Ironically I had a sb feed and a much closer position until the RATM tour manager kicked me out of that spot, muttering something about network TV news. I was not to be dissuaded so I headed up into the crowd in the way back. I had a 5pm deadline and missed Killing In The Name Of.

The text is said to be written as a critique of brit pop bands that played in Detroit in the late 1960s. But it soon got a more political meaning.

Rare magic indeed! Conventional wisdom argues over The Ramones vs The Sex Pistols, but with regards to music conventional wisdom is always wrong. Someone raised the point that punk was born in 1968 in Detroit and after extensive research I must concede this point. I was familiar with the song from the BOC version, but never knew the cultural significance of the MC5 until a few years back. Guess the establishment was able to at least partially bury the history of these guys that looked like hippies, but had fucking guns and knew how to use them. Punk music is ALWAYS a political statement. To shy away from that fact is cowardice. MC5 were the real deal. Rock on brother Wayne. 🤟🧙♂🤟
