Love all your videos!! I too used to love having fish, since I was a little girl maybe I started having fish when I was 8 years old. My first fish were Guppies, then as an adult I got cicklids ( Kribensis) I saw them raise family of fish babies, escorting them out of the nest and defending them from other fish! Then I got a salt water tank with live rocks. Corals, invertebrates, shrimps and all those colourful fish. I will spare you the details. For me it's a life long love! Then my husband said if we want to travel you would have to get rid of the fish we cannot go anywhere. So I said ok! I got rid of the fish but could not sell the tank 53 gallons. We didn't travel that much,😏 So now I have about 75 orchids and I use my tank as a mini greenhouse. That was something I noticed, a lot of people interested in Orchids also like keeping aquariums. Have a good day!

Hi Danny, 1) I want to thank you for all the love, patient, dedication you give for us to learn and participate with your Orchids!!! 2) I understand your feelings for the aquarium and your dream to have again one and now I want to give you something. I used to have a 1000 Liter sea fish and coral tank, where I never changed the water and almost never fed the ca 200-150 animals inside, and obviously didn't have a filter. I had to give up them for health reasons (allergies). If you ever start again an aquarium, start it form thinking about the water, what do you have to do to balance the water. Put in live sand, keep the aquarium in dark and put strong pumps to circulate the water and control the skimmer to make sure that the water values are OK. After 6 weeks add a lot of live rocks (this is the most expensive part). Always in the total dark, wait 2 months and control during this time the water values every week. If they don't get better, then add water pumps to make the water circulate stronger. If after 2 months the values are OK, start to add slowly lights and 1 fish. At this point you have to start to think what the fish is eating and be sure that he finds it in the sand or on the rocks, this is why you have to buy a very good live rock which came from the ocean. Once you see that a fish gets thinner, buy a second fish of the same species, and in most of the cases they start to eate by pure competition. Anyway, never add fishes which you have to fed, you cannot, or it is very, very hard to enter the life-cycle of fishes. Stay outside, create a healthy envirement for them, make sure that the temperature is automatically adjusted and the evvaporeted water is added and then you can go for 4 weeks in holydays and they will be still alive when you come back home. Again, thank you for all the love to give us with your orchids!

Hi, Danny! You're my orchid guru- I've learned so much from you and since I started watching your videos, my confidence in orchid care has risen enough that my collection went from my first two phals...to now 17! I go around to commercial businesses and 'rescue' orchids in distress and nurse them. So far, I've had great success with the exception of one. Crown rot was the culprit and she was just too far gone, unfortunately. I recently rescued my first denrobium phalaenopsis from a greenhouse. I was shocked at the state of her, considering the local reputation of this business being top notch. She was critical- horribly dehydrated, her blooms had what seemed sunburn and were brown around the edges and she was loose in her container without sufficient medium and to make matters worse, she was toppled over on no one had bothered to prop her back up and someone had cut one of her flower spikes so close to the leaves that one of the leaves had been snipped 3/4s of the way and was hanging by a thread...She also had deep dark brown patches of some kind of erosion on her canes. I snatched her up, demanded a huge discount because of the state of her and got to work on her as soon as I got home. 3 weeks later, and she's a completely new orchid- happy, sprouting a new cane, the ridges from dehydration are disappearing as are the dark patches and even her blooms have partially healed. The color of the blooms are deeper and some of the edges have filled in are smoother instead of appearing wavy and dry. I wouldn't have been able to bring her (or any of the others I've rescued) back without all your excellent advice and inspiration, so I thank you tremendously! All the best to you!

Dear Miss Dani , those are necrotic spots you see on the leaves are unfortunately a form of Fusarium infection - Fusarium proliferatum. It is related yet different and not as fatal as Fusarium Wilt. It usually is related to bad media or plant stress. I had it only my Aerangis Elro. And it will appear on other parts of the leaves. The only way I was able to stop it was using a Systemic Non Copper Fungicide. Copper is very toxic to Dendrobiums , pets , and does build up in plant tissues over time , which will kill the plant. I just used the ones I found in home improvement stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. The active ingredient is Tebuconazole. The new leaves are not pock marked anymore. Best of luck to you !

I live in a tropical island ( Puerto Rico) but in the coast area where is really dry and I have my dendrobiums in full sun exposure, some in pots, some mounted on palm trees and they are always doing great. Until they are stablished I water them a lot but when they have a good root system attached to the palm or in the pot I water them ocasionally in the week with no problems of drying out or shriveling. I give them full sun like for the vandas, arachnis, and for some cattleyas, not all because some mini catts are less sun tolerant or maybe for me. But the point is that dendrobiums need a lot sun exposure because they grow faster and flower better. Of course, you'll need ti aclimate them first, slowly.

I bought this rescue plant today and figured what it was from her videos...now I've seen like 4 of the videos, and she hasn't gone into what fertilizer? same as the paleneanopsis? I'm in Miami, so not knowing anything about this plant...I see she's using semi hydrophonics (lica same thing?), because they like moisture, can I use staghnum moss? I don't have palm trees, so they will remain in pot outdoors on my patio, and I see they like sunshine from your remarks above so will have to move them to a sunnier place, gradually but because it was so dehydrated I immersed it in water and the plant came alive. I guess I should cut the dead canes also...what am I missing? She's got so many videos, I love it but right now need all the info I can get for this plant...can you fill me in, I need to repot this in a day or two...

