Going back to AotC, we are shown that Obi-Wan was prone to belittling Anakin, even in front of a Republic Senator. Their problem was that they were too close in age. Obi-Wan lacked the authority of a father figure, being closer to an older brother. Yet again, the Jedi Council's chronic inability to understand that the universe doesn't work according to their wishes proved disastrous.
@ZoeMalDoran2 ай бұрын
A lot of supplementary material (including the AotC novelisation) implied that Obi-Wan's treatment of Anakin in that situation was a deviation from the norm. He was coming down harder than usual on Anakin because Anakin was trying to show off for Padmé and didn't seem to have a handle on his feelings
@daniels79072 ай бұрын
@@ZoeMalDoran - There's this little thing called: being discrete. Yes, Anakin was getting his creep on Padme. However, in the interest of maintaining the appearance of professionalism, Obi-Wan should *not* have resorted to such petty behavior in front of the Senator. You would expect Jedi, supposedly excellent diplomats, to know how to defuse an awkward situation without making an even bigger scene. It shows that he really wasn't mature enough to be a Master. Later, he criticizes Anakin for recklessness immediately after he himself jumped through a window, grabbed onto a small droid, and prayed to the Force that it had enough repulsorlift power to keep them both aloft. Oh, and then the droid gets shot, leaving him to fall to his death except for Anakin saving him. But still he complains and acts superior. Honestly, I watched all this and it was like Anakin's fall to the Dark Side was at least half motivated by Obi-Wan's arrogance.

And while they're at it, they let the child hang out with the top dog politician of their nation who they have misgivings about, but rescuing the child's mother from slavery so the child can have peace of mind is somehow too much. Its just very very constructed how the jedi council manages to make all of these slipups. As appealing as his world building might be, Lucas characters have never been extremely convincing, nor his plots. But one might say they are competent generals but spiritually flawed. Yoda least of all but he has to work against his own council at age 850 while his right hand eagerly ran of to play soldier and slowly became the worst of the bunch. Remember how the jedi were reluctant to fight in the mandalorian wars? Back then they were pacifists still and the republic did not overrely on jedi for its protection. The modern Jedi were slowly shoehorned into becoming a military force, and by the time of the clonewars they had become living contradictions.

This argument - that someone is too old to begin the Jedi training - has always confused me. If a powerful Force-sensitive child (or adult, for that matter) is considered dangerous if trained, do the Jedi not stand to benefit by getting involved in their shaping of that person? Not training someone as a Jedi does not take away their natural affinity with the Force, and there are darker powers in the galaxy that do not share the same age-restrictions

I feel like this has to do with not having to break established views, beliefs and ways of living. The younger they are when they begin training, the “easier” it is to teach the ways of the force and the code of the Jedi. Indoctrination requires a basic understanding of who you are, and a belief system to appose. Maybe this had something to do with the fear that a child starting their training after a certain age, had higher chances of being influenced and seduced by the dark side. Maybe it was to ensure almost every Jedi trained was guaranteed to be fiercely loyal to the order. Maybe this whole theory is cockamamie 😅

