That grevel road to the farm and creek was a great part. Good thing it was a little wet against the fabric. It looked like it was a beautiful Grevel road. Made a new freind at the farm. WHS Otherwise known as Job creation scheme. When first introduced in the 19th century, it served a noble cause. Today it is one of the largest costs in industry. Both in delays and outright expense. And no end in sight. The more people involved. The more ludicrous it gets. Perpetual stupidity into oblivion. Punctuated with short bursts of manual endeavour. Think of a budget. Add WHS. Double it. In the last 25 years I have done some weird site inductions. Some taking an entire day. Sat in numerous classrooms. And held many safety certificates. The nearly 20 years before that nothing. How did I survive.
@RoadTrainAdventures
@RoadTrainAdventures Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. What I see happens is, somebody gets this job and creates some rules. They then have to keep creating new rules or they don't need his position anymore. This keeps happening over and over until the rules being introduced are just over the top but this justifies his position being kept alive. On many sites, just to get on the back of my trailers they have to bring over a platform for me to walk up some stairs. The fact that I have a ladder on the fuel tank is no good to them. I've waited hours once for this platform to be brought over because I can't reach something in the middle of the trailer. Crazy stuff.
@lindsaybrown7357
@lindsaybrown7357 Жыл бұрын
So true. After a working life of 40 odd years, I can't get out of it soon enough due to the burden of all this additional overhead. In fact for some sites I work on, I have to pay for third party businesses to ensure I am "safe".
@RoadTrainAdventures
@RoadTrainAdventures Жыл бұрын
It's all a joke but we're not laughing.
@castrain1419
@castrain1419 Жыл бұрын
Working in both side of the industry over the years I can tell you WHS is two fold, protect the workers and protecting the company. While it may cost to implement and run its still cheaper then paying for injuries or worse. That's why companies go to extremes at times with WHS because they are protecting the company, and also themselves as Managers can be directly liable. Unfortunately as well the common sense of the worker is almost no existing now, hence why there are so many rules created. Most of us would think not to stick you hand in a moving piece of machinery that can grab and crush you but you would be surprised how many do.
@davetaylor4741
@davetaylor4741 Жыл бұрын
@@castrain1419 I agree with one bit. Very little to do with worker safety. In fact in my experience of over 40 years in heavy industry. Often causes more problems than it solves. It is as you say an arse covering body now. Since the Yanks started suing anyone and everyone for anything. The rest of the world joined in. Now every dick head thinks they can get rich from a work injury. And the legal profession lap it up. The politicians who have never done a day's work don't legislate against it. And so owners, managers and contractors alike. All suffer these absurd rules. Common sense has gone. If any were left we wouldn't be wasting all day filling out stupid forms. And watching mindless videos. On the sites I ran the induction was. G' day mate. How you going. No body sued me. No issues other than minor injuries. And a lot of blokes happy not to have to go through the bullshit. And no Union crap.
