I sang this song a thousand times but only recently have I really heard it. It’s a scorching toxic relationship song that happens every day. A song about keeping a public facade but quietly dying inside. “Silly of me to go around And brag about the love I found And say “you’re the best!” But I can’t tell the rest (of the real story!) Silly of me to tell them all that “every night and day you call” But you could care less. That is a painful lyric! Under one of the most beautiful singers that ever made a record. Whoever wrote this song, either went through this, or is telling the story of someone who did . A tragic masterpiece. This is the music our generation had the pleasure of hearing. So therapeutic. It made us feel we weren’t alone.

She gets very emotional when she sings this song . I seen another video.. not sure when it was but she is older. She was in tears singing this song. I’m 48 and this is one song that has stuck with me throughout all these years. I always thought she was so beautiful with an amazing voice to match .

@@anthonytaylor7928calm down slugger. You seem triggered LMAO but the OP is correct she don't get the credit she deserves. She only have 2 #1 not 4. You're probably thinking of songs that should of been #1's. What about Awards? (She got 4 Grammy's ALL from gospel which isn't a big selling genre) but nothinh for R/B. Is in conversations about singers that hit high notes? Booking concerts/tours? Singing at award shows? I could go on but I think you get my point... I think she would have done more #'s if Charles Stephney didn't die right b4 her 1st album This is Niecy dropped (just my opinion)

WOW! I am just seeing this. From here it looked like she was having a “real moment “, then I felt like wow this is like a Broadway scene, but once she began talking and asking the audience had we ever been Silly, I finally got that this was just her awesome and creative way of delivering this song. Very touching delivery! I felt that at 2:00 am while enjoying her music and Minnie Riperton’s music.
