Katia IS the music...and is simply mesmerizing. Stunning, too---all of those tiny nuances, and right on the beat!

What surprises me is how low her artistic scores were. Obviously she had not reached the technical prowess of the top skaters, but her artistic interpretation of the song was fluid, varied, and altogether expressed the mood of Umbrellas perfectly. Ekaterina has such a lightness, a gentle, fluid presence on the ice. And the expressiveness of her arms alone is peerless.

Katia Gordeeva is the most beautiful Russian woman I have ever seen, not only Russian but in general she is very beautiful, very graceful and is the epitome of artistry and finesse, even more so when she was young. Her music, choreography, and costumes are always a cut above everyone else's. This is innate for her.

Some of the commenters are living on another planet. She received fantastic scores in a professional competition, finished second, and people say she couldn’t hack it? After losing her husband? Holy shit, folks. You need to get your reality checked. I think part of the problem is that since pro skating is no longer televised every weekend, people don’t understand the difference between pro and amateur skating. Amateur skating is what decides your life. Pro skating is when you can sit back with your millions and enjoy it. No one, not Katarina, not Oksana, not Katia, not Tara performed seven triples as a pro skater. Although Kristi never gave up the jumps!
@stephaniek107611 ай бұрын
Yes...I sure admire and respect Kristi Yamaguchi and how she not only maintained excellence through the years, but continued to learn. I also think she is underrated for what she did for figure skating.

She is such a courageous woman. Her heart is just too broken to even consider a new pairs partner at this point. Now in 2018 she is still in the skating world, has raised two beautiful daughters and gone through a divorce. Not the life she expected but she has faced every obstacle with determination and courage. How I admire her. I hope Daria gives her a grandchild in the near future, married or not.

I was thinking same as I watched. And, also, how she'd said somewhere (can't recall where, exactly) that she and Sergei had always planned on going back to Paris for more time in that lovely city, "---but, of course, we never did."

People on KZbin sit on their butts and criticize something that no one had ever done before. And she did it incredibly well. I don’t think people understand the difference between amateur and professional competitions anyway. You don’t compare and nitpick and tear down pro skaters. They are already millionaires just having a little friendly competition with each other.

These skating performances are not all about the mechanics it is also about the innate femininity of the skater. I think she is graceful and pretty but not in the same league as Oksana. Oksana had a special gift, a one in a million talent. She did not look very good in 2006 though busting out of her suit. She looked like me.

Adriana Gumienny katia could only do pairs if and when she was/would be ready. Personally i don't think she could face another partner.
@ravenel24 жыл бұрын
Why on earth should she have “been paired up again”?? She wasn’t a slave. The Soviet Union had fallen. She had won everything there was to win and she started a brand new solo career as a professional. Her amateur career was already over, unless Sergei had lived and they had gone for a third Olympic medal. When you loved and lost the best skating partner on the planet, why in God’s name would you ever pair with someone else? Who would she have found that was on her level? People are so stupid. It was her life, not yours, and she did fantastic as a professional skater. When you are a professional, winning competitions doesn’t matter a whole lot anyway.

Bullshit. She finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi in the World Professional Championships once. Meaning she beat every other professional single skater in the competition.
@ravenel24 жыл бұрын
People are so, so out of touch with reality. And stupid as hell. She had already won everything she could as a pair skater. She was a professional pair skater with Stars on Ice. Sergei died and she continued with SOI. She didn’t have to skate one damn pro competition ever again, but she did, and finished near the top always. Do you understand what that means? It means she beat most of the other pro skaters. I don’t think people understand the difference between pro competitions and amateur competitions anyway. It is amateur competitions that decide your life. Pro competitions are for the millionaires at the top of the world who still want to have a little friendly competition with each other and for TV audiences, and win some money. They really don’t matter.