Try this again. Anakin killed kids who brought guns to school and shot up kids and adults as it were. Themselves as Party Hearst victims of Stockholm Syndrome. Stockholm Syndrome: This phenomenon occurs when hostages or victims develop feelings of affection or loyalty towards their captors, sometimes even siding with them against authorities. The term originates from a bank robbery in Stockholm in 1973, where hostages began to form bonds with their captors. Patty Hearst: The granddaughter of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst, Patty was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) in 1974. During her captivity, she began to identify with her captors and ultimately participated in criminal activities alongside them, which led to her arrest and later a highly publicized trial. Luke Skywalker Connection: Initial Captivity: In "The Empire Strikes Back," Luke Skywalker is kidnapped and trained by Obi wan while trained to kill his father a person named Anakin called an object named Vader saying the the object killed the person Anakin. Obi Wan and Yoda represent the oppressive force in the galaxy. While Luke is raised to call good evil and evil good in the traditional sense as Patty Hearst was, he is drawn into the conflict and never comes to understand the complexities of the Force and his own lineage. Emotional Manipulation: Similar to how Stockholm Syndrome can involve emotional manipulation, Luke's journey includes a degree of manipulation by those around him. His relationship with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and later even, Vader, can be seen as a complex dynamic where the mentor-student relationship includes elements of psychological struggle, allegiance, and conflict. Identification with the Enemy: By the end of "Return of the Jedi," Luke chooses to confront, Vader and the Emperor, representing the ideas of Luke's Jedi captors or oppressors. In this light, Anakin has moments of conflicted loyalty: to his son versus the Stockholm syndrome of his son, who is calling evil good and good evil. In summary, the psychological undercurrents of loyalty, manipulation, and eventual defiance present some thematic similarities. Rather than being fully captive, Luke navigates a complex emotional and moral landscape. Anakin met force with force and only attacked after their first strike meeting deadly force with deadly force. They objectified Anakin as an object called Vader saying the objectified Vader killed the person named Anakin who was not dead just objectified as Vader or Father. They built a death Star attempting to have Anakin blow up a daughter who. they did not tell him was still alive after they kidnapped his kids and called them dead all the while telling the kids their father, a person namec Anakin, was dead and was killed by an objectified Anakin called Vader or Father. While themselves having burned Anakin alive without trial and leaving him for dead saying he killed Padme despite doctor finding nothing medically wrong with Padme. This brings forth a complex narrative that delves into themes of identity, objectification, and trauma, especially in how he is perceived and how he perceives himself. Anakin vs. Vader: Anakin Skywalker’s a person (the Jedi objectified as an evil object) who had obeyed law while false objectified as unlawful Darth Vader (or Dark Father) and can be seen as a process of objectification. The emotional and psychological toll of being betrayed by the Jedi as unlawful evil for calling good good and evil evil and losing his loved ones leads to the treating his person as an object called "Father" or "Vader." As this false objectified identity strips the law abiding person named Anakin’s humanity and past relationships, reducing him to a figure of fear and power. This mirrors the concept of Stockholm syndrome, where a victim (in this case, Anakin) is rendered as the property of external forces (the Emperor and the Jedi) who manipulate and control him. The Jedi, particularly after the events that led Anakin to become Vader, painted a narrative where Anakin was perceived as a threat. They objectified him as a villain rather than recognizing his grief and internal struggles. This reflects a form of emotional manipulation that led to Anakin becoming entrenched between two evil sides, akin to a victim refusing to identify with their captors the way his son Luke did. The tragic twists of the story-where Anakin’s children, Luke and Leia, were lied upon and called dead and told the law abiding person who was their father and very much alive after being burned alive without trial by their Jedi captors; especially, Obi Wan and both told, each the other, was dead by a law breaking Jedi who called evil object Vader killed by the person Anakin whom Jedi called dead and where significant truths about their lives were hidden-playing into the layers of deception that led both Anakin and Luke into troubled paths. Luke, raised with an incomplete understanding of his own lineage, and in many ways, both were byproducts of the objectification and manipulation surrounding Anakin’s betrayal by unlawful Jedi calling evil good and good evil.. When Stockholm syndrome Patty Hearst like Luke confronts his objectified father, Luke too objectifies the person Anakin who broke no law The narrative of objectification persists as Luke learns that the person he faces, Vader, is a shell of the man who was always his law abiding person and his very much alive father. This speaks to the trauma passed down through generations-Luke battles not just an Jedi enemy, but the internalized conflict that arises from the Jedi choices and the allegiance he is forced to take in the face of the Jedi tyranny. In "Return of the Jedi," Luke’s confrontation with Vader as an unlawful object and not as a law abiding person serves as a culmination of both characters’ struggles against objectification and manipulation. Luke can’t see through the Rorschach test of the mask and ultimately believes in Anakin's humanity which was always there despite Luke's Patty Hearst like Stockholm syndrome leading to his Luke's deception by the Jedi. This reflects not only an acceptance of the false objectification of his lawful father alive falsely identified as a living object called "Father" or "Vader" but also a never overcoming the lost relationship-the failure to recognize the falsehood of their objectification of the law abiding person named Anakin who was never the object called "Father" or "Vader". In summary, Luke’s journey was framed through themes of psychological captivity and identity loss and trauma that is central to law abiding person Anakin/law breaking object Vader's false narrative made up by criminal Jedis. This framing highlights the interplay between victim and captor, the complexity of identity, and the potential for a lack of redemption against a backdrop of manipulation and objectification, ultimately emphasizing the loss of the resilience of personal identity due to the oppressive forces. Yoda didn't want to train Anakin because he called good good and evil evil and they called good evil and evil good. If he faced slaves and slavers he would call slaver's evil and not good. Yoda and the Jedi are the scared slave traders.

