This is one of the classiest Biellmann performances. In the mid 1990s, she tended to steer towards weird drum-heavy "sounds" or 3 minutes of an aerobics class soundtrack punctuated by crossovers and split jumps. I was led to believe that was how she skated her entire career until she started doing programs with Robin Cousins in the late 1990s. This one, from the early 1990s, to On Golden Pond is masterful, classic and exquisitely executed.

Yes I love this program. Yes it should have been her Artistic/ Free. If she had wanted to win Albertville Olympics. Simple edits. First jump is a 3+3. Sneak in a double axel later (perfect place already) turn her 2nd flying camel into a death drop, build a spin up 3 levels ending in a Bielmann variation, out of that continue on. I absolutely love this program and has grown major respect for the humble Denixe. Who could have won 84,8, 92 and 94 Olympics if she desired.

All of the top skaters are almost mandated to perform the "Biellmann" spin but no one can come close to this perfection. Its not just pulling your leg up behind your head. I hope some of the top skaters will take some time to learn it properly.. its a show stopper.
@sbe797 жыл бұрын
So many of the Biellmann spins done now are just so bland. You're right. Every skater does them (I wish they wouldn't). It isn't just the "technical aspect" of throwing your leg vertical to the ice whilst rotating. There is more to it. A lot more.

@@moonlight_oats I think nowadays there are different versions of the Biellmann spin. It's the most enchanting program I've ever seen. A perfect Free Skate. And with a few edits Gold Contention Albertville Olympics '92. If it's a little short in time (wayyy too long for a short/tech program now) then fine. . We add an introduction while the loons coo. Denise comes from off the ice and moves beautifully to then pick up speed to do a serpentine form conceptual unique spiral sequence into an Avant guard spiral swirl in - to end up as she starts here. I think she could have captured Gold in 84,88,92 and 94. If she had the right elements and nailed them with super special programs as this. '92. Her 2nd jumping pass here has to be a 3+3. Her intro 2A add a 2 flip.. After her spiral sequence here and the pretty moves + footwork. She sneaks in a 2A (samd ice coverage) and keep on. Her triple becomes a 3+2 and her later 2+2 a 3+2. Olympic Gold Albertville. Her look was better than them all too besides Kerrigan was glamming up. I just discovered Denise like 5 days ago. Wow!

@@coreyadkins8775 HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT SKATING AND ONLY JUST DISCOVERED DENISE !!! WHERE YOU BEEN ???
@coreyadkins87752 жыл бұрын
@@LISZTIZATION I have designed in a visual sport that's much harder to program than ice skating. My role model designer used to stage Olympic Ceremonies. Even 1980. So he even staged Denise and those gals back then. And I've been in Complex PTSD and to watch figure skating became a therapy. And I discovered how strategic the sport side is. And figured out how Tara Lipinski beat Michelle Kwan in 1998, how Hughes won in 2002, etc. . And how Kristi won in 1992. And is learning how some coaches don't have their clients back logically with the right jumping pass formulas. I made Denise's open jump a 2A-,2 because Harding didn't and if Ito did we matched. I had to match Kristie's 3+3 which was supposed to be itos opening jump too. I had to sneak in a 2A single to show off how great Denise's land is and it fits the musical phrases to hold it pretty and long. I made all of Denises' 3s into combos because no other top contenders did that. And her last jumping pass is adjusted to a 2 + 3 because no one did a 2+3 combo period. Very strategic. Denise could fall too. But she can't miss her 3+3 or opening jump pass. If she misses the 2 double single jumps snuck in, then the ice flow forward is dead. She could elect to downgrade her last jump or 1 3+2. . But I don't doubt Denise's endurance at all. Super fit Denise.
@coreyadkins87752 жыл бұрын
@@LISZTIZATION did you notice that after Kristi arrived into professionals how Peggy and Hamilton slowly but surely turned on Denise? I heard Peggy bald face lie. Camera was following Denise. Her feet were easily seen. She downgraded a 3+2 to a 2. I saw that her skate ran over a huge spin dug out. VERY DISTRACTING. Obviously Peggy forgot that Denise is left-handed because her legs weren't twisted backwards. And she didn't 2 foot land that jump. I'd say her skirt cut in that program may have been a little distracting in jump passages. I forgot which program though.

@raymonda100 I don't see how you can say that the choreography doesn't express the music. Her moves were on time, flowed beautifully with the music. And I haven't seen much skating from Dorothy Hamill to comment on whether she would have done it better, so I'll just have to agree that Dorothy probably would have done well with it. But for this performance, Denise reminded me of one of those old music boxes with the porcelain dancer that pivots while the music goes. She was simply breathtaking.
@coreyadkins87752 жыл бұрын
Because Raymonda is a bias fan of someone. So bias that she can miss how incredible this program was. Plus Dorothy Hamill would never compare herself or say she'd do it better. Again that's Raymondas ego not Hamill's.

This was Tom Hammond and Sandra Bezic's best commentary EVER. They introduced her and had lovely comments at the end with NO COMMENTARY during the program. This is among my absolute favorites :) A true shining example of lyrical skating at its best where Denise was one with the music and skated with freedom. She did have a minor toe tap on the 3 salcow and doubled her second salcow in the combination, but I only know this was there from watching the program hundreds of times.

@coreyadkins87752 жыл бұрын
You mean no herky jerky upper body choreography? Lol. Denise makes this look simple. This program only needs a few edits to win a World Gold. Her double doubles become triple triples. An end stadium fast (pick up speed) becomes an elegant beautiful shorter spiral. She picks up speed to then land that triple she does here. Just add a bit of twizzles or pretty legs or pretty arms with a little choreography before a couple of jumps and bam. Olympic Gold back then easy. I'd love to see Denise do an Ina Bower. I bet hers would be the most exquisite maybe over Ina 😍. Turn this into the Free Skate. Notice how long it is.

Denise represents the age of figure skating at its best. Today, it’s all about a jump-fest. No longer do the skaters do great spirals that sweep the ice from one end to the other or those great Ina Bauers. They don’t do innovative spins like those done in Denise’s day. All of those beautiful elements have simply been afterthoughts thrown in between a bunch of triple jumps and combos. I miss the quality of the skating from the 80’s and 90’s. I’ve lost my interest in watching skating the way that it is now. The changes in scoring may have helped a little but, as we can see from the controversy in 2022 Olympics, there is still cheating going on. I come back and watch the videos of skating, like this video, when it was at at it’s best.
