One of those 10 losses was against the Toronto Raptors a game I was at, I was 11 years old. My whole family got tickets scattered throughout the Skydome (Rogers Centre). If I remember correctly the Raptors were still playing their home games in the Skydome (before the Air Canada Centre was built, now called Scotiabank Arena) and they would curtain off large parts of the stadium. They would have like 12 thousand seats available per game and when the Bulls rolled into town that year they opened up the entire Skydome selling out 40,000 seats. The Dome held 52,000 fot baseball and maybe a little more potentially for basketball but they blacked out areas where you wouldn't have a view of the court. I remember Jordan fouling out with a minute or 2 left to go and they played "hit the road Jack" and everyone was singing. It was so cold that night as well, I remember standing outside the stadium with my mom, aunt and cousin waiting for the rest of my family to meet us outside our gate and my cousin who's not from Toronto was literally crying bc it was so cold. Dammnn bro, u unlocked some vault memories with that 72-10 comment and me remembering that Raps win and my entire family being at the game. Truth be told Isaiah Thomas who was the GM at the time left my uncle tickets at the window, that's a whole other story.

Man, so many of the announcers and refs back then seemed to just do Dennis dirty. Like, a lot of these plays are actually pretty clean. It's just that he was a tenacious defensive player, and his opponents couldn't handle him. Like, many of these occasions when he gets tangled up with someone going for a rebound? Rodman is going for the ball while his opponents are searching for fouls knowing they got beat. I was never much of a Bulls fan, but I did love watching their games just because they had such a dynamic team. Strong defensive games are way more entertaining than the boring shooting matches we often have these days.

Rodman was a hard to love player if he was not on your team, but he had a special skill that played well in the era of basketball he was in. You did not have to like him, but you had to deal with him because he was the absolute best at what he did. He was an instigator, but no one could beat him to a contested rebound, he did not give up. The end of his career was more of a show, but the Piston/Bull timeline was his zenith.

Psy 101: Being angry will not always make you perform better. The distraction separated talent and skill. Laettner was skilled enough to ignore Rodman while others (like Sura)...not as much. He then preyed on that distraction and let you react and respond to your anger while he played the victim. That's how he showed that these superstars were human. Did you see what happened to Sura? He gave the Bulls the advantage with Sura out of the game. That's Rodman's cerebral approach to the game.

Not sure if this has already been commented on, but did anybody else peep him very assertively shoving Kukoc’s hand away from helping Shaq up at the 7:49 mark and probably cussed him out reminding him he has teammates for that. My how times have changed. Todays NBA the opposing player probably would’ve offered him a band aid after helping him up😂 and got his jersey after the game. I’ll take ole’ school NBA over today’s “load management” NBA any day.
