Do away with the charter system completely. NASCAR and the tracks need to work together to significantly increase the payout for the races. This way revenue to the teams is earned through performance and it helps to promote competition. Charters are stunting growth because new teams can’t come into the sport unless they have one. How many races do we see now where there’s only 36 cars showing up to the track each week? I miss the days where 52 teams used to show up for 43 spots. Your spot in the field should never be guaranteed just because you have a “charter”.
@RogerBates75 ай бұрын

@@JackLikesTrackhouse I think it is feasible if they did a short track series in SLM instead of these nexgen pos cars. Look at what Lucas Oil and WoO has accomplished since the cup racing has gone so sour. No asphalt SLM series has even got close to Lucus or WoO popularity. It would work if you bring the stars from cup to race 24 to 28 cars on a 3/8 to 1/2 track. There are so many tracks in that size range that are under utilized. Due to more track/promoter options it allows this proposed series to get the best possible deals year in and year out. I know on the dirt side it cost a winning team 1 to 2 million to run a SLM a year. SLM on short tracks are just as fast if not faster then the nexgen car for anyone that wants to make the argument that SLM is slower then Cup. Yes, I'm aware that the purses and sponsorship deals would bring less money. But when you move to a car that cost 1/10th to run on a annual basis it leaves a lot of wiggle room.

Tried it in the '60's - 70's. It's a mess for track owners that won't work long term. Besides, AGAIN the Frances would just bleed everyone dry. Buying the Frances out is one solution that would work assuming the purchaser will be more generous with the payouts and less financially burdensome the rest of the time. I still watch but I'm finding it hard to root for new drivers. My driver is struggling and getting towards the end of his career. There are few incentives for me to watch trucks or Xfinity since cup drivers rarely compete there anymore, and furthermore it has been a long time since we've seen someone work their way up the ranks and be able to translate from Xfinity and immediately be competitive in cup. Part of that is the lack of cup regulars and some of that is the vast difference in the cars they run now. Joey Logano is the last driver I can think of who had Xfinity (Nationwide) success and immediately had cup success. Ty Gibbs showed promise but he's still waiting for his first win a year later. Then you throw in the convoluted charter system, "putting the stock back in stock car" but not really, or doing everything to the cars to try and improve the racing EXCEPT increase HP again even though they're using the same engines that made 900 HP.

The Cup field struggles to field more than 25 cars, most drivers in the series have no prestige because they've all bought theor rides instead of earned them, and only Hendrick Motorsports is winning any races because most other teams are barely functional* NASCAR fans: "At least the Charter system is gone"

The charter system was one of the last bad decisions made by a guy who made a lot of bad decisions for nascar. Btw, it was the ARCA series that big bill france brought to Talladega when the nascar drivers boycotted.

Grand American series

@@JackLikesTrackhouse Back then the Cup series was known as the Grand National Series and what we know now as the Xfinity Series was known as the Sportsman Series. To add to the confusion, the Grand National Series was later renamed the Winston Cup Series and the Sportsman Series was later renamed the Bush Grand National Series in the early 80s. The race in question was the 1969 Talladega race boycotted by most of the top cup drivers over tire concerns. Nascar decided that the event would go on with a bunch of guys that nobody ever heard of from multiple lower series. It is universally considered to be a total $hit show.

We need new leaders and owners like Denny and Brad K in the sport. I get the cost, but I wished Dale Jr would get into cup. NASCAR to keep growing needs Dale Jr, Hamlin, Brad K to be the voices for drivers and fans. Mr H, Penske, Jack Roush, Joe Gibbs, and Richard are not going to be around forever. All are getting up in age.

The reason that Dale Jr. is not in cup is because of the charter system! It just keeps new teams out!

Kenny, I'll be honest with you I don't watch much NASCAR anymore. The owners and officials have made this sport pretty much unworthy of attending or watching IMO. The last race I attended was when my son took me to the Daytona race in 2012 for my 50th Birthday (Feb 26) and rain delayed the race until Monday (yep we got soaked) and it was also the first time the new lights were used at Daytona since the race went into the eve due to more rain in the day, Monday (yep we got soaked, again).... Also when Montoya hit the blower... that was something to see live!! My son bought us pit passes too... yet the race ended in a GWC! Driving from Tampa to Daytona for 2 days in a row just made a GWC that much harder to swallow. I did have a good time for the most part until that GWC. Basically the last 10 laps were under yellow. The only reason I watch it sometimes now is because a friend of mines son races. He's the current points leader, oops scratch that he's now second in points due to Larsons win at Bristol. I didn't know DB back in 2012 but even if I did it wouldn't have changed the way I feel about the owners and officiating. I have watched maybe a dozen races since then and after watching this video, thank you, I am even more unlikely to watch or support this sport. Fans are the reason this sport exists! Hopefully the owners of NASCAR catch on to that REAL FAST or this sport will die! Like Hamlin said, the STARS & CARS are why we support this sport. If the teams get together and decide to make their own league I WILL support it! And finally like Hamlin was told, if you don't like it then don't participate... and I won't! The difference.... NASCAR can replace a team sure, but they can't replace *me!* (only got to watch half this cause I gotta go to work but wanted to post this) Thanks for the great video mister KW!!

