Chins drop and eyes widen as scorching heat rolls across the parking lot from what had been a grease fire in a non-stick skillet.
Seconds earlier, Fire Inspector Wes Van Bavel and Fire Marshall Dale Kelly had showed how to use a lid to smother the flames if a pot catches fire on a kitchen stove.

Almost happened to me today. Thank god I don't have anything above my stove.. The flames didnt spread to anything because we caught it just in time and in the act of idiotic desperation, I took the pitcher of iced tea out of my fridge and poured the entire thing over it and it luckily went out.. The smoke is the scariest part though.. I had to sit outside with all of my pets for 2 hours. So scary I have a higher respect for fire fighters now.

Next time, cook in a pan with a lid nearby it puts out the fire almost instantly. You have to think fast tho.

I almost had a fire recently. I turned on the wrong element and put the pan lid on it behind the pan on the element I always use. I was so lucky I was in the kitchen and I herd it and caught it just in time. Lid shattered when I tried to use it to cook. Still feel a bit traumatized and very stupid.

Too many young kids distracting everyone with their lil brattyness. Little kids don't understand the danger anyway, so just bring kids over maybe 6 and up to these things. I know when I was 11, fire scared the shit out of me. Took me at least 2 years to start getting over a fire that was 6-7 houses down from mine, that 2 elderly people died in. I woke up smelling smoke pretty strong, and totally freaked me out.

I understood the dangers quite early on... Being allowed to "play with fire" as a kid was probably a questionable grandparenting move, later a questionable parenting move.. However, i've never caused a fire, have prevented many, people seem to be aware i have some limited control of fire and i'm pretty good at building them whilst avoiding collateral damage.. I remember creating a wax fire, all molten, in an old metal oven roasting dish, with balled up tissue as a wick.. I knew to smother it to put it out, the flames got quite high, my grandmother and mum decided in their infinite wisdom to lob water on it... Didn't go so well, slight fireball and scorch marks on the ceiling... LOL! The rate at which temperature increases still catches me off guard and surprises me, even though i'm more than aware of it so... Unless you absolutely know what you're doing, do NOT fuck around with fire. If you do, don't do it in your damn home!

@@canislatrans8285 When I was about 4 years old a heater in my bedroom started a small fire in the corner of my room. Luckily my Dad noticed a "light smoke odor" and came in and was able to put it out before it did any damage or spread to anything. After that I was terrified to sleep in that room alone for quite a while. Note, these were the days before smoke detectors and before fire detection systems in residences, and before fire extinguishers were found in residencies.

When the inside of My Family's stove sparked on fire and while My Sister and Mom was freaked out, I ran over to grab the fire extinguisher but luckily I the fire drowned out after the oven got shut again but there was a lot of foggy smoke and bad smell which oddly didn't set off any smoke alarm off which is good because I heard that sometimes if the smoke alarm goes off, the fire alarm system throughout the building will go off. This happened during November 2017.

What he was saying is 100% right I just had a fire in my kitchen today luckily i managed to turn it off using a wet towel... What shocked me is how fast the kitchens extractor started melting + the black smoke, now i have to repaint my kitchen ... I am really disappointed with ariston products they should provide at least some form of protection for appliances that are few cm away from the stove

@colty7764
@colty7764 4 жыл бұрын
So basically (the way I understand it), a flashover is a rapid expansion of the flames due to extreme heat from the initial fire (on the stove) turning much of the flammable material in the rest of the kitchen into highly flammable gasses (the dark smoke), which ignites and quickly expands the fire.

@Mike943905 There is an old wifes tale about pouring milk on a grease fire. I suggest not even trying this method. A major componet in milk is water. The best thing is to keep a lid to smother the fire. Even using a chemical extinguisher can spread the fire if improperly used. For example not standing at least 15ft (5 meters) from the fire when using the suspression agent. If you have a fire ext make sure it is UL or ULC listed for use on grease fires.

Usually happens when they don’t know what they’re doing when they’re cooking french fries with oil and grease there’s a certain temperature you have to only keep the burning grease If it goes over 650 or 400 it could possibly catch fire people love to boil their stuffed turkey on thanksgiving inside the stove that’s a bad idea always have a fire extinguisher and one made for grease fires 🔥

Annnnnd this is why thermostatically controlled deep fryers are better in kitchens lol extremely safe compared to a pan and they cut themselves out if they fault/overheat. Been using them for years, never had an issue. I'd NEVER use a pan for frying 😯🔥

Gencturk92 yes there's so many manufacturers been recalling appliances the past few years or promising to replace them but a lot of the time it goes unnoticed or forgotten about until the inevitable happens like Grenfell and all the other bad/fatal fires I've read about due to faulty appliances the past few years 😟

only thing is, the fire in grenfell tower started deliberately. ISIS put a timer bomb in the fridge, it blew up in the middle of the night when everyone would be at home sleeping and the media is trying to cover it up to make it look like it was a mechanical failure.

This happened to me today. I was heating up oil thinking nothing could go wrong. I look over and there was fire. I calmly grabbed water and dumbed it on the pot. In a split second i ducked down. I looked up and the kitchen was full of fire. 2 seconds later of it was gone. The only damages were breaking the microwave and the ceiling was black but can be wiped. I’m so happy i didn’t burn down the house. I could’ve killed my family and my dogs. Very good life lesson.

What is the temperature of the radiant heat 6' away from that rooms exit door at the floor level where a victim might be? If the room was hit by a Heavy SPRAY of water through a window and instantly soaked all the interior material, what would be the radiant heat temperature at the floor in the hallway? What would be the radiant heat temperature from the "Steam" created by the large amount of water, at the floor? How long would a flame be "Pushed" through the door by the spray before the flame was extinguished by the large amount of water? The answers will go a long way towards deciding which is better, waiting an eternity for firemen to find the victim while the fire rages and the effect on the victim if the room is hit by a large blast of water before the rescue.
@Kopihucky
@Kopihucky 7 жыл бұрын
you would kill the victim
@JB91710
@JB91710 7 жыл бұрын
Kopihucky You say that without explaining why? Without telling me and others why eliminating the threat is not better than letting the fire rage while the firemen walk blindly around an unfamiliar house trying to find a victim when they have no idea where it is? If you don't stop the fire Now, the victim is dead a lot faster than exposing them to some humidity. It's plain old common sense which doesn't spill forward from a fire college just because it is a school. Everything I have experienced in the work force for over 50 years is that, I don't care how smart humans are, they Seldom get anything right . They are constantly making mistakes and changing how things should work. The fire service is constantly changing techniques to make fire fighting so complicated that the average fire fighter thinks it compares to rocket science and they had better just do as they are told. If it's burning, extinguish it Now and Then look for victims. Victims that will thank you for stopping what was trying to kill them rather than joining them.

I didn't read your essay, but its simple. Life comes first, property comes second. If you attack the fire the wrong way or the wrong side the steam conversion of the water will literally cook your victim. When searching a known occupied structure, you position yourself between the victim and the fire so as to drive the fire away from them.

Most cellphone and smartphone chargers have a built in temerature limit switch that shuts it off if it becomes too hot to operate safely. This allows the charger to cool down before it resets itself and resumes normal operation. A smart procedure to follow when your battery charger becomes hot is to unplug it and allow it to cool off for at least one hour before plugging it back in and using it again.
