s often little mention of God & they’re seen as the descendants of benevolent storm dragons or the binding demons in their bodies, even some high medieval Serbian Christian monarchs are said to have the powers of an evil spirit though whether it’s by descent from such a spirit or the binding of one within their bodies is unclear, though after that shamanic powers from demons & dragons becomes mostly a decentralized rural belief/superstition

I have a copy of the "Malouse Malefactors." But I find it a very difficult book to read. The print is so very, very small. But, as I understand it, early conspiracy theories against early Christians that they were involved in a secret society, had secret rituals in which they worshiped an evil God, had weird and taboo sex, during ritualized orgies, during which they had sex with and killed children, and drank their blood, were later used against Jews, Pagans, and rival Christians, especially during the Inquisitional the many witch hunts. More recently, those same accusations emerged in the 19890s "satanic Panic." And currently, these same charges are being leveled against leading Democrats according to the Q-Annon theory. If history does not repeat itself, it at least rhymes, and some myths just will not die.

If demons can lie and say that they are angels, what is to stop them from pretending to be Jesus/God?

Were there really practicing witches or was it fabrication?

There were certainly folks magic users and 'cunning folk' - were there witches making pacts with the devil to overturn Christianity? Very, very unlikely.

Understanding the Lord and power. Binah and chokmah. I loved Poe too. A nice way to get to know the “dark “ arts , I guess for lack of a better term. Im definitely a great fan of yours. I’ll definitely contribute. Im more of a Golden Dawn fan that a Crowley enthusiast. You cover pretty much every spectrum of the arcane. You’re wise and I give you thanks 🙏 for giving a opportunity for like minded people.
