Dennis DeYoung (Formerly of Styx) "Isle of Misanthrope" Official Music Video. From the album "26 East, Vol. 2", available on CD/LP/Digital. Order HERE: orcd.co/ddyvol2 .
There’s a mysterious narrative unfolding in this six-minute opus with numerous musical and video twists and turns, harkening back to the great Equinox and Grand Illusion albums. Harken harken.
Do you like rockin' monks, space travel, time machines, mysterious orbs, dinosaurs, ancient ruins, three masters, strange sunglasses, beautiful sea sirens, howling wolves, fake lutes, screaming guitar solos, funky monks, (can you ever have too many monks) and hidden Styx stuff? Well so do I, too bad none of these things are in this video. MORE FAKE NEWS? NO I SWEAR THEY ARE ALL IN THIS VIDEO. If I’m lyin' I’m cryin'.

LYRICS:
LONG AGO IN ANCIENT TIMES
WE LEARNED OF LIFE FROM MINSTREL’S RHYMES
THEY TOLD US TALES OF GODS AND KINGS
AND TO BE BEWARE WHEN SIRENS SING
AND WHEN WE HEARD THE CLARION CALL
THE PEOPLE LAUGHED AND BUILT A WALL
HOW WE JOYFULLY REHEARSED THE TUNE
LIKE HOWLING WOLVES AT DEVILS MOON
WE’VE ALLL BEEN TAUGHT OUR LINES
SO RIGHTEOUS WITH OUR HOLY SIGNS
WE WERE DEAF TO THE LIES WE WERE BLIND AND UNKIND AND UNWISE
AND WILL WE EVER LEARN ALL EMPIRES BUILT WILL SOMEDAY BURN
WHEN THEY’VE LOST ALL CONCERN AND THEY FAIL JUST TO LISTEN AND LEARN
NO MORE LIFE
NO MORE AIR
LIKE A SHIP OF FOOLS ADRIFT ON THE MAL DE MARE
NO MORE JOY
NO MORE HOPE
STILL WE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF TRUTH AS WE LEARN TO COPE.
LORD FOM THE ISLE OF THE MISANTHROPE
AND WILL WE EVER LEARN ALL EMPIRES BUILT WILL SOME DAY BURN
WHEN THEY’VE LOST ALL CONCERN AND THEY FAIL JUST TO LISTEN AND LEARN
NO MORE LIFE
NO MORE AIR
LIKE A SHIP OF FOOLS ADRIFT SUR LE MAL DE MARE
NO MORE JOY
NO MORE HOPE
STILL WE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF TRUTH AS WE LEARN TO COPE.
LORD FOM THE ISLE OF THE MISANTHROPE
AND WHEN WE CROSSED THE BRIDGE OF SIGHS
WE BOWED AND SAID OUR LAST GOODBYES
THEN SET A COURSE FOR BETTER DAYS
THEN ONCE AGAIN WE SAILED AWAY.....

This video is sublime but it seems like the grand finale of a fantastic tale. How did we come to this place? Why did these "monks" drop out of society? Surely they started with great expectations but something happened, despite the warnings of Tiresias, that led the world to this sad point where the people abandon it to try again somewhere else. There is an entire album here for you to explore Dennis! Please consider it.

Dennis, you are a musical genius and it has been my honor to be one of your biggest fans since the release of the Equinox album. I was only eight at the time, but my cousin was 14 and we played that album constantly while going through and trading our baseball cards. I own every musical recording that has your name on it- on vinyl, cassette and CD. Please come to Turning Stone again once the pandemic is over. God Bless you and your family.

You hit the nail on the head. This song is really more classic Styx than what the group has recently produced. I saw Styx live in 2019 (gift from a friend) and they were well rehearsed - but totally lacking in the hits by Dennis. I have to give credit where credit is due - Laurence Gowan does a decent job.