Danny, Danny, oh how I loved this video, it's almost like watching your older videos. I love, love, LOVVVVE the updates and the project videos more than the scientific ones. It relaxes me and teaches me a lot. Thank you so much for it and thanks for the story. Very endearing! I too would like to know how Milo is and also, I have asked in the past when are you going to do an outdoor video and your pot painting video? Hope we get to see that one day soon. Keep doing what you are doing. Stay true to YOURSELF, we love what you do.... Have a blessed weekend, Miss Orchid Girl :))))))

Hi Dani, I just watched this video & wanted to respond to your feelings about your experiences with your aquarium. I also used to keep fish & really loved the hobby. However, although I enjoyed the process, the more I learned about the needs of the fish & the quality of the water etc, the more time and money I was spending. I then had to go away from home. I had someone to look after them & they did their best but this was when my fish suffered. I came back & couldn't save them. I couldn't bear to start again & although I still miss them, I'm not sure I will ever have fish again. I don't feel bad because I knew I had done my best and the outsome was out of my control. I just wanted to say, try not to feel guilty or bad. You looked after then very well when you could & although it must have been hard to do you made a good decision in the end.I love your videos and your attention to detail. ( I have learned loads from you.) I hate to think you are still feeling bad about this. You are doing a great job of caring for your orchids & teaching us from your experiences. xxxxx

I have an aquarium horror story myself. I have always been into aquariums. When we moved to AR we set up 2 aquariums, a 150 gal freshwater tank filled with parrot fish and an 80 gal reef tank filled with live coral and exotic salt water fish. ( We are both chemists so we are familiar with what it takes to keep water chemistry stable.) After about 5 years we had an ice storm that was accompanied with a widespread power outage. After several days I was resigned to the fact that we had lost everything in both tanks. But we also had exotic birds - a breeding pair of blue front amazons, 2 blue & gold macaws, 2 African grays, and an umbrella cockatoo. They were housed in a 500 sq ft solarium built onto the house. With no heat I began to panic. We moved all the cages into the center of the house where it was warmest and covered them. But without lights and in the dark they would not eat. The ice lasted for about 10 days. The birds did OK but I told my husband I would not go through that again and demanded that we get a whole house generator. I often have nightmares about the birds. I often dream that they are starving and it is my fault. I don't have nightmares about the aquariums. We got rid of the large 150 gal. and after some time and effort we were able to reset up and the reef tank. So far so good. But I find orchids to also be a lot of work and study. So far not as much trauma.

OMG Danny! I used to have fish too, when I was 10 years old (over 30 fish at one point!) and I still have crazy, untrue nightmares that I neglected to change the water in the tanks or the water is either overflowing or nearing empty. And the fish are suffering 😩😱 I feel your pain. Having an aquarium really leaves a mark on our minds and makes us worry that we are doing a good job taking care of them. It's a lot of work indeed! But hey, if we're having guilt dreams, i take it to mean that we care a lot and are passionate about something, be it fish, plants, or people right? 😊 Anyway, it's great to hear your plants are continuing to improve and look forward to more updates! 🌺

Dani, I have a newly acquired Dendrobium chrystoxum that had 3 beautiful new growths this year, and each growth had some of those spots you're seeing on yours. I thought it was sun spots bc it did get some direct sunlight, so I moved it into lesser light and just watched to see if they spread. Sure enough, they did, so I figured it must be some sort of infection. I didn't want to play around, so I cut off as many of the existing spots as I could without cutting away too much new growth, then sprayed once with Physan 20. So far, so good...no more new spots!

Love Dendrobium Phalaenopsis!Totally agree about the bright light for the Den Phals - I kept mine outside in a shady spot last summer, and they lost a lot of leafs! During winter I had them with the Cattleyas in the southern window, and kept them there through summer. They receive direct sunlight, grew much better this year, and are all in spike/bud as of today :) I also have a Den bigibbum 'Anzac Spirit' - it never did too well for me, and then I changed it to semi hydro a while ago. It comes along quite well, and already sits steadily rooted in the pot after only a couple of months. Big success with that one, I think I never managed to keep up with its thirst for "moisture, not wetness" when it sat in bark ("Moisture is the essence of wetness" - Derek Zoolander ;-) Happy growing!

I have a Dendrobium Smilea (I'm not sure I spelled that correctly). I purchased her from an orchid society I think 2 years ago. The first year, I had no idea what I was doing and watered her year round. Then I found your videos and discovered that they like to go dormant from basically Halloween until Valentines Day. So, that's what I did. She really grew well this past year, but still no blooms. It's almost time to let her go dormant again. Any ideas? I have her in bright light, keep her moist, feed her, talk nice to her, and everything else I can think of. She is one of the few orchids I still have growing in bark. I would love to see her bloom as the picture that I have seen of the bloom is amazing.

Dani, my parents had a huge aquarium when I was growing up, and I had my own goldfish in my room in large tank. Even now, just a few days ago actually, I still have nightmares about keeping fish. In my dreams, I've been gone for years, my fish are overcrowded and there's barely any water. I also dream that I have several very huuuuge aquariums that are empty and I have to fill them and put fish in them before they die. It's so stressful. You aren't the only one! I think these dreams haunt a lot of people who keep or kept aquariums. Our minds just prepare us for the worst, silly brains.

Love this video. I had one den and one oncidium in semi hydro and they did poorly to me until I watched your new semi video and changed them into shorter cup. They started growing. Thanks for the new info. One question. I had one den phal that I left outside early this year during a weekend trip. It started snowing when I was not home and 2 canes looked really bad when I got home. It started new growths right after the season came/ the only concerns I have now are the two damaged canes begin to dry from the top. They are still green at the bottom but I am sure they will turn to dry soon. Should I cut them?
