I got denied boarding for my flight back from Eastern Quebec, and ended up having to make a decision - risk waiting for the next flight, or pay a fortune for an earlier one.

“Refused to give or grant something that was requested or desired.” He was denied boarding in the sense that he wanted to take a flight that the contract of carriage would have stated he did not have an absolute right to- an airline has the option to reschedule a passenger in the event of weather. Had he wanted to board the flight without having paid for a ticket, he would have also been “denied boarding,” but it’s hardly what would be generally considered when using the term. In other words, he wasn’t denied boarding, he was bumped.

I'm not really sure why you describe your experience as "denied boarding" because it really wasn't. Nevertheless, very interesting video and hoping you were able to see some of the old part of Quebec City; it really is delightful. I, too, had great difficulty getting an Uber there in early September. It took me about an hour to get one. They cost about half the cab fare into old Quebec City. Keep up the good work.

Noel - That's really interesting that they took the folks from the canceled flights and put them all on your flight... bumping you to another airline/flight. Usually it's the customer who had the canceled flight that has to wait.... Now this way instead of having one unhappy customer (from the flight that was canceled), they have two.

Very true, the "original people" are already angry because their flight is cancelled because of weather. Now you made a NEW set of customers angry. Makes no sense.
@NameMustBeDisplayed
@NameMustBeDisplayed 3 жыл бұрын
This is a fascinating reply to me. Often in small Canadian communities, people understand that airlines can't control weather and days with no flights are part of their lives. They airlines weren't angering multiple customers, they were operating as a queue. Anyway this is not being "denied boarding," this is being bumped because of a hurricane. They are very different things with entirely different connotations. It's frankly disrespectful to the small airlines to claim you were denied boarding when you were not.
@brendancosgrove6431
@brendancosgrove6431 3 жыл бұрын
@@NameMustBeDisplayed If that's common practice with Canadian airlines in rural communities, I stand corrected and apologize. That being said, I've never heard of that being the policy on any airline here in the states, and, quite frankly, worldwide. That said, given the nature of the traffic (more like a bus than anything else), I suppose I get why they do it that way.

Yeah this makes no sense, then again it was in Quebec where their still trying to seperate from Canada in EVERY way except they still want all the billions in equalization payments from other provinces to pay them to survive. Their latest stunt is their trying to make speaking English illegal with high charges!(keep in mind it's already a place that was very strict about not allowing English around for decades but now actually want to be able to charge and fine and maybe jail anyone speaking English)

I'm so happy the smaller airlines still operate the Dash-8-300 and -100 as well. I remember both variants flying me to and from my hometown when we visited there for each summer since I was very young, so I was ashamed when Air Canada Jazz finally retired the Dash-8-100 and are planning to retire the -300. There's somehting about the smaller variants that isn't as special on the larger Dash-8-400.

I came across this looking for aviation vids in CYZV. Good call on going with PAL, they've been one of the only dependable companies in the region, and their service is always great. I loved seeing the footage of my town through the eyes of someone travelling. Fun facts, at 9:28, that port is one of Canada's busiest due to the regional iron and aluminium industries, and that aluminium smelting plant is actually the largest in North America. During the Cold War, only 13 km from the airport, was CFS Moisie, an air base built in the 50's which provided radar intelligence for the SAGE defense network, and was only decommissoned around the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Safe travels!

Noel didn't know the wasp's nest he poked. The two provinces have uneasy relations over cultural differences and mineral resources in the northern Labrador peninsula, and an unresolved border dispute. If Quebec ever gains independence, things tend to become really complicated in that region. Curiously, now Quebec wants to get out of Canada, while Newfoundland was once independent (sort of) but chose to join Canada.

Hi Noel, I flew from Montreal via Quebec City to Sept Iles. I know you like planes, but in flying back, you missed one of Canada's most amazing trains. The railway from Sept Iles to Schefferville. It is one of the most scenic lines, and the people are very nice. The kind train driver even let me ride on the locomotive. Saw Ospreys, wolves and bears. The train stops at Mai for 1 hour, while the railway staff leave the passengers on the train, while they go for a meal and a break. The train is a mixed train (part freight wagons on the front and part passenger coaches on the rear). You will need to book the only hotel in Schefferville as they only have 20 rooms. After breakfast, you catch the train back to Sept Iles. Recommended you stay overnight in Sept Iles on both the outward and return legs, so you don't miss your flights. The train journey is at least 12 hours each way, if it is running to time. Tshiuetin Railway, which operate the train, have offices in Sept Iles, where you can buy souvenirs. Regards, Vic from London, England.

My dad was part of the development of that line for QNS&L I used to hear about him at work at mile this or that or the other. I grew up in an iron ore haze from the massive volumes of first raw, then pelletized ore bring dumped into Lakers.
@vicsams4431
@vicsams4431 2 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasmappin3847 WOW ! The QNS&L is a phenomenal railway. 35,000 ton ore trains. The heaviest we have in Britain is the Mendip stone trains that weigh only 2,200 tons. The gradient up from Sept Iles is quite steep too. Trains roll downhill loaded, and are pulled back uphill empty. The Tshiuetin staff were brilliant, and I was offered a ride on the F40 locomotive from Emeril Junction to Esker. It was a good cultural exchange. I was in a group of 11 railwaymen visiting the line from Canada, America, Britain. Germany and the Netherlands. We Brits were amazed to hear the local staff talk of temperatures as low as -63C and 80ft deep snowdrifts. They were equally amazed that some railways in London, England have a train every 45 seconds at 100 mph, and Eurostar travels at 186 mph (a mile every 19 seconds) and some TGVs do 200 mph (a mile every 18 seconds), unlike the AMTRAK Acela that only does 150 mph through one station and averages 70 mph. I really enjoy Canada, and I have visited every province / territory with a passenger railroad, including the Yukon. Indeed, I have travelled on every railroad line in Canada except the route to Churchill, Manitoba (which is still on my Bucket List).

Whist waiting for our transfer coach pick up for our return journey (spain/bhx) the bus failed to pick us up as it got caught in the festival traffic, had to walk away from the town centre a mile or so to get a taxi, missed our flight to (bhx) was later put on a flight to manchester some eight hours later, < our car was parked at birmingham> explained this and was told a taxi would take us to b¬ham ,of course nobody else knew about it so we had to organise and pay ourselves , the phone lines were very busy the next few days , compensation ,fares refunded and all costs refunded three months later. I'm old enough to remember when it was called seven islands, not Sept Iles. You are so right about the terrifying intense weather that can make its way into the gulf. Many was the time of the young boy we would dash to the docks because so many fishermen boats had had to run into the port of setir to avoid very very dangerous hurricane like weather and we're giving away their lobsters and crab and all sorts of shellfish for like pennies.

Bombardier is a Quebec company and highly subsidized by the Provincial and Federal governments. There are probably incentives for the airlines to fly Dash 8s.

Bombardier no longer owns the commercial aircraft manufacturing businesses it once did. The Dash 8 programme is now owned by a company out of BC while the CRJ business is owned by Mitsubishi. The minority stake in the CS Programme/A220 is now held by Airbus.

Pleased to see the changes to the airport for Quebec City! We were stunned by the primitive airport in 2004. We had to carry our bags to the plane, and put them on a trolley which they then pushed onto the plane! 🙄 Oyr Australian home city of less than 500, 000 people had a MUCH more modern airport!
