I love your terracotta pot, which has got me thinking that I will attempt to make holes in some shallow pots I have. You showed such patience in your repot Lynn, that they will soon settle and be very happy. Covid, they think it's all over! Stay safe and keep warm.

Thank you Margaret, I have had them a few years now they were made and sold at Burnham Orchid Nursery. Needless to say they do not bounce and I only have 2 or 3 left now.. Stay safe ❤️

Hi Lyn what a great root system your little cuthbursoniae hybrids have. I've lost mines, killed 4 or 5 and decided not to use any more, but still love them and their blooms are fantastically long lasting. Thanks for sharing and happy growing 😀!

I have lost a few too Mary. These babies are the result of a larger hybrid dying at the base not long after I got it so I cut the canes off cut them into inch long sections in between the nodes and laid them on a bed of moss in a propagator and kept them moist. They nearly all put out babies and I have been just letting their roots grow on for the past year and more now. Thanks for watching.

@@lynnsmith9397 I guess I’m tempted to try again in the future if I find a good plant. Thanks for the reply!

Sometimes they come in from Ecuagenera with big long roots like that, but I would say that is definitely not the norm. It seems they very much enjoyed the big, shallow container to grow in. I'm at a loss growing them, I have two that are doing "OK" and two that just keeled over. Two came in at the same time and were potted the exact same way. One lived, one died. Ordered a replacement for the one that died, potted it in loose sphagnum (instead of small bark), it died the same way (looked good until one day it didn't).

Have to say Michael I have never had any from Ecuagenera with big long roots only ever had ones that needed nursing back to health. They are very picky plants but once they are happy they are amazing. This was my first foray into cane propagation with a Dendrobium and they loved it. The hybrid was rotting at the base and I wanted it so that is the route I went down. This is the first time I have potted them in just moss to give it a go. Most are potted in small bark, chopped sphagnum, charcoal and perlite. I just love the flowers especially the hybrids.

Hi, How often do you fertilize cuthbertsonii ? Thanks for your growing tips. I am going to watch more of your videos.

Aww, how do you do it? My one and only cuthbertsonii x sulawese was with me about 2 years then it dropped all its leaves, so I repotted in your shredded moss mixture and it rotted completely 🙄. You seem to keep yours quite moist so where did I go wrong 🤷‍♀️ You mentioned in a comment to me that you might be selling some Hartmannii in the future so if you decide to sell any of these too please let me know, it seems easy when you do it 😂. How's Toby? I hope he's a bit better now 🤞

Carole they are a bit finicky sometimes. My hybrid was going downhill and rotting at the base, so I decided to propagate the canes to see if it would work, this is the result. Been almost 2 years to get to this stage but roots are phenomenal now. I let mine dry out before i water them, they prefer it. This is the first time I have potted them on into just a moss mix so we shall see what happens. Yes I have re-potted the Sarcochilus now and a couple of them split so I potted them up separately. I will not even consider doing it until spring when I know they have recovered but will certainly contact you again if all is well. These days it will be the only way we can get hold of them. Toby is as good as he can be now thank you, until he is unhappy with his life we will keep going.

2 questions about Dendrobium cuthbertsonii please. What temperature range do you keep your plants and why do you spray with Cal Mag?

Hi Pat, I keep them in the intermediate house which does not drop below 12C in the winter. I do have 3 species in the cool house as they seem to grow better in there but it is said that they can b e grown cool - warm but they must have a wet dry cycle and not be left too. Dry for too long. I use the CalMag when I am re-potting just to give the roots a boost it’s a very weak solution.