It was obvious Qui-Gon's dying wish was merely for Anakin to be trained. Does anyone think he would have objected if the Order had instead granted Plo Koon permission to train him?

Honestly I think Mace would’ve been a good master for him. He had a better understanding of negative emotions and how to deal with them. Obi-wan drank the Jedi juice though, suppress and ignore. The negatives from Mace would be this though. I don’t think he has the necessary patience to deal with someone as opinionated as Anakin. So it could drive him out of the order entirely. I dunno, I think there’s very few people who could train him properly. Especially with Palpatine meddling.

What if... the Jedi Council had agreed to permit Anakin to be trained as a Jedi, but _not_ by Obi-wan? What if they had instead decided to separate them and assign _another_ Jedi to serve as Anakin's master?

Yoda could've chosen any master to train Anakin, but y'know what? He chose Obi-Wan. Could've chosen Mundi, Windu, Plo Kloon, Secura, Kit Fisto... You know any of those jedi masters who controlled and accepted their emotions, but no, emotionally compromised Obi-Wan will do.

Anakin was meant to be exactly what the Force had intended him to be. Due to the manipulative tactics of Pleagus, and Sidious' actions. Everything played out as it was meant to be. We can what if under the sun all day long, the Force ultimately decided the fate of the galaxies structure by allowing Anakin to be the best of both orders, and the destruction of them bringing Balance back to order.

Facts spoken , I can agree with this pointer here ✅ There were many Jedi in that school who were more Maverick in nature & would have been suited more to train someone like Anakin more effectively than that silly Jedi Council's prior choices & picks in a person like "Obi-Wan" for E.g.

lol I’m of the mind set that no matter if it was Qui-gon or Obi-Wan, Anakin would have still turned out the way he did. Don’t know why people swear he would have turned out any different if qui-gon trained him. His mother still wasn’t freed and that attachment doesn’t just disappear because he has a different master. Hell, I’d argue down the line there would have been friction between the two when you consider that it was Qui-gon decision to leave Shmi on tattoine. He was all about following the will of the force so I don’t see how him surviving Naboo changes anakins fate.

I think Qui-Gon did have plans to free her. What I don’t understand is why none of the Jedis bothered, not even Obi-Wan.
@lm47332 ай бұрын
@@calkestis5817 that’s wishful thinking. When anakin asked him if she was coming he flat out said no and we know the Jedi as a whole don’t intervene when it comes to slavery in the galaxy as a whole. That’s not on Obi-wan but the Jedi as a whole. This notion that Qui-gon was this compassionate Jedi is just false, he just didn’t buy into the way the Jedi council blindly served the republic rather than following the will of the force.
@ceresbane2 ай бұрын
So lets say the jedi never trained anakin. You now have a powerful force user that could wield immense power without the guidance of trained force users and could achieve immense cataclysms by failing to control this power. And this is on the assumption that the Sith wouldn't merely grab him as Sidious did indeed grab Maul at a young age and raised him to be sith. As opposed to the usual tactic of tempting Jedi to fall.

Obi and Jin were right and Joda etc should have helped as much as possible. Anakin's fall to the dark side was Palp's and Anakin's fault but, the failing of the Jedi order was to be so open to that form of attack. Yoda said himself, too sure of themselves = bloody arrogant.
