@@SnowAndCurt Why not visit the Itaipu Binacional power plant these days? It was the largest hydroelectric plant in the world until the opening of the Three Gorges in China, but until today Itaipu is the hydroelectric plant with the highest installed capacity in the world (i.e. produces more energy even though it is smaller). It's gigantic and the interiors are sci-fi like, there are tours inside the plant's facilities. It is binational because it is on the border between Brazil and Paraguay and supplies energy to both countries.

Suggestion: I know you're nature-loving folks, but when you come back to Brazil you should instead look for urban tourism: Brazilian gastronomy, culture, art, and history are amazing and the urbanism is unique and futuristic. I suggest you start from the very south and visit all state capitals going northwards until you reach the northern coast, as each state is its own little country with different races, cultures, food, history and often a couple different dialects of the Portuguese language. You might actually enjoy it more.
