There is no gender pay gap in women’s tennis. It’s a business. The WTA negotiated the contracts with sponsors and broadcast media. Don’t like it then play on the men’s tour, complain to the WTA, or start your own tennis tour and negotiate contracts.

Should female and male tennis players be paid equally? No. Harsh? Perhaps, but it’s the truth. Why should they be paid the same? On what basis? Three things: Men play much longer than women. Women play a maximum of 3 sets but in contrast men play a maximum of 5, do the math. On average, men sell more tickets and thus make more revenue for the sport. With the exception of Serena Williams, how many real top draw female tennis athletes are there? The ATP, on the other hand, has plenty of top class players and we’re talking the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djoković, Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka, Juan Martin del Potro … you name it. These players draw more fans and thus sell more tickets and make more money for the game than women. Even players like for example Nick Kygrios, Grigor Dimitrov, John Isner and Kevin Anderson, they could still probably draw more numbers than most of the female players. The quality of men’s games are much better than that of the women’s games. The rivalries along with the power, pace, aggression and intensity in the men’s games are much greater and as a result, the quality of the men’s games are also much greater than that of women’s games. So I repeat, no … women should not be paid the same than men in tennis or most other sports in fact.

Denis fails to understand that he and his girlfriend are entertainers, much like actors and musicians. Entertainers get paid more based on how much they entertain. People will pay more for a ticket to watch someone who entertains them more.

Can the women hit it as hard as men? Nope, the MPH at the beginning proves that. Do they have as many sets? Nope. Why would you get paid the same for less and lower quality work? As much as I love shapovalov as a tennis player. I gotta disagree with him on this one. Men play 5 sets instead of 3 in grand slams, (increased court time) larger crowds means more revenue generated. This means that men should be payed more.

Tennis players ultimately are entertainers, thus their values are gauged strictly by their commercial values: how much money they can help the organizers make. And Denis, the way you've been competing, you need to worry about your own income... How many first round exits have you had so far in the past 15 months? Focus on your game, be successful first, then you can help lift up others.

So. Let's also forget that the average women's match is halved from a the men's. You have to play more sets in men's tennis where 3 is the minimum vs the womens 3 is the maximum. So until all matches are played under the same rules and need the same stamina and endurance, sorry but no they do not deserve the same when they work a lot less