As a fan of NASCAR I’m not a Hamiln fan but he does have an absolutely point here. NASCAR wonders why they lose teams and fans well one is the stars droping out (like SHR) and the other is inconsistent calling of rules. It’s basically a pick and choose who gets what. I believe they need to at least cover cost for the teams to put on a damn good show (especially if they want to rig it like they did with Larson at Indy). But they won’t hell they can’t even get caution calls correctly so in my opinion NASCAR (not the teams) will kill them selves. Which blows my mind.

I 100% absolutely support 23IX and Front Row. I believe success of this suit will vastly improve this sport by allowing the teams to innovate. NASCAR is vertically integrated which can be illegal under Antitrust law so I believe they can win.

@bobbrown5365 ай бұрын
They also aren't real because they were gifted by nascar to help the teams. Pretending nascar OWES them more is silly. If teams wanted to overpay to buy a charter another got for free. That's their choice. They were cheap only 2 yrs ago. Let's rescind the current charters and let the teams buy them from nascar for a share of the pie if they want more
@jflan85365 ай бұрын
Herman - Should NASCAR be able to renegotiate with the Charter holders and give them less money if NASCAR makes in less money? What everyone is missing is the impact to fans. I have screamed this, NASCAR is the best bang for the buck to the fans. For a NASCAR event you can spend $50 and get a full day of entertainment amongst a great crowd of people. If NASCAR goes down the path that Hamlin and others want, the cost gets passed to the consumer and like in the NFL...its cost $500 to go to a game.
@sagethevvitch5 ай бұрын
Okay, let them charge $500 per ticket. You know what will happen? No one will come...and they'll make tickets cheap again. NASCAR ain't hurting for money. The drivers and teams deserve a big cut.

A charter deal where Teams and NASCAR share Car #s, NASCAR & Teams share sponsors in money only not in image. We should go back to the days where every car has a few of the same sponsor logos on every car. Bring back Pepsi and throw Pepsi or Coke on every car. Stuff like that. Share the revenue and share the power. Create a balance system where NASCAR agrees to pay the basic costs for teams as long as they make their sponsorship amount/quota/revenue. This would cause teams to go after even more sponsorship and could bring more money into the sport. This all starts with getting a main sponsor for the cup series again. Look to Walmart, Microsoft, or NVIDIA even.
@lloydbarnes78475 ай бұрын
Longtime NASCAR fan and I know that the France family is making a killing ok, it’s no secret. NASCAR needs to get this new deal correct and share profits with the teams. Yes everyone could be replaced, teams, drivers etc. Fans pay to see a Quality product with the best of the best on the track each week. Fans won’t pay for anything less. It’s been tried in the past and it failed. I enjoy NASCAR as a sport, but that’s all it is.

That statement of asking NASCAR to "cover their costs" makes no sense. What costs? The overspending on engineering that the teams are doing? The travel costs? The teams are already set to get significantly more than they had been receiving after the new TV deal. How about the teams accept a spending cap that is reasonable. NASCAR has already placed rules limiting the number of traveling crew members and cut practices in order to help cut expenses. Part of the problem is that teams need to look into the mirror on how they spend.

I thought the new cars were supposed to save the team's money but it sounds like it's not
@joelcheek34945 ай бұрын
The new cars simply provide NASCAR with cars to race in case the teams decide to leave. Then anyone can come in, buy a car, and race. The horsepower limits are intended to make it viable to run a third part spec engine in case the manufacturers leave. NASCAR has positioned themselves over the past ten years to strip the RTA of any real leverage. If a team leaves, it will be relatively easy to replace them with today's car and engine package.

Easier said than done. What do the teams tell their staff? “Sorry folks, no paychecks for a few weeks” Most teams don’t have the reserve cash to bankroll payroll for several weeks. Especially if they don’t run races they have sponsors lined up for.