@@luisalonsoecheverria Those two songs are the only two that kinda sound like Styx. Unfortunately, Gone is WAY too short. Listen to the first four Styx albums, Dennis was lost as could be, and had no identity, no style of his own, and so JY & JC were the ones who did, and lead the band forwards, while giving it it's original sound and signature styling. That said, he never founded the band at all, that's a lie he tells so boisterously throughout his years. The fact is, John and Chuckie Ponazzo founded it, and brought Dennis in when they decided to make a band of it. Dennis had even higher aspirations and more desire to make it big time as soon as possible than they did, but it doesn't make Dennis the founder. That's still Chuckie & John who founded it. It wasn't until Tommy came along that for some reason, it spontaneously coincided with Dennis discovering and finding his own style & sound, with Equinox & especially Crystal Ball being the albums the sound and style we all know as Dennis first came around. Meaning technically Tommy without even realizing it or intending it, was THE catalyst that not only sent Styx into true Legend status from B-list band, but also Dennis' entire success as a musician. And let's not forget that Dennis nearly got his ass kicked back in 83/84, for the same reasons they ultimately kicked him out in 99 - he tried to control everything about the band, it's business, it's production, it's direction, it's sound, it's style, literally everything, and was also a arrogant showboat to boot who refused the other members their majority vote to go in a more classic hard rock direction. He was literally dictating to them, and they had enough of his bullshit. And in case you didn't know, a band is called a band because it is a group of people banding together to create music with each other. A band is a team and family, it is require to compromise, adapt and function as a true democracy, majority rules, or better yet, allow each member to create the music they want to, and have variety of sounds and styles as your signature. Dennis is the polar opposite of that. Thus, why the bad blood history of the band with Dennis and vise versa is even existent to begin with. So no matter how talented and grand a musician Dennis is (of course he is), he deserved getting his ass handed to him and his own BS being fed back down his throat. Honestly, they should have kicked him out in 84 like they intended to, but as the age old phrase goes, "Hind sight is 20/20". And really in the end, that also proves why if Dennis really isn't the kind of guy to go THAT FAR with his lies, he will never change it to "Founder of Styx", because he damn well knows it's a bald faced lie that already had him embarrassed badly in court when he attempted to sue the band for the rights to the IPs, as that was his main arrangement, that HE came up with it all and HE was the founder and thus rightful owner of it all. Because again, it was all a bald faced lie, and thus the court cases rapidly concluded, rather than being dragged out, ending with full favor to the current iteration of the band. Chuckie is the last remaining TRUE founder of the band, and clearly even the legal papers and burden of proof shows that via the results of it. And why not, though it is indirect, let's not forget that Dennis' solo career, specifically in the 80s failed miserably as well. He talks a immense talk, and even walks a oversized, pompass walk, but his musical career proved disliked and heavily laughed at or hated. Meanwhile during the same period, Tommy absolutely killed the solo career. Ironic, isn't it? Dennis, famously broadway in style and sound, even attempted to sell a solo album written specifically for broadway to any theatre company he could, any production teams and playwrights, and was immediately rejected by every single one of them, too. That is REALLY telling! The biggest hit he managed to produce during his solo days in the 80s was Desert Moon, and mind you, it is a very underappreciated song for sure, but even if it got the appreciation it should garner, still wouldn't have ever made it to A-list status as a single, and the respective album did even worse, too. Then you have the return back to Styx, and they released Edge Of The Century... god that album is terrible. Well, guess who pushed that out and even solo-produced it? Yep, Dennis DeYoung! Who would have thought, huh? The only good track off of it is Love Is The Ritual, which is a Glen Burtnik song - not even Dennis provided a hit, let alone good song off of that album. Haha. So history actually proves and directly argues against Dennis time and time again, especially his own attempts at point making about why he "was the face of Styx", why he "was the most loved and respect band member and songwriter in the band", etc. Tommy even produced more Hits for Styx than Dennis, even though Dennis argues the opposite. Dennis does have one or two Styx songs that placed slightly higher on the charts than Tommy, but that doesn't mean crap. And then again, it's not some kind of clout/hit making competition, so it only further proves Dennis' massive arrogance. But I digress.

Tribute band ? Wow.. Get your head out of your a##...DeYoung had his moments and granted he wrote some great songs... But Styx would not have been who they were without Shaw & JY...I invite anyone to go through every Styx album and take note of who wrote and sang the songs that made Styx great... You'll find that the hard rocking memorable songs were mostly written and sang by either Shaw or JY...Haters can count Babe and a few other Broadway Musical sounding songs to DeYoung... Give credit where credit is due... It took the three of them to accomplish what they did... Sorry about being an a## but to call them a "Tribute Band" is absurd..."Good Day Sir !"

The other guys are a touring nostalgia act, milking 40-50 year old hits, with a decent musician & vocalist yes, but an imposter nonetheless. Please tour at least one last time, or a cpl summer shorter easier tours ? For you, & for us. Just for fun & old times sake. Retiring from recording any more new music - yes. However, his own website currently lists some planned live concerts in the USA & Canada during 2021-2022. Depending on the continued battle against Covid in those countries, these gigs may or may not go ahead. 45 shows a year is more than either Billy Joel or The Rolling Stones (both bigger brand names than DDY) have each played in any one calendar year between 2009 and 2019.
