Lori probably had both mental illness (delusional disorder) and a personality disorder. Personality disorders are the result of childhood trauma. All combined to make her dangerously delusional vulnerable and receptive to a sheltered naive sociopathic male like Chad.

Lori murdered Charles because she wanted his $1 million life insurance policy. However, Charles had made Kay the beneficiary so Lori and Chad decided to murder Tylee and JJ for their social security checks. They also decided to murder Tammy in order to receive the $430k life insurance payouts. Lastly, they also attempted to murder Brandon Boudreaux for his life insurance money. However, the bullet that Alex fired at him missed by a few inches thankfully. I think that Lori and Chad would've continued to murder their families for life insurance payouts until they were put in jail. I'm guessing that Lori's parents were next in line to get life insurance policies.

I guess what doesn’t make sense to me is they play this character to each other, but they don’t pretend to play a character in my opinion, they truly are in this world that’s not reality. But then on the other hand, they are completely grounded in reality by the manipulation the murders the money.
