Dune expert here: The first book has a time jump, they could give it a Godfather part one, part two treatment. I’m very comfortable with that.

Not like Star Wars! you mean we'll get an epic made for adults? finally!.

I just hope that there are movie theaters still by the time this film is set to arrive.

As Denis Villeneuve explained in an interview his connection with the book's silver cover, which was actually the exact same cover of the book I read as well, I understood that he read the same french edition in Canada as I did in France, which actually did split the first book in 2 parts. Dune* and then Dune**. That's probably your explanation right there.

The first book itself is divided into three parts. At the end of the second part, there is a 5 year gap to the final part of the book. So, I am assuming that is when the movie will end, so when they finally film the sequel, you could feel that 5 year gap.

I am looking forward to this movie but I'm slightly concerned that so much will be cut out. If the films are two and a half to three hours there may be a chance of a good adaption but if they are only Standard length then I'm not so sure.
@reneepeck80944 жыл бұрын
The leaked script is around 220 pages, to put that into perspective Blade Runner 2049 was around 200 and that was 2h 45m long.

I guess Dennis read the book and thought to himself:"God, i want to make a movie out of that first half"

he is a big fan of the book, he understands this quite really well. he even made a documentary in his younger days, where he gave a lot of examples and elements from this book

I thought I had read they were planning sequels. But I suppose they have to make it wrap up reasonably well because there are never guarantees on sequels are there (well not usually, in case it tanks).

There is a TV series at works as well, I believe

The first book has a natural cut-off point in the middle. The best comparison is with "It", which was also an epic book divided into two films. You didn't feel that the first film was incomplete, because it ended at a natural point (the end of childhood). The second film started after a big time jump. Dune should be similar.
@entertainmentculture29094 жыл бұрын
Good thing they filmed it as a standalone movie, incase it flops at box office, they wanted to do a series for HBO Max connect to the movie anyway
@guyvanburen4 жыл бұрын
I’m skeptical. Think it will be DOA
@wintersmill48534 жыл бұрын
Easy to make it a “stand alone” movie, you just end it after the Fall of house Atraties on Arakis. Simple.
@ciarandudley38004 жыл бұрын
The film can be "standalone" because the novel is structured in such a way that the story basically begins and ends twice; first as the gaining and losing of Dune and then as the reclaiming of it.
@robonick36074 жыл бұрын
I’m expecting them to end it once Paul meets the Fremen, maybe it would be cool to end it on his killing Jamis and crying.

The only way I can see that this film can be 'fully-formed' is for the story to have been significantly altered.
@reneepeck80944 жыл бұрын
From what people stated when reading the leaked script, it’s suppose to be incredibly faithful to the book.
