I’m wayyyyyyyyy outside the age group who may be doing this. This is the weirdest understanding of demure I’ve ever heard. Like, not being seen or taking pics / videos of yourself or participating online would be the most demure you could be. I was in secondary school in the 80s (talk about weird), so no shade here. "Demure" is simply a Gen Z/Gen Alpha aesthetic that is understated, and like the video said "a heteronormative reconfiguration". It's importance is that it's redefining casual and semi-casual wear in the mid 2020's to finally form an abrupt difference in fashion eras. The last big fashion era was 2015 to 2024. Now it will be 2024-future. Demure is a rejection of wild and daring style, much like the 1980's completely clawed back the wild fashion of the 1970's. "If I saw someone in bright retro neon of the Covid era right now, that wouldn't be very Demure. It would give me 'the ick' and be giving desperate..."
